And if they get super clever they will find the tiny little pills hidden in the fig newtons and eat all of the cookie around them, suck them clean, and then spit them back out at you. Lab pigs are both the best and the worst 😛
Try some gogurt!

So true! We actually ended up grinding down the tablet into powder and mixing it with peanut butter in the feed. Sucker can't pick out granules!

Area is now under "flash flood emergency". Not sure what that means exactly, but all roads going out of my street are closed. I am actually high and dry, but the bayou behind my house is still filling. Thankfully, we are almost done with the rain (I think). 15 inches fell yesterday! A boat lost control on the river and took out a bridge. My car nearly stalled in high water last night because my friend begged me to risk my life and take him home :yeahright: car is okay though.

I want to play Stardew Valley so bad...but must resist until Friday after Anesthesia exam...must...resist...
I had to google this because I have no idea what this is.
OMG Is it anything like Harvest Moon? Have you played that before? I was obsessed with that game! Now I want to play Stardew Valley too.

According to a youtuber I listen to, it's like all the good parts of Harvest Moon and none of the bad.

I always thought Harvest Moon was kind of creepy.

I first played Harvest Moon on the N64 when I was little, and was slightly traumatized when wild dogs came in the middle of the night to attack me.
Then I got older, got Harvest Moon on the PS2, and was addicted.
(I bought and downloaded Stardew Valley as soon as I got home. Time to play! :woot:)

I brought my dog back from my parent's place last weekend and I'm a little bit concerned her environmental allergies are acting up again. She's allergic to something in California and I've never been able to figure it out but it gets so bad that she'll chew all the hair off of her feet up to her carpus =/ The only solution has been to wipe her feet with chlorhex pads when she comes inside and start her on a pred regimen. I guess Hill's has some new diet (derm defense) to help combat that stuff. I feel like I should know the answer to this, but how am I supposed to determine how useful this diet actually may be? It says it has high levels of omega-3s and -6s, so does that mean I don't need to supplement with fish oils? Is this diet only better in such that it has such high levels of oil...? I asked the Hill's rep at our school but was just told the website had more information. I feel super dumb and like I should know how to seek out this information.

My associate is going to a talk on this next month. I can grill her for info when she gets back, if you'd like?

Also, apoquel is probably a better option than pred in the meantime.

I watched the little presentation at WVC about the food and it had a cheesy cartoon of skin repelling allergens while eating the special food. I guess I can't say if it works or not since no one has tried it yet, but I guess I have some doubts about a food offering protection from environmental allergies.

I second Dy - if you have never tried Apoquel, it may be the miracle you need. It doesn't work for every dog, but for some dogs it works amazingly well.

Coworker (not the one missing half a thumb) opened a jar of tissue last night. Inside was an intact uterus, uterus horns, and a pair of pretty good sized testicles. One of the oddest things any one had seen in awhile (and we get alot of odd things). I'm sure it might have given the doctor who removed it a good surprise too

Yeah, I've been thinking about Apoquel for quite awhile. Just difficult/expensive to get my hands on it at the moment.

Dy, if you wouldn't mind asking your associate, that would be awesome.

Twelve, could you expand on your thoughts? I have a difficult time understanding why a diet wouldn't possibly prevent against environmental allergies if it's something like atopy where the theory is that it's a problem with the skin barrier.

Eh, I guess I can't say it wouldn't help. I'm just expressing some doubt that some fatty acids in some food will help enough to handle severe allergies...
Way too many redundant pathways to squelch in established allergies for food to cover in my estimate as well, but I imagine there can still be some reductive benefit in some pets depending on individual.

There is also the CADI injection (https://www.zoetisus.com/products/dogs/il-31/index.aspx) that I just learned about on my Derm rotation. Long story short is that it's kind of like an injectable version of Apoquel (in that it targets IL-31). Lasts about a month and they've had it work for dogs that have either built up a tolerance to Apoquel or Apoquel never worked for them in the first place. I may consider it for my guy depending on how he flares up this year, especially since we're moving to a new area.

I'm not sure if it has the same limited distribution as Apoquel though.

Limited FDA approval or something. Only available to dermatologists (and I'm not even sure if all dermatologists).

Ahh. Didn't officially read that part. I thought I saw a conditional license mentioned somewhere. We probably have it because I think I heard that we were involved in the studies for Apoquel which is why we can get it more easily than most places. Or maybe we were involved in some of the CADI studies. I remember seeing flyers around the hospital looking for dogs with atopy for a vaccine trial during my 2nd year. Or I'm BSing entirely and mixing up where I heard things, since I can't seem to find actual papers.

For those of you using the SDN Mobile app - has anyone refreshed their convos or subscribed subs and suddenly get someone else's stuff? This has happened before but it usually goes back to my account after I click on anything. Now my app is stuck in someone's account (who hasn't been around since like 2001) and I can't get out!

By "we" I'm guessing you mean Penn. I'd be surprised if you didn't have it.

Mine just said I had no convos at all for like two hours.

Mine has done this a few times recently. Nearly got me in trouble with WW. I think the mod of that game thought I was making crap up. I thought it was my phone's fault.

Yeah, totally not disagreeing with you. I guess my question was more why "a" diet couldn't be helpful, not necessarily "this" diet. Meh, with the VIP market thing I get it for the same price as she's on now so I bought a small bag. It can't hurt anything and maybe this means no more fish oil splatter up my wall in the morning.

I'm less concerned with the app not showing me my messages (since I often use the web browser anyway when I get a notification) and more concerned with the fact I can read someone's PMs and someone could potentially be reading mine.
:scared:
@Lee...

But on the bright side...

Only 10 more weeks! 😀

I so have mixed feelings. I'm excited but beyond nervous for my internship. And the stress over finding affordable, dog friendly housing is mounting. I still sort of want this ocean front property but need someone to split it with me.

Oh gosh someone could be reading my steamy racy PMs!?

This is why you shouldn't use the app 😛
I don't use the app. I do have a 5 year old who is really good at finding and changing the settings menus on things. I had been assuming it was because she changed email notification preferences, but every now and again I would open my SDN inbox and it seemed like it was unsure if I had mail or not.

Do you have a list of the other interns? Maybe one of them would want to share...

I totally need to start using the app if there is a chance I get to read wolf PMs during a WW game... though probably I would just get an inbox full of questions about how to deal with zits during application stress.

I do. Two are moving up with fiances/husbands and the other I have been in touch with but she only wants like a 10 minute commute. Finding a place that fits what she wants has been a bit difficult to find a place that would allow all of our pets. Sadly, my 30 lb dog is over a lot of the weight limits, or they only allow two pets. There is one other person on the email list who may also be an intern that I haven't reached out to yet.

If their weight limit is like 20lbs... I would still go for it. I would be super surprised if they actually made you weigh your pet in front of them and honestly it's hard for most people to tell what a 30# vs 20# dog looks like. Both are pretty small (in my opinion). Granted that's just me saying that, you do what you think is best, I just think weight limits on dogs are somewhat arbitrary and flexible. (I mean, don't bring in your 75# GSD to a place with a 20# weight limit, just be smart about it).

Oh I'm trying it for some. A good number of the places have a 15 lb weight limit though, which is a bit more of a difference. Luckily, my guy is pretty fluffy, so I he probably can pass for the 20 lb dog range.

It totally sucks though cause I found a place that I think meets what she wants commute wise, looks newly renovated, would be like $600/month with utilities, doesn't seem to have pet restrictions and has a deck with a view of the water. No response to my message even though it says she's seen it. They have a showing next weekend and I just want to know if I should be planning to go up there. May just do it anyway and line up a few other places as well.

Part of me also just wants to live alone, but I feel like I'd get lonely and most of the places I can't afford. =(

Waters receded enough that we will have school tomorrow. 5 days off and I've forgotten how to student

I found some socks for you, @Trilt!

Do you still have spring break coming up too?

We will have the full spring break if nothing else weather related happens. It's in two weeks. I think our president said that we would have to miss two weeks of class to start taking break days away, which is relieving. We've had "snow" days in the past that were less dangerous than this was. Obama just declared a major disaster in 7 parishes.
