i'm working on a scarf for my mom with some neat varigated (sp?) yarn. i'm also working on a pair of socks that already look a bit too small. Oh well...gotta try it once to get the hang of it, right? 🙂

I admire the ability of you guys to knit so well. My aunt knits purses and stiches purses together in India. I swear I saw a few of them and they looked almost like the professional ones I've bought here.

I haven't read the blog, actually - just found a link to the page with the scarf pattern on a knitting forum and bookmarked it.

I don't know how to knit socks....I generally don't like working with very fine yarns and tiny needles, and to be honest, I don't enjoy wearing knitted socks, either. I really want to learn Fair Isle, though, but with the humongous shawl that's been in the works since December and this scarf, I think I'm too busy now.

It's time for the nightly application essay blast!:meanie: I'm done with 5 of Queen's Univ's 6 essays, and tonight I'm tackling the most annoying one - "why do you want to be a physician." It's a PITA, but I do realize that it's a high-yield question that I'm likely to see on a lot of US secondaries, so I might as well take care of it now to make life easier once my AMCAS is verified. I finished my Calgary essay yesterday, and my UWO essay has been done for a while. Now I just have to do that Queen's' essay and get to work on U of Alberta, and my Canadian apps will be all done.👍 I must say, I do like the fact that Canadian schools are non-rolling....less pressure. And the 4-6 months of quiet in between submission and the rejections/invites to interviews will probably be good for focusing on the US apps, so it all works nicely together.

Thanks! I'm done with Queens, although I cheated and did use a few exact same expressions as in my AMCAS PS...so I probably wouldn't be able to copy/paste it to the US secondaries, but a few minor edits should take care of that.

Feels good! Funny thing is, I don't stand a chance of getting interviewed at Queen's based on last year's cut-offs (GPA of 3.78 vs mine of 3.767). So I'm writing these 6 essays with the hope of the cut-offs going down, since the adcom has been making unofficial statements of wanting to interview more applicants. And I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the decrease of the double cohort effect in this Ontario cycle. For those who don't know (probably everyone here :laugh:) Ontario recently abolished the 13th grade in high school and so the number of both university and medical school applicants jumped sharply - nearly doubling - which resulted in a major jump in cut-offs. I think it was in 2005 that Queens' cut-offs were 3.53...😱

*sniff* thanks to MCAT study, I can't read it at ALL right now. to make matters worse, my mom went ahead and bought it for me and will send it to me for my bday (early present) as soon as the MCAT is over. so I can't even go buy a copy without feeling guilty since I know one's coming. 🙁

Got the U Conn secondary. The e-mail says the fee is $85, but the app itself says it's $75.😕 I wanted to make sure I don't overpay, so I shot them an e-mail.

Honestly, I'm rather amused by how many mistakes there seem to be on applications...I just printed some reference letter forms yesterday from another school that ask my writers to describe my suitability for the class entering in Fall 2007.🙄

Oh CRAP!!!! I got my physics assignment back today, and apparently I had forgotten to write out a solution for one problem!😱 The entire assignment is marked in red and then I have an A at the end. I was only 1.5% away from an A+, so I bet if I had not forgotten to write in that solution (I did, however, have trouble with it), I could have gotten an A+!


And then he wrote "can't read your handwriting" on every page....well, what can I do, the formulas are too advanced for Word and I have no clue how to create PDF docs.🙄

In other news, another finished practice FL - only had time to grade PS, but it was 1 question from a 9!! :hardy:

Good luck with the final - I've got a physics midterm in a week. Haven't started studying for it yet, I want to get unit 4 out of the way - the whole class is just 6 units, so being 67% through will make me feel that much better.😛 I REALLY just want physics to be over!

Just got back from boxing....he was blowing sugar up my @$$ again.:laugh: "You've got decent shoulders, I know you can hold your arms out for at least 10 minutes...." "Your arms are very muscular, no need to lift heavy anymore..." "Amazing speed..." "Your jab is good..." "Great round!" "Look at you, 2 weeks ago you couldn't do 45 push-ups and now you're doing 75...":laugh: Tee hee. *blush*

He'll be gone Wednesday 🙁 but the other girl and I are going to pair up and make each other work.:meanie: I've also invented a bunch of tricks today and I gotta practice them for next Monday so I can blow him away with my mad skillz.:meanie:

WTF!!!! I'm sitting here, it's 7:30 AM....mega-cranky, because I went to bed at 4, and couldn't sleep because of the heat, and just read a really infuriating e-mail from my father. Suddenly I hear someone calling "hello, hello" from the back. I come to the back, and there's this woman standing in my KITCHEN!😱 I had opened the backdoor as soon as I woke up b/c I wanted to let some cool air in. So I'm like, "uh, wtf are you doing in my kitchen!?" She's like, "is this the basement?" I'm like, "um, this is the first floor!!!!!" (OBVIOUSLY....) She's like, "oh, he told me the basement door was open, so just to come in..." I'm like, duh, you have to actually walk UP several steps to get into my apartment....does that strike you as a basement? So I'm all ticked (note the time!!! and coming INTO the apartment!? WTF?) and show her where the basement is. So I go back to the living room...


5 mins later....she's calling me out again!!!!😡 I come out there and she's waiting at my door, and starts asking me all this crap: "Do you have a landline? Do you have a washing machine here? Where's the laundromat?" I was like, "LADY, you know, I'm tired, why don't you just call the landlord!?" She's all like, "Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry!"

I had to freaking slam the door shut....seriously, wtf is wrong with you! I was pretty obviously upset when she did it the first time, I can't believe she had the nerve to do it again!😱 I was just disturbed! What makes people think it's alright to come into random people's houses at this time of day and pester them with questions?
