Random Stuffs

I was a good little adult this morning. I took out all of my trash and recycling and dropped my absentee ballot in the mail.
I was a bad little adult this week. I did not get an absentee ballot and now have to drive all the way to my home county and back on a school night.

Really want to go to SCAVMA Symposium, but... I be poor and have no monies. And it'd be over a day's worth of driving so I'd most likely have to fly and get a rental car... bleh.
I want to go too! I also need money...and I'm supposed to find how ever many hundreds t0 thousands it's going to cost me to live in Atlanta for a month next year...

My life is ruined! Ugh! I could have met rocky!

I really want to go but idk if I can afford it. I wonder if @SummerTheLynx would let me crash on his couch.
Given that I already have BI's little sister crashing on the couch, it depends on how cozy you would want to get 😛.

Any advice on/good resources for managing a flea infestation? My sister realized this week that her and my dad have one in their house. They have two dogs and five cats, so I'm having a hard time giving them suggestions as a lot of the things I know of work best if you stay out of the house for a day or two.

For clarification everything related to the animals themselves (flea meds and whatnot) is being managed by their veterinarian, I'm just looking for any tips for helping remove fleas from the house itself.

Vacuum every day with a bagged vacuum, and throw the bag away daily. Wash anything that will fit in your washing machine in the hottest water you can get (we used to tell people to boil a few pots of water for each load). Diluted bleach solution (I can't remember the proper dilution, sorry) on hard surfaces. Make sure you're getting under furniture, under/between cushions, etc. Even taking curtains down and washing them. Boil the dog toys, throw the pet beds away, etc.

I've never had to bomb my house so I can't say I have experience with that, but if you're having a real problem breaking the cycle, you may want to invest in an exterminator and get your yard and house taken care of by a pro.

Edit: Also keep in mind that it takes three months to actually break the flea cycle and start seeing results in most cases. That's why clinic-sold flea products won't back their products unless you prove you used them three months in a row.

The best thing is just vacuuming and washing pet beds, rugs, etc. Adult fleas aren't long lived so after a couple months of frequent vacuuming, there should be an obvious decrease in the population once you remove the eggs and larvae. Also, diatomaceous earth is a relatively cheap and safe product you can use in the home in areas that might be harboring flea larvae.

We used a DM based product, then vacuumed with a shop vac that could handle that, washed everything, and there was some sort of spray we used on couches and beds and such... but that was 12 + years ago. I remember vacuuming was the biggest thing.

I can handle the floor

My green pepper plants are actually looking good. I thought they were going to die for a few weeks there in August/September but now they're bouncing back.... until the weather changes and they all die for realz this time.

I'm hoping for just a couple more weeks of okay temperatures in central Ohio so that maybe I can have two or three small peppers. I might also be able to get a few more jalapenos but those plants really look like **** right now.

Ditto what everyone else said about the flea stuff plus ...

Flea Busters powder & leave a used tube of flea preventative (like Vectra) in your vacuum canister

I really need to be studying but this election is making it a little hard to focus.

I just love that *this* is the first election I'm a citizen for. Such a cluster.
No kidding. My first time voting in a presidential election and it had to be...this (2012 was the first election I was eligible for at age 20, but I was out of state, and once again because I am a bad little adult I had not registered/done an absentee ballot in time)

Why are veterinary pathologists so smoking hot?! All of our school pathologists are super attractive, super interesting and super nice. Of course @WhtsThFrequency totally feeds into my theory that this is true.

It's all part of our plan.

Haven't you seen Species?!?!

By the way, I think Dr. W is there with you guys at Penn now. She's awesometastic, I miss her.

Or they're like the coolest people to be around. Or both. That and zoo people, but I think path people are much less intimidating. That could be because I'm more self conscious around zoo people though.

I actually registered in PA (where I was going to school) instead of doing an absentee ballot for FL and I'm not even sure if that was legal but anyway my registration card didn't come until the day after the election so I didn't end up voting. So this was my first time voting as well!

The zoo people here are the coolest but I'm so star struck I'm just like :bag::bag::bag:

She is. I'm super bummed that she came in my 4th years cause she seems awesome. I stole her clin path handouts before I left and got it bound into a book. also try to listen to her youtube channel if I need a refresher on something.

There are multiple people on my FB complaining about the election results so far...and at the same time, stating that they did not vote? WTF? All of these are people that are eligible to vote.

You can't complain if you don't vote. When will people understand this.

Media is being a little dickish about it though. The local radio shows have titled tonight's broadcast "The Season Finale of America". Regardless of your political leaning, that's just rude.
They probably found that on the internet haha

Oh, I don't doubt it. I just don't think it is professional at all. I mean, not going to lie I smirked a bit when I first heard it, but an "official" voice shouldn't be that condescending to you guys.
Whatever happens in the states really effects Canada, and all of us know that. We are not "above" the US in any way other than (mostly) geography.

My friend just posted this on FB and I feel like it's just a perfectly accurate representation of my feelings...

I just wanted Florida to go blue and to go to bed. Instead I'm staring and anxious.

My first time voting and probably my last time being a FL voter, I'm gonna miss feeling so important

I have a hard time not laughing at things I shouldn't :hilarious:

I have a few friends that are not eligible to vote here. I don't mind them complaining since they have no voice. But the ones that can? Screw that.

And FYI, I used to vote in a swing state. Half of these "did not vote" people are in a swing state. So stupid. WHY WOULD YOU NOT VOTE IF YOU CARE???

Hm... I have a USD bank account. Regardless who wins tonight, I wonder if there will be impacts on the exchange rate tomorrow. Debating if I should transfer it over tonight just to be on the safe side

And, yeah, I just barely got my absentee ballot notarized and sent in on time... not that it really matters since Missouri always goes solidly red. 🙄

Haha, oh me too. I just don't think official media groups should be the ones saying those things. The memes on Facebook? Please continue those because they tend to be the highlight of my night.
Trying and failing to be cool, as the media does

Very dumb question here, so apologies.

The federal vote is based on seats, not vote% correct? As in doesn't matter if you have 70% of the votes, if you have less than majority seats you lose?

Ya electoral college. Popular vote is just used in a tie-breaker scenario.
