:laugh: :laugh: I remember when I was in determinative bacteriology. Almost all the cases sounded the same with the exception of one small thing that would make each one differ. But most all of them had symptoms that are synonymous with many of the flu symptoms. So def. hear ya on that one. I think it seems its probably aftermath of whatever infection you had before.

I know there are congrats being shared, but I have not read far enough back to know what for...so congrats to anyone who wants or deserves it.

I have 3 exams today. Ugh. One down...2 to go. Two of them are make-ups for last week when I was hacking up a lung. So, I am waiting for the prof to show up so we can get started. Another one at 12:30. Wish me luck!

Edit: I just got back my biochem grade. I did better than my other tests so never underestimate the effect of being in a good mood on your grades 🙂 but I did notice this one guy writing down the statistics for the test (like the average, number of As, etc). Do you guys do this? 😕 I don't. I know this guy is super competitive so maybe that's why.

I wrote the stats down for my last test in Physics. Like I posted before I mixed up some momentum problems with energy and ended up with a C. The professor curves so it's good to know where I stand versus the rest of the class. Although now I need to get B's to pull off a B in the class 🙁

i don't usually do it, but tons of my classmates did it all the time.

I hear ya, G. It was in the 40s here lastnight. I'm still cold. I was doubting whether I'd make it through the night. At least I'm driving 200 miles south to Coral Springs for Thanksgiving and it's warmer down there. 😀

You are from Coral Springs??????? Wow that's where my best friend is from. I went and visited her a week before labor day weekend. It was a blast!!!!!

But I hated driving for 4 hours. But it was soooooooo windy there compared to in land area of Tampa.

Hehe, no, I'm going to my friend's place in Coral Springs. He got out of classes lastnight at UF and stayed here. We're leaving I think around 5PM when traffic is crazy (I know, dumb move). We're taking I-95 from Cape Kennedy to Royal Palm Blvd. I live East enough in Orlando to just take I-95 instead of the Turnpike. 😀

No freaking. One bad grade isn't what you should be concentrating on. Concentrate on the material. You never know about curves. Go and talk to the teacher. One B won't kill you (physics was the biggest joke ever, the profs I had were horrible!!! For physics I, the other professor gave all the test questions to the class which is why they did better on the exams 🙁 ) I was just happy to get them over with and tried my hardest to study and learn the material. That's all anyone can ask of you. :luck:

Thanks, Mush. I've got several B's in my academic career, but I've been shooting for A's in my post-bac. Oh well. Just going to focus on the next exam for now 😳

Yay! I finished my final o. chem experiment (identification of two unknowns) and I got them both right. 😀

I still have to go back next week to check out and the week after for a final exam, though. 😡

Normally I don't do that, but in this case I was really worried. But the class average is pretty low - like 50 something.

Yeah - I kinda wish I had taken Ochem with general Chem. Ochem seems to explain a lot to me!

Next week I have to do a make up lab and finish my last lab and check out. *sigh* I'll be glad ochem I is over, now onto ochem II 😡

Next semester I'm pretty much killing myself (again) I'm taking a class over winter break that is 9 days (3 credits) "Survey of Human Diseases" - its an general education biology class (that will help boost my science GPA! 🙂 ) and its suppsoed to be interesting. Since I've just had medical micro, and I love micro, this shouldn't be too bad (i hope).

Then next semester I only have classes on Tues, Wed, and Thurs but I'm taking

Ochem II - 5 credits
Immunology - 4 credits
virology - 3 credits
biochemistry - 4 credits * THIS WILL BE THE HARDEST CLASS I'VE EVER HAD!!!! (Apparently this class has been taken by many med students who claim they learned more in this class than in med school as wellas these tests are most representative of med school tests ... 🙁 And its senior level so she ain't no joke - I have her right now)
online class "Children and Trauma" - 1 credit

And I'm studying for the MCAT. Uh yeah ... 🙄


Why do we torture ourselves as premeds? WHY!!!!!!!!?!?!?!?!!?

I have been getting slammed with autopsies lately. When we have this many autopsies, the PAs (pathology assistants) are supposed to gross in our placentas. Today they basically just refused. So I still have to finish autopsies, write reports, dictate them, preview old autopsies and placentas, and then GROSS IN SIX MORE PLACENTAS!!! +pissed+

I just can't wait to get out of here tomorrow. I really want to get out of here early in the day if at all humanly possible. Pray I don't get any autopsies in the late morning. (1 pm is our cutoff, so if I don't have any by then I'm good to go. 🙂 )

You guys, I really really really am not a fan of my job. I cannot overstate this. Every year I think things will get better and they never really do. But, I know that nobody loves their job - that's why we get paid to do it! So we can eat and do other things that we like. Tell me about jobs you have had that you liked or hated. I have never done anything else so don't know what to do. 🙁

I sent it either Thursday or Friday last week so hopefully you'll get it today. 🙂 I have no idea how long things take to get to MI.

And crummy jobs - I spent 4 months working as a biostatistician for the state health department here. Those were the most boring 4 months of my life. I spent all day looking at the clock wondering when I would get to go home. The people I worked with were all great, it was just soooooo DULL!!!! I managed databases of birth and death records.

I hated my job and now I'm exploring medicine. 😀 I can relate oxeye, my job at the mortgage company was so not challenging and they were working on ways to "automate" it because they realized that if you fit certain criteria they could make it work (I didn't do normal loans, I did "special" loans that aren't your average borrowers ... but even then there were ways to make them fit in a certain "box").

I gave up a fast-track executive career in banking before that because even though I loved the company, I didn't like what I was doing and couldn't see myself happy working the amount of hours I was working and maxing out at like $75K. I had potential there but it wasn't my dream. I like the social aspect of banking/lending but not my position as a analyst (although you have learn somewhere, that I understand, I worked my way up from a teller). I tried to get in an area where a friend was but there was no openings. I tried to get into the stock market side of the bank but no doors opened. I felt like I was trapped and I saw an out (and 10K more a year) and took it.

Through both those jobs I considered nursing because I thought I would never get into medical school. My grades sucked. As you can see by my join date, I looked into it as soon as I graduated and was unhappy. But the one thing I do know is the grass is never greener on the other side. I know that although medicine won't make me completely happy, I have never been happier on this trek. The research I'm learning (and learning HOW to do research) is invaluable. The body is an endless possibility of options - and you have to keep remembering why you enjoyed the small things in the first place. There are so many interesting aspects of medicine beary. You can totally subspecialize in pathology and do so much with your degree. Its just the learning process that sometimes sucks. After your training though, its all about doing what YOU want to do. Maybe that high tech SEM playing with cilia all day 😉

You have had an amazing journey and will continue to learn on the eternally changing path you are on. You hit forks in the road, maybe make a wrong turn, hit some roadblocks, but with everything you've accomplished, you have like "some" portions, but not all. As with every job, there are little things that keep you there. Some its money, some it social interaction, some its the fact they get to play with a stapler each day. Everyone is different, everyone's journey is also special 😍

My 15 month old just called 911. 😳

I turned my back for less than a minute to make the other one a snack, when I hear the speakerphone dialing (I'd left the phone next to the computer which she can climb up to). I figured it would be a "this call cannot be completed" message, so I took the phone away from the baby and turned it off. A few seconds later I get a call back, "This is 911, do you have an emergency?" Ummmm no! I explained what had just happened and she was all snotty with me "Keep her away from the phone in the future!"

Guess I can't leave the phone unattended for even a minute now. I checked the redial and sure enough it was "91111111111111111"
