how's your studying going guys? are you freaking out? burned out?

this is our stress relief thread....or our group anxiety thread, whatever..... 😀

for those of you that have no idea what the mcat random threads are about, check out molly's explanation:

MollyMalone said:
It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO POST HERE, you're welcome to jump in at anytime. Here's the final tally from part 7:

Yes, Merry Christmas Eve! 😀

And, I FINALLY got my epic mount!!! I got a black war wolf. I tried to take a screenshot but it's not working. But it is SO fast and looks really cool. Was worth all that work. 🙂

I'm going to go to bed soon and am totally trying to deny the fact that I am going back to work so soon. 🙁 I'm really going to enjoy tomorrow with my family.

Congrats Beary!!

BTW, I'm 1/2 way through the gunslinger. I got pretty into it last night which it why I never checked in with you fine people. My mom made a fire so I was curled up with good coffee reading by the fire. Most excellent break 👍

My impressions so far: I always found his writing style slow going and frustrating. I think sometimes I reaches too far into flowery writing instead of just sticking at what he's good at: being a truly great story-teller. The points where he seems to go, "oooo I'll use a big word here." Just seems to break up the flow of the prose more than help illustrate a point. But I'm a prose snob

I have to admit the story is interesting, not great but interesting. He puts a new spin on the old archetypes but I do hate his tendency to use sexuality as a crutch for his inability to make the story progress. Because of that, even though the individual elements are very deep and well thought out, the whole plot jumps around like a House of Pain song (considering I loved the Sound and the Fury, you know it's pretty bad for me to point this out as a weakness).

But I'm going to read the whole series and here's why: The Gunslinger has got to be the most interesting, original character I've read in awhile. But I'm biased; I kind of have this love affair for the anti-hero in literature. And granted Michael Moorcock did it first and better (Elric series), the Gunslinger is still a pretty intriguing character.

I think that's true for alot of King's writing... I've read 4 past midnight (? I think that's the title) and The Stand and I always felt his characters and to a less extent his plot were his strong suit while his prose was always forced. I wish a writer whose prose I liked better would pick up the gunslinger's character.

Awww looks like I missed a busy night last night!!

It's not that good coffee, a fire and a book beat out you guys but just that the activation energy of me getting up from that situation to check SDN is just too high.

Plus Twin's declaration that he's only giving conventional gifts this year would have been enough to ruin my night. 🙁

You stuff stockings before Christmas? I let "Santa" do it.

(Don't worry, I am sure you won't be the only wife whose stocking is empty.)
Well its almost christmas and he won't be home until tonight 🙂 we'll see if he though of stockings 😉

coroner called 🙁

I'm not a literary critiquer at all. I just read for enjoyment and I suck at english type stuff, but I do have to agree with your views on King. Thinking back to some of his items I've read you are right. I have read the stand and one other (yeah that left an impression that I can even remember teh name 😛 ) and from what I remember ... what you said rings true.

Oh and merry christmas eve kids! 🙂 Hubby home tonight.

Sorry about working beary 🙁

This is NOT news, bratboy 😉

I'm online apartment shopping! There are so many choices! Just not many in my price range.

My mom has this idea: Right now she's paying 125 a month to store all her crap while she is living with my grandmother. She said she'd give that to me if I could find a nice 2 bedroom (which may be easier than a nice 1 bdrm) just to store her stuff in the extra bedroom (and maybe I'll find a roomie later on and we have insta furniture for her). But I don't know if this is a good idea.

I know you guys know nothing about housing in Houston 😉 I'm just venting.

Oh no we do have housing... but usually it's constructed of tumbleweeds which as you all know are our only natural resource.

Well that and BBQ

Woohoo, I'm excited you'll read the whole series! I'm still only on the fifth one (I read for 10-20 min every night in bed before falling asleep). I agree that the gunslinger is a very interesting character.

Each of the books is pretty different too. I didn't like the second one very much, and the fourth one is VERY different than the others. The fifth one is awesome.
