I hattttteee running into these! Especially when I'm alone... even if I really have to pee or get gas I'll try to wait until I get to a station I feel safer at. Ick.
I normally would've done that but I really needed to pee. I'm glad I went, too, because I couldn't spot any more gas stations/restaurants or other signs of civilization for a good 20-25 miles.

Also, holy crap, that was a long drive. The rain here is so bad and there were so many accidents on the way up here that my normally ~4 hour drive from KC to Ames turned into a nearly 6 hour drive because traffic around Des Moines was just that congested today.

Starting to watch the show Lost by request of my SO... oh my gosh I'm going to have problems not binge-watching this show. So. good.! How I haven't discovered this show before now I'll never know.

Evangeline Lilly is my celebrity crush (Kate). My god, I'm in love with that woman; so sexy 😍😍😍😍😍

On another note, I just found out the other day that if I stick shoes on my stumps it looks like I'm a tiny little man sitting in a chair. For the Christmas party in a few weeks it's supposed to be an ugly sweater theme but I'm going as Santa's elf with big ol' curly shoes on my stumps.

Oh my god. 😆

I need to see if I can afford airfare. If I can, I'll totally come!
Found out a bit more about it-it's more geared towards students with who don't have access to a wildlife clinic. So I guess that means if you feel you're lacking in this area, this is good for you. I don't want anyone flying out here and being disappointed because they feel pretty confident with the stuff that will be covered!

My family does a secret Santa thing for gifts. It's our first year with my brother-in-law, and I was really hoping not to get him because I have no gift ideas. He's weird and particular and his parents just give him jeans and money for Christmas every year. Guess who I got. 🙄

That's why I like secret santas like the one we did with our class - you fill out a questionnaire so that the person who gets you has an idea of what you like

Lol, I just went full groucho on this poor person because I was trying to nap and that annoying little ding that tells you you have a Facebook message came up. the first line I read was "I have vet questions" and I replied I wasn't about to give them a free consultation... they just wanted some advice on applying. omg what have I turned into

Clearly they were in the wrong for not having your nap schedule memorized!

Last night, I dreamed I got so done with this job I went and interviewed at a vet clinic as a tech. (I had warned them that I was preggo and only gonna be there for a few months so I could mostly train new staff how to be awesome, while I hid from this evil job.)

The vets were super nice and thrilled to have someone with all my experience and tripping over themselves to make me feel like this was a good idea. The staff was made up of all my favorite tech personalities. The case load was technically a small animal GP, with one vet that ran a mobile LA and contracted with the zoo plus other exotics work and they had on call ER shifts with all the equipment to support it, and had a donation based low income support program that ran S/N clinics every other week. So I could rotate through all the departments and hand off my knowledge and get one last hurrah in vet med.

Guys, I almost woke up crying it made me happy and homesick for vet med at the same time!

Who on Earth buys white scrubs?
Went to get some scrubs after work and a very large portion of the selection was solid white.
You show up in those and you are just daring something to happen.

The practice manager at one of the clinics where I shadowed wore white scrubs one time. That's the only time I've ever seen them.

Thanksgiving week I interviewed for one job with the state and in a week I'll be interviewing for another. They're both in public health and they both deal with infectious diseases, but one is for an entomologist and the other is for an epidemiologist. While I could use the experience in epidemiology (six months to a year will qualify me for higher paid positions throughout state and federal gov't), I really like my bugs. I just don't know what the other competition looks like for that job and I don't know what factor is most important in the long run. I check all the boxes - I have an advanced science degree, I have entomology coursework, and I have six months of entomology experience in addition to two years worth of public health/government internships and practicums. I'm sure I'll go far in considerations but for the entomology job I worked this past summer/fall (which was basically the same job only seasonal) there were applicants from all over the US who applied some with actual entomology degrees and years of work in entomology (though not necessarily in public health or med/vet entomology).

My mom keeps asking me what I want for Christmas and I don't really have anything I need so I'm now sending her pictures of rabbits for adoption and telling her Sparks needs a boyfriend

She is getting so annoyed at me haha

I'm such a jerk. I sent my mom a picture of Sparks flopped out and said she was depressed because she doesn't have one and my mom thought I was serious and felt bad. Whoops! Haha

I love moms
IMG_0124.JPG

I'm not sure I totally have her convinced this is a relaxed pose either

That does look a little sad though, from that angle

I concur. You need a second bun.

She asked one of my cats to groom her today, I think she'd love a friend! Just need to find a male bun at a shelter out here. Or adopt one when I'm home over Christmas....

If my cats weren't such turds and would respond to her I'd feel less bad. Cat was like "wtf are you doing?!?" and ran away

So this isn't a rant or a rave, so I guess this is as random of a post it could be. But my cousin's grandpa (who was basically my own grandpa) died this morning. And I guess I hate being a student sometime because I have two very important finals at the exact time of the funeral/ memorial. So sometimes it sucks being a student because the rest of my family was able to take off work, and I have to stay and do my finals.. 🙁

I'm sorry for your loss CDO. It definitely is hard being a student, and not being able to attend funerals. My grandma passed away back in September, and I was stuck 1000 miles from home in the middle of vet school and couldn't attend hers either. I know it's hard, but I am sure he was so proud of you achieving your academic dreams and would want you to do well, hopefully you can take comfort that. You'll have another angel on your shoulder as you take those finals this week. *hugs*

thank you aloha. I'm sorry to hear about your grandma. Yeah, it is comforting to hear that, thank you very much.

Thank you Caiter! Yeah, so overall 2016 has been pretty s***ty🤐 for me. My step-grandfather died in March and then the man who treated me like a granddaughter died this morning, and, at a much smaller magnitude, my Betta fish also died a couple weeks ago. Let's hope I get some good emails in the next couple of weeks to turn this year around. :xf::xf:

If I have a breakfast burrito at 10:30, is it still a breakfast burrito or does that make it a brunch burrito....a brunchito
definitely still a breakfast burrito haha the normal time of breakfast doesn't apply on weekends/ the morning after drinking

Oh I'll eat them whenever I want, just wondering at what time of day it stops being a breakfast burrito

I think if it has eggs, it's always a breakfast burrito, no matter the time of day. hahaha. These are life's important questions.

I had my first burrito a few months ago. Alas, it was a frozen one from a gas station freezer and was pretty gross.

Think I threw up in my mouth a little bit. That's like comparing gas station sushi, or gas station anything, to the real deal. Or Canadian football to American football
