Yeah, having to know all the miniscule details does suck. If I could redo undergrad/post-bacc, I would have taken definitely taken Histology, Immunology, and Microbiology, among other things.

You know what?? You guys will be fine. Even had you taken those courses in college, there is no guarantee they would have been a severely big help to you. I've heard many of my grad school professors say they found that those who didn't have a lot of background classes actually ended up doing better then those who had background classes. I'm guessing this is because they studied harder or were taught it fresh so they saw it from only a single perspective rather then multiple perspectives.

At our school, histo is sadly only taught every 2 years once a year. The professor doesn't make it that super challenging and the lab is even less challenging so I don't know how much it helps prepare students for med school. Some schools do have a good comprehensive course for it but in many Fl. schools including major schools like UF they don't even offer the course. And Micro, as a former micro major and someone now taking a med micro course I can tell you that general micro will do nothing for you.

Many micro courses in undergrad don't teach medical micro they teach micro from a general perspective that includes all microbes including the environmental ones that make our geological cycles go forward. The only courses that were quite related to medicine were determinative bacteriology, medical mycology, and perhaps immunology since we had it at a graduate level. The other more general micro courses were not much of a help with med school related topics especialy general micro which was in effect one of the least medically related micro courses.

Good luck everyone.

Pwned the bio test this morning (someone remind me WHY i'm having to take general bio??). If I would've paid a little more attention, or stretched it out to 20 mins or so, I could've gotten a 100, but I'll take my A+ and run with it.

Don't wanna go to physics today. It'd be fine if it wasn't for the ex. Grrr. Let that little ******* try to ask me about mcat.:meanie:

I got my first non-bad news from med schools.
I'm apparently in a "favorable review" pool in MCW. 👍

Same here! Hopefully I can pull off an A- in physics, then I'll e-mail them an update...otherwise, I'll be waiting till my midterms are written.

Hey folks!

I hated histology too, so there is still hope for you all. 😉

Wish I could be there to help you with your histology!

I enjoy looking at all these slides, just not being tested on them. Maybe instead of flying you out, we could just set up a webcam conference during my next exam. 😉

Hope things are good with you and the blood bank up north!

I forgot it was almost time for update letters... wow.. its midterms week here so I need to get on that
Oh wow, mine don't start until like a month/month-and-a-half from now as per our proposed schedule...however, I schedule my own midterms, so I can write them a bit earlier or a bit later if I want to.

we have trimester system, where our classes are ten weeks but equal to semester credit, so my new classes begin the first week of nov. Very helpful in crammin all the prereqs into one year. lol.

in other news, my micro prof sent off his lor today. one more to go.

Hmmmm, on second note, maybe you and I shouldn't get too excited - according to the Rejection thread, not a single person has been rejected yet. It seems that everybody on SDN got that letter. Blah, I don't feel that special anymore.👎

I was glad to read the line where they said they'll look at this pool based in part on the completion date, as well as stats - finally, I see some tangible benefits of applying early.

Wow, I can't believe how rusty my orgo is - and it's only been 3 months! I got an A+ in 1, but now I'm seriously struggling with the syntheses...don't remember anything! I should've taken this Orgo in the summer right after I was done with the first one.

I one upped you today by also being on a "HOLD" by one of my state schools 🙄

I can do the pirate thing. I think I have scurvy. Arrrrr!

Got any oranges?

Is it me or did my orgo prof just suck up to me?
Compound 18c is indeed hindered -- but i believe that your synthetic
proposal is superior to the answer provided in the text!

This is funny, because everybody hates her because she's so curt and mean to students all the time. How did I ever get on her good side?

Argh! I'm FREEZING!!!

And why am I up at this ridiculous hour....I have to go to the bank, but I can't force myself to go out in the cold! I'm so glad I don't work at my old job anymore...I remember my boss making me come to work at FOUR in the morning one day to count inventory in the freezing cold dark warehouse.:scared: :scared: :scared:

actually meg, acid/base was my favorite part of inorganic 🙂

There you go! You'll spend the first semester learning nomenclature and the simpler reactions, but really pay attention to the lectures on Lewis acids/bases and also understanding resonance. That was my key to doing well. Once you completely understand the basics, you don't have to memorize reactions b/c you'll already know what should happen. There are some tricky ones, of course, but you'll see!

Study extremely hard for Orgo I and it will pay off for Orgo II. I promise.
