I have a 3.3 GPA and I'm president of the PreOptometry Club here on campus (Univ of Utah). I have over 400 hours of community service but I want to apply before I finish my degree. I would have 120 credit hours at the time I would enter Optometry school. I plan to take the OAT in October. I have not started the application process... What is the latest that you can apply for the upcoming year (August 2005)? Do you think I have a chance of getting accepted early (without a degree) if I do well on the OAT?
If I'm too late, just let me know and I'll suck it up and finish out the degree. If you're wondering why I have so many hours it's because I did a year in the business program to get a good background in business so I can run my own Optometry office.

Thanks,
Utes

You can apply before you receive your degree. Prerequisites are meant to be finished before starting optometry school so you can apply before finishing all the necessary classes.

Schools have different timelines so there are different application deadlines. Most schools begin accepting applications in August/September and may stop around March. You need to check yourself since some schools stop accepting applications really early (in December for Berkeley).

If you are accepted without finishing a certain class, you'll most likely be given a conditional acceptance. That just means that you will need to forward the school your grade after you complete your class to make the acceptance official.

Schools may interview you without the OAT scores but they will wait until they receive your scores before they formally accept you.

Best wishes,

Rosanna
