The National Weather Service finished their study of the path of the tornado and it had 150 mph winds with a path length of 4.5 miles (basically straight across Iowa City) and was 1/3 of a mile wide. There were four other tornado touchdowns in our county alone, and others across the area.

dude those things FREAK ME OUT. at least hurricanes come with warnings.

mods see IP's next to the posts. thats how we can tell if someone is trolling and "talking" to themselves in a thread as if they were 2 or more different people. its also how we track down repeat trolls who have been banned before.

I am really Arsenic.

Thanks for asking folks! I am very fortunate that I didn't sustain any damage to my house - I was extremely close to the path of the tornado (could hear it). There is tremendous damage throughout Iowa City.

For some pictures, check out:
www.press-citizen.com
www.kcrg.com

Actually, I saw that it is the lead story on CNN and FoxNews so you could just check those out as well.

Shelters are set up on campus and the university is closed today. I actually haven't gotten to see hardly any of the damage in person because the police have blocked off most of the roads.

It is a miracle that there were not more serious injuries. The tornado really went through some very populated areas. Obviously it is the talk of the hospital today and almost everybody had damage to their house or their car. I know lots of people who were downtown and literally "hit the deck" as the tornado came through so sustained cuts, bruises, etc. Quite the night for sure. I will never forget it.

beary i'm so happy to hear that you are ok!!!

speaking of trolls, there's one annoying the crap out of me right now

Personally, I am appalled by the nature of this thread. It's just bunk! If it's not "MCAT-related" then you shouldn't be posting it in the MCAT forum where people are serious about talking about the test.

Don't worry, I'll get this thing back on the right track. Here's one of my study questions...

POP QUIZ

Quick: What is the fructose transporter in human spermatozoa and small intestine?

Answer: GLUT5

that's your bunny?! aaaaawwwww

yeah 🙂 i hope to be able to take him with me where ever i end up for med school, but who knows... i might have to leave him with my parents 🙁

Great! Here's another one focusing on recent discoveries, since the AAMC has stated it will start incorporating that heavily into the MCAT.

Quick: Which one of our favorite bisphosphates directly regulates the Akt proto-oncogene product?

Answer: Phosphatidylinositol-3,4-bisphosphate.

That last one was a little tougher than the GLUT5 question (which I consider to be of "moderate" difficulty), but it has appeared on one of my practice tests.

that is not a recent discovery. it's way past your bedtime.

Oxford Seminars: supplemental practice test #3. I can generally remember the specific tests where most of the questions I answer came from, but that one took me a minute. I would recommend taking the Oxford courses (if you are able to travel to Canada, where they're held), but only after you have already taken the more traditional courses (Exam Krackers, Princeton Review, and Kaplan), as I had at the time when I took the Oxford course. I'll be back later, but I have to go take another practice test now.

Maybe it's way past your "bed time," but I don't like to set a time for going to bed. In fact, I usually don't go to bed. Sleep is an unnecessary artifact of earlier species. As humans, we can effectively minimize the need for it through conditioning. Personally, I have reached a point where I only use about 10 hours of sleep per week. If you really want to be successful in life, you should learn to do the same.

actually consistantly sleeping less than 5 hours per night can lead to ED which probably explains why you aren't getting any

If "mommy's basement" is code for "Harvard Medical School," then yes, that is where I will be. I can't help it if I'm the most successful person I know. Why don't you try posting an MCAT practice question and actually contributing something to this forum?

Please promise that you'll be on the forum next spring so everyone can laugh at you after Harvard rejects you.

I will most certainly get into Harvard. I have 2.75 publications. Beat that.

I'm sure your mother says that's wonderful everyday. If you think you have a guaranteed spot at Harvard because of a 40+ mcat and publications you're an idiot. I have a few friends at Harvard med and I am happy to say that none of them are asses like you. Geez, I wonder how many times you were beaten up in elementary school or how much crack your mom smoked you make you this disfunctional.

I believe the word you're searching for is "dysfunctional." And I don't condone violence. Most people, other than you, recognize the importance of intelligence instead.

Oops, stupid typo- my bad. I'm guessing the reason you do not condone violence is that you would get your ass kicked if you ever tried anything. And I would bet any pacifist would make an exception to put you in your place.

I don't value the opinions of people who can only speak in terms of violence. Unless you can get a publication about it.

In case anyone is interested, the formula for the number of publications you have is:

sum[p/2^n]

where p = # of publications your name is on,
n = number of ordinal places you are away from first author (with a first-author publication having n=0)

Thus, with 2 first-author publications, 1 second-author, and 1 third-author, I have 2.75 publications.

Hello Fellow MCAT Takers,
I think it's time to get this forum back on track. Here's another MCAT practice question.

Quick: What group is involved in the monooxygenase catalytic mechanism of cyclohexane-grown Xanthobacter?

Answer: The flavoprotein prosthetic group.

Biochem. can be tricky sometimes. I hope my practice study questions are helping everyone.

Best of luck with your studies.

WTF .... there are questions like this on the MCAT? 😱

And where the hell was I supposed to learn that in Bio I and II or ochem I and II?
