Watched the Polar Express movie for the first time tonight; previously I'd only heard the songs when they came on my Pandora Christmas station. It was...quite weird. I liked the story I made up in my head from the few songs I knew better.

This belongs in the rant thread. I had pneumonia last year and it was the ultimate worst. I was seriously winded just walking up a flight of stairs for a month and a half. It sucked.

All I can do so far is cough, cough more, see the white light while coughing for 5 minutes, and drink things that don't taste like what they're supposed to taste like. Oh and my throat is sore. Gahhhh.

i want one!!! seriously my luck that the notebook that matches what i'm looking for is only in korea. gah. all i want is a little binder notebook to fit in my lab coat pocket so that i can take notes during rotations/insert handy cheats like drug doses/etc. i want it to have binder rings so that i can move things around as i please (curse of perfectionism) but it needs to be rather small. so far all i've found are rather expensive pocket planners/calendars and i haven't found a system that includes lined paper (or even blank paper)

You should absolutely read it!! They are my favorite books of all time 🙂 So much so that I'm a total purist and dislike the show. And I was practically in tears when I met George R.R. Martin.

But... I can't promise you won't be up all hours reading them. Especially book 3, my favorite one by far.

I would use it as motivation. Try to be disciplined and allow yourself to read a chapter after studying for X hours.

It is good to have something to look forward to besides the mythical DVM/VMD at the end of 4 years.

I'm a big fan of reading before bed. Even if it's only a chapter or two, it's a good way to unwind, get your mind off of school and in some other world for a bit, and get yourself drowsy so you can fall asleep quickly.

Yeah, that's what I'm planning on. I almost never did any pleasure reading during the school year in undergrad, since after looking at textbooks all day I really didn't want to read more things. But for whatever reason TV/Netflix alone has not been enough to help me unwind at night since starting vet school. I went out to Barnes and Noble specifically looking for good, easy reads so if I put them down for a week because I get too busy I can still pick them up again later and remember what was going on.

The ones that get me are the writers that use short chapters and/or always have suspenseful chapter endings. It's like...the literature equivalent of netflix autoplay.

this is how i study. and this is in part why i have to actively study instead of just read my notes, because there's no such thing as a comfortable position with paper notes/books. i read with a nook so thats not a problem at night fortunately

Side note: I read Shogun during 1st term, Looong book. So good. Up way too late to listen to Pasquini yelling and smell formalin in the early morning.
