And now for part 22 ......
USA or UAB? UAB is the very research oriented one. It's not top-tier but University of South Alabama is a very research-oriented program. Smaller class sizes, but the Md-PhD program takes a considerable # of OOS students.
Another bonus - the school lets you qualify for in-state tuition and establish residency quickly (they did when i was working on my PhD there). And it's in a great area.
Like I said, it's not top-tier, but it's still a good program and worth considering if you're interested in research.
which school is usa? 😕USA or UAB? UAB is the very research oriented one.
which school is usa? 😕
walking around is what I do all the time because I'm too cheap to spend 2 bucks on public transportation sometimes. I've never taken the ferry before but all my SI friends take it all the time.docfunk, i'm too lazy to find your post replying to mine yesterday, but when i was in nyc on saturday/sunday, i pretty much walked around, sweated my butt off, and also (randomly) took the free ferry over to staten island and right back again.
😳USA - South Alabama (mobile). UAB - Alabama (birmingham).
Now THOSE two I can comment on.. both on my list 👍
No, these schools are actually in the minority, esp. if you did not major in science or have graduated already - you have more leeway with letters. I think Albany is 2 sciences for science majors, but 1 science and 1 letter in the major for non-science majors, for example.i thought they all required 2 science letters
I'm pretty sure it's Albany - I remember it was one of the less competitive NY schools.albany med really?
GAH! and i ran all over trying to get that second science letter! 😡
I got 1 science, 1 former prof in humanities (he's not a prof anymore), and 1 coming up from a friend/former employer. I'm trying to get my old major prof's e-mail address to request one from her - she left my school the same year I graduated to go pursue a PhD elsewhere, and I never got her e-mail address back then.darnit. now i have two science and a pending non-science (procrastination lost that one i'm afraid)
I took a brutal orgo class where an 80 got you an A.BTW, I don't know what the hell I was thinking - I made a friend do some calculations for me yesterday, and given my current average in Orgo, I could've gotten 80.1% on the final and STILL ended up with an A. Should've just written on Wednesday....oh well. That figure suggested I get 75% on the lab reports, which I'm sure I will, but still, better be safe than sorry.
The good thing about Canadian grading schemes is that it's much easier to get an A - 85% or more is an A.
Hey Randomites in or through med school: What lender did you use?
I'm leaning towards THE because it seems like they have better customer service and Sallie Mae is the devil incarnate here to suck the souls out of innocent med students (or at least what was left after the MCAT).
Yeah, that's not a curve thing though, that's the actual university grading scheme around here.I took a brutal orgo class where an 80 got you an A.
😳
sorry for the lack of knowledge I have about the south. It's like another world for me. 🙂
Already got some useless advice about how I should've had enough science professors to have 2 letters and how I should "go to their office" to ask for one (yeah, I've graduated already and live halfway across the continent, lol). Ahhhh, SDN.tell me how that goes... PA scares me

Yeah - USA. It's a well-kept secret IMO.
OK guys, I'm gonna have to fulfill my promise regarding locking myself up in the library and working on orgo lab reports now.Gonna head to campus, write 2 reports, then check in on here again before I go and write 2 more.

And we want it to stay that way through our app cycle, right meg? 😉
PA =
Think I'll just go from here to A 🙂
👍
I really do love that school and Mobile.
Is it because it's italian? *shrug*why is bologna spelled with a G and an A? this has always bothered me. which is why i pronounce it BO-LOG-NUH
why does it not surprise me that you were the first one to capitalize on this opening? 🙄 😉
😆 😆 😆
PW, this made my morning. Really did make me laugh out loud.![]()
WTG! I'm getting back on track starting tomorrow. I knew trying to eat well and work out during the MCAT period was going to be trouble, so I decided to wait.
So, I've got a regmine all lined up and ready to start tomorrow. I literally have 65 pounds to lose to get back to my weight when I started dating my husband, and would ideally like to lose about 80 pounds. This sounds like a lot, but to be honest with myself, I really porked up these first 2 years of marriage due to both stress and just having too much fun and not working out 😉
*sigh* it always catches up to you!
Just don't get on the scale if you are relatively new to workouts. You're gonna be gaining lots of muscle. At a certain point, I found myself 20 lbs heavier, but still the same size, because I had been lifting weights so much and loading up on protein. People FLIP when I tell them how much I weigh - they always underestimate me by 25-30 lbs. At this point, my muscle gain has stabilized enough for me to be able to refer to the scale again, but that's only because I started eating less protein and more carbs and because I've cut down on my weight workouts - I'm just maintaining the muscle mass now. If you're just starting, the scale can be a source of frustration. This sounds like me Meg. Ugh. Problem is, I HAVE been working out and it has done nothing but negative things to me. I HATE THE SCALE. It is a joke now. WTF?? Are my clothes fitting better? 75% of the time, yes. The other 25...WTF? AGGH!
PA is for adrenaline junkies.PA =
Think I'll just go from here to A 🙂
Seriously, the best people to ask are the regulars here, then any advisor/mod/admin
and then a few other random people with SDN cred
