@JaynaAli yesterday I saw a double Westie puppy appointment and they were SO cute and I thought of you and Winston 🙂
Woo hoo! Twice the fun! I can't imagine raising two terriorists terrier puppies at once. I have simmering puppy fever...Winston loves puppies but only in short doses so that will have to wait.

Anyone else affected by the delayed text thing that happened yesterday? I got one from an ex. We had broken up a little over a month ago and it was still very fresh to me, so seeing the text sent me in a panic. I ended up responding yesterday and then saw this article. I’m ready to crawl into my dark hole and hide now. Texts sent months ago finally delivered to phones, and no one can say why

o yeah. our son-in-law got three from my hubby. at 3am. they were panicking, because they know we are sound asleep at that time, plus it was talking about some part for the truck or something like that. weird, weird, weird.

My mom got one from my dad at 3am. He was asleep beside her and his phone was on the charger. It said "Love you too, happy Valentine's Day!" She was very confused!

Husband got one from his manager. It just said something like “can’t talk now, in a meeting.”

So if all these texts went out randomly... does that mean the carriers are keeping them somewhere? Like, they have copies of all our texts at least 4 months back?

NSA is probably intercepting everything that's put out there on the line.

Some intern probably hit pause on something that finally got corrected

Anyone going to AWJAC at CSU this weekend? I'm going with an undergrad and graduate team as an individual. We're leaving Champaign at about 5 or 6 pm Thursday and getting into CSU Friday afternoon.

Can we talk engagement rings? I’m in talks with my SO about styles. I know I don’t want a traditional gem-set ring, I’m going for more of a channel-set type. Anything I should keep in mind/avoid when it comes to buying for a future SA vet?

Get what you want as a fancy ring and then buy one of the silicone ones for work.

I've actually gone through most of clinics just wearing my ring on my finger, or if I was going to be doing surgery or palpating, putting it on a necklace chain. Haven't had any issues and I can't think of anything ring-specific that you would want to avoid, especially with a channel set, since it's less likely to snag on things anyway.

Or just a pipe cut white gold / gold ring for work. They're usually like $100
My wedding ring is like this. I wear just the wedding band on days that I'm doing anything that involves gloves or in case I need to take it off for work/labs.

I almost lost my engagement ring once when the necklace I was wearing it on broke when I was outside... Like a dozen coworkers had to help me find it in a field because it had fallen off without me realizing. I don't wear it now unless I know I'm just doing classwork/ office work all day and won't need to take it off.

Sometimes I wish I had just asked for the $100 band and not asked for a fancy engagement ring at all. It's beautiful but it ends up at home more often than not because I'm paranoid about losing it and it is often not practical to wear for work/school and frequent hobbies.

I also have a Qalo ring (silicone) that I wear if I don't want to wear my wedding band for some reason. (Usually because I'm doing something active and I am excessively paranoid about ring avulsion injuries ::shudder:: )

Honestly, get whatever you like. You’ll take it off for surgery and you won’t have your whole hand in a cow butt so you’re good. I only ever wear my wedding band which is a rose gold band with a couple teeny diamonds in it. I never take it off, including for cleaning or other hands-on chores; I purposefully picked something I wouldn’t feel the need to baby. My engagement ring on the other hand is beautiful and large and flashy and I wear it for special occasions only. My coworkers wear their traditional solitaire settings daily with no problem.

With a channel set, you still need to have it checked every so often that everything is situated correctly. Especially if you are going to be wearing it all the time. I used to work in a jewelry store; saw a few channel set that had to be repaired. Not as many as the "normal" ones..but enough to realize that they are not maintenance free.

@cubsrule4e I know I'm going to regret asking this, but do y'all do temporary tarsorrhaphies on humans? (if so, please do not show me a picture because I will probably curl up and die)

You’ve asked this before

Also, I was curious- do y’all do temporary tarsorrhaphies in humans? (And with what indication??)

(Yes I could google it but that would show me pictures of a human eye and that’s a no no idea)
Does this mean i need to duplicate my answer 9 times? 😱

Temporary tarso gonna be mostly for something like a non-healing erosion (something like a neurotrophic ulcer) or an acute/subacute exposure keratopathy or the risk for developing it (like after a bells palsy and the eye cant completely close, or if theres lid trauma or like a burn, you can do that temporarily until they are well enough for a lid reconstruction surgery). Obviously once ulcer heals or lid functionality is regained you can undo it. Sometimes those neurotrophic ulcers become impossible to fully heal or are rapidly recurrent, and if the vision potential is poor then you can do a permanent one or something like a Gunderson flap (take the conjunctiva, make a flap, and sew it down across the cornea, so that theres no longer any corneal exposure and its a little better cosmetically not having to keep the eye sewn shut.

Now enough work for today, everyone get to the beer or whiskey thread! :heckyeah:

I want to talk about Spotify. Did you guys know that students pay half price on Spotify subscriptions? And that it comes with free Hulu and Showtime? AND that subscribers are receiving a free Google home mini?

That's $60 a year for all of that. It's bananas.

I've had Spotify so long I don't think I qualify for the student discount anymore even though I'm still a student  I should look into that though. Did combine with Hulu a while back but I don't think it covers the commercial free plan, and I can't stand Hulu ads.

I knew about the student rate but had no clue about the free google home mini. Just set it up to be delivered ! Thanks for sharing

You can still get the discount. I changed over when I became a student. It is hulu with ads, but you get showtime too

My google mini came a few weeks ago! Took a like 4-6 weeks to show up, fyi (no complaints since it was free!)

We have a mini from that promotion (or one like it) and it was happily connected in the kitchen until my husband decided there was too much network traffic back and for from it to... somewhere. So it got decommissioned for now.

(My niece has an Alexa video thing in her bedroom and I was like, uhh... I’m taking that down before I sleep in there. Like, no.)
