how's your studying going guys? are you freaking out? burned out?

this is our stress relief thread....or our group anxiety thread, whatever..... 😀

for those of you that have no idea what the mcat random threads are about, check out molly's explanation:

MollyMalone said:
It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO POST HERE, you're welcome to jump in at anytime. Here's the final tally from part 7:

The church I have been wanting to start going to (yes, I realize I have lived here for several months now 😳 ) just started a Saturday night service!

I 😍 Saturday night services!!

Hi Arsenic!! How's it going?

That's pretty sweet, working with the dept head and only having a 4 hour call!! 😀

Sounds from your posts lately like you are leaning towards EM instead of surgery (a few months ago I had the impression you were leaning towards surgery). Is that right? EM sounds really cool.

I could never ever do gen surg because of the lifestyle. The shift work aspect of EM is really appealing, even though I know you still work a ton of hours. A good friend of mine who's an M4 now was gung-ho g surg and at the last minute she decided to do peds with the intention of doing peds cards because they do cool interventional procedures and stuff.

i've just been thinking more about it. i've been hearing some bad things about gen surg and how boring it gets after a while, the shiftwork in EM is great and I love how laid back most EM folks are. the fact that when you're off you're off and have no pager to deal with is great. the other option is IM but i'm way too ADD to do 4 hour medicine rounds every morning for the rest of my life.

EM just seems like it fits be better but i'll know for sure in feb/march after my surgical rotation. for now i'm happy because i get to work close with the director of the emergency department psych services which would be a great rec letter for EM if thats what i want to do.

You guys! I just looked outside and there are 29 geese in my pond!!!!! 😀 Like, the entire surface of the pond is covered with geese! I have never seen anything like it!

That's cool. 🙂 I am sorry to hear about the thrush, beary. That sounds kind of nasty, actually. I have to tell you that skin diseases of any type seriously gross me out. :barf: Derm is definitely not in my future.

Mush, I feel for you. I get migraines sometimes too. Do you have something that triggers them? The only known trigger for me is perfume, incense, that kind of thing. I can't go into stores where they burn incense, I can't wear perfume myself ever, and god forbid I ever get trapped in an elevator with a woman who was bathing in it....it's happened before. :scared:

hey penguin! good luck with orgo. i start my new psych schedule today, 6PM-10PM. normally i'd have weekends off but its one of my calls tonight. ha, call is usually 8am-3/4pm but the department head told me to just show up at 6 tonight since thats when he was gonna be there. 😀

night shift. see you totally worked it out--otherwise you'd be stuck in outpatient, eh?

It's totally nasty. I don't have it on my skin - it's in my mouth and throat. So it hurts when I swallow or eat, and the most disgusting thing of all is that it is bleeding - just a tiny little bit, but :barf: .

This happened a few weeks ago and they gave me nystatin swish and swallow which cleared it right up. I will get some today. 👍

the beauty of it all sweetie is that EM psych counts as my outpatient requirement. 😀

thats why i was able to switch into it from the clinics they originally had me scheduled for.

Wow, that's cute! That little keyboard made me laugh though.

Anybody here planning on getting Vista when it comes out? I think I will on my desktop, just because I am a huge dork.

i dont know, depends on cost. i heard vista has a much nicer look than XP but they had to dump some of its features in order to get it out in time. they origically had this new radical file storing system planned for it but had to bump that to the next project since it would have put vista way behind schedule.

So is that not considered the purview of derm? Thrush is in the derm chapter of our diagnosis book. The pics are way gross. 🙁 I guess you got it b/c of the antibiotics? Are you still on them?

i bet we'll be able to get it from school for a reasonable price. i know my school sells a lot of the microsoft software dirt cheap.

I guess it is derm. I didn't think about it that way. It's totally disgusting.

Yeah, because of the antibiotics. Still on them. Keep adding more. 🙁

Interesting new invention:

Hug shirt

I read about it in Time magazine's Best Inventions (very interesting Time by the way. Newsweek was good this week too!)

So, it says in this article that research says that people do best if they're touched 70 times/day!!!!! I need to find a source on that. I'm at, oh, about 0.1.

I would not want people touching me that much. 👎 You have to understand, I don't even like shaking hands with people. People's hands are filthy.

use the old sit on your hand until it falls asleep trick... then it feels like someone else is touching you  😉

at least when an actual person is going to hug you, you can see it coming. but with this shirt it's pretty random--like you could be going to the bathroom and getting hugged. probably rather strange. but definitely an interesting idea!

omg i'm having a flashback to studying for my final. there's some sort of disease where one of the key symptoms is "inappropriate self hugging" i showed this to my friends at 2 in the morning and we were laughing our asses off trying to demonstrate what this would look like.

There are germs everywhere....

opening doors, using public transportation/facilities, even just sitting in a desk you don't know who was in before you!

You have to be exposed to germs to keep from getting too sick.

Bring on the hugs, unless they have a cold!

but im hanging on, tomorrow i have to pick up application forms and fill them out, i still have to work on my PS

Well I'm not exactly sure, I don't get them too often but for some reason last night it was horrible. YOu are right that certain scents I've figured have triggered bad headaches and nausea but last night I had a headache but had a beer and next thing i know BAM. It was absolutely horrible. I feel bad for thsoe that get it often. I was so close to crying b/c I just wanted to go to bed.

talk to your PCP about imitrex or sumatriptan, same thing. its supposedly really expensive but we use to have samples and give it to people at the family med office i was at. all my migraine pts loved it.

*GASP* *comes up for air*

holy crap I'm busy today. 🙁

uh oh *hides*

😕

For the kick! For the loss! It was more for Will's benefit (UF 17, SC 16) than you Randames. Though jlw did an excellent job translating.

Man, I so need to get out of these dorms.

thank you. and yes. yes, you do.

Inappropriate self hugging???!!!! How strange. I do not think I ever learned about this disease.

Heh, I think Beary actually liked it. She wants a 10 season anniversary of Florida-Nebraksa. 😛

NFL FTMFW! TTYL!

I did like it. A 10th season anniversary rematch would be fun. 😀

What is FTMFW? I need to learn all this lingo. When I play battlegrounds in WoW, people are always throwing out things like that and I have no idea what they are talking about.

I totally hear you. I've only had 3-4 migraines in my life and each of them literally put me in bed for a whole day. I can't imagine getting them frequently.

So I just talked to my brother. They don't have any girl names narrowed down yet, but if their baby is a boy they plan on continuing my family tradition of having Raymond in the name - in this case, would be the middle name. Their two choices of names are:

Evan Raymond 😀 👍
Charles Raymond 😕

No offense to anybody named Charles out there. He then went on to tell me how they would call him Chuckie. 😕 Reminds me of that horror movie!

hey all! long time no post.

i am so stinkin excited bout this michigan v. osu thing. i can't believe it. i predicted it in late september/early october and now it's a reality! only other undefeated is boise state--how's that for crazy.

and boy, a&m has been one heartbreak after another this year.

hope you feel better soon beary. i went for a drive/short walk today. i really need to be in a sunshine-y place. i'm totally with the hug thing. they always help.
