Annnd I finished my physics homework and lab, made great progress on my chemistry Ch 2 study guide (6 questions left I do believe) and overall have a great start to weekend homework. Imagine, I may actually get a weekend. 👍

Man, yeah, it looks rough up there. By all means, stay in as much as possible and dont be like the fool on the national news that drove right into a flooded highway and almost drowned because "he'd been traveling that road for years, it had always been there"... Wow. Yeah, our bridge had always been there too, but I wouldn't try to cross biloxi bay that way right now....
😆Are you serious, did he drive onto I-90? Or are you just giving that as an example? 😆

It's raining here, too, which is like unthinkable, because this place is basically a desert. We even have cacti growing here! Bet you didn't know there were cacti in Canada!

Beary - I'm so sorry about your pet. It's always very hard to let go when you've grown so close. Our family dog that we've had since I was in 3rd grade had to be put to sleep during the exams of my Sophomore year of college. That was a really tough week for me.

On another note - why am I awake at 2:35 am when I have to get up at 7:30 am? Hooray for insomnia!

school has been in session for one week and i can do nothing but think about what my score might be

Grocery wasn't too bad.. came home and took a nap (being "lazy" while I could). I did a chem lab... have another 2 hours or so of homework for the whole weekend so that's not too bad at all. Tonight is our annual scholar dinner for the fullpaid tuition kids at Carey.. we have one every year for the new ones.. and since I work in admissions, I get roped into hosting this shindig every year. It's not so bad, just get up and emcee about how great these kids are and get great (catered) free food.. it's filet mignon tonight. Woohoo.

God, I hate those "why our school" questions. Seriously, the reason I apply somewhere is usually because I'm somewhat competitive there and/or would enjoy living/practicing in that location because I either like the area or have friends/relatives there....that's all!

sorry about your dog beary 🙁

i just got back from a cruise and i'm dreading to go back to work 👎

so i received a thin envelope smail from upstate today
I thought it was a rejection but instead it read

"this is to inform you that your application is now complete"

😳

You'd think they'd start utilizing e-mail by now....

*still cranky that she needs to mail the signature page and fee instead of just doing everything online*

I churned out 2 secondaries today, 4 essays total, so I think it's time for a break.

I also decided not to return any more secondaries from NYC schools (except AECOM), simply because I cannot fathom ever living there - and I'm below their averages, anyway, so it's not like I'm passing on some amazing chances. I think I'll probably spend part of the $300 I saved there on Mayo instead. Also a major reach, but at least I'm actually interested in the school and its location.

the banquet was great... stil figting a sore throat. afraid I'm getting sick. tomorrow I'm going to eat and see "becoming jane" with my best friend/sister. very excited about that.
well off to finish silence of the lambs and hit the bed.

Hey Meg - we had the speech evaluation today. She has a 25% speech delay but is fine in all other areas. They said normally she wouldn't qualify for services but they are going to do it anyway because they don't like the fact that she has no two word phrases.

So I'll let you know how that goes. He's going to call next week to get things all set up. How long do they usually work with kids her age?

So I need to come up with a topic for a behavioral analysis project in my human behavior course. Any ideas? Drinking more water, exercising more, eating less junk food were ideas given in class but I want to do something a little more creative and fun.

I'm happy to have my first week of classes under my belt. I'm relaxing and catching up on the board tonight but tomorrow and Sunday I'm going to have a marathon study session. 😱

Stay healthy! I've been sick for the past three weeks and it sucks. I have not felt like myself at all.

That's good news about the 25%. I often opt-in for services in similar situations, but it usually takes about 3-4 months for kids like her to get "over the hump".

Of course, I have to give you the typical disclaimer that all kids are different, but if they see her weekly and you guys work hard at home, 3-4 months should yield a good improvement.

I would start working with phrases relating to things she "asks" for everyday.

For example, if she comes to you and says "juice" or "milk", try to get her to imitate "I-want-juice-please" - word by word if you have to, and be rather strict about her using "I want...please" for things she asks for.

It will a)give you something to work on until therapy starts, b) get her in the habit of using that phrase for wants/needs and c) expose her to simple sentence structure. If she picks that up quickly, move on to another phrase type.

Good luck!

i have a friend that would love that movie!! ((actually she would like silence of the lambs as well--lol). feel better🙂

Yeah, I'm sure it's all the new germs/new people/new classes.

Glad the little one's eval wasn't that bad.. I'm sure they'll do some great work with her and she'll be chattering like a champ in no time! 🙂

Ooh and we got the flooding today. Non related, of course, but about 4 inches in 1 1/2 hours. Went to Cracker Barrel with the best friend/sister and we got stuck there for a while... we were almost late for our movie (shameful)

Anyone who's interested - Becoming Jane is fabulous. 👍👍

Ah, yesterday and most of today was NOT my day! LOL. I think I totally bombed the physics final yesterday - he had three problems of the same type, and we had NEVER solved problems of that type before. I Googled and it looks like I at least approached them correctly, but that's about as much as I can tell. So I have a feeling that my A- is going down the drain.🙄

Then I was trying to buy this airline ticket to Minneapolis on Hotwire.com for just $450, but my credit card was blocked for use on that website because it kept getting denied for some stupid reason, and Mastercard is closed evenings...I called Orbitz because I had $650 credit with them, and since most Minneapolis flights were around $800, I figured I could snag a flight for just $200 or so cash....spent minutes on the phone with some dude in India only to find out that the cheapest one was $1600!:wow: He was like, "May I charge your credit card for $957, madam?" I was like, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

So then I'm like, ok, I think Mastercard's open Saturdays, so I'll just call tomorrow. Then I wake up today and my cellphone's dead! Nothing happens at all. I went to Telus and spent 1.5 hours there getting a new phone. Of course I had to re-sign my contract for another year (which I was fine with), but they didn't have any free phones for me - because they only give free phones to new customers, once you're already with them, they don't have to fuss over you that much. Well, I had to suck it up and pay $50 for the cheapest phone they had. Now I've lost all of my phone #s! I was able to recognize some numbers from my old bill, but only a small fraction of what I had. Most importantly, I don't have the boyfriend's number now!🙄

So then I went to have breakfast at this place at the mall and received the most horrifying service imaginable....I'm NEVER eating there again!

Anyway, just got home and finally bought a ticket to Mpls...except for they advertised a $424 flight, but once I tried to buy it, it was of course gone (despite still showing up in search results), so I had to cave in and get the $450 one. Blah! Well, at least I am finally going. I'm leaving this Wednesday, and the flights are pretty good - just 1 connection and the layovers are very short (in case you don't know, Hotwire is very cheap, but it doesn't let you see flight times and airlines until after you've paid) - however, my departure is at 6:50 AM, and I live more than 2 hours away from the airport, which means I have to leave home at like 3:30 AM....Blarg! I'm gonna see if I can recruit the man to drive me there, but I doubt he'd agree - that's way too early, and then if he drives me there, he has to pick me up, too.
