DVMD! I remember this video from years ago! It looks like it would be awesome to do!

I look at this gif and I start copying it.

So, yeah, I'm pretty sure the musical episode of Batman The Brave and the Bold is one of the best things ever.

Was looking up a specific type of fracture for surgery exam studying and the wikipedia article had a picture of a human version of the fracture. I recoil in horror...and then go back to my notes which are full of gruesome animal injuries that don't bother me

I relate to that far too well. And I'm sure most everyone else on here does too. Look at people stuff, want to vomit. Like someone with a half torn off finger/toe nail = :barf:

Entirely random, but I feel like the biggest weirdo because I've been trying to narrow down my vet school list, and it's mostly based on location. I'm a Florida resident (though I go to school in Pittsburgh), and that's where my immediate family is. The only school I'm willing to go "far" away for is Penn. So UF, UGA, Auburn, Tuskegee, and NCSU are on my list, and then there's Penn as this odd outlier. 🙄

I know it's hard to get into as OOS, but I figured I'd tack it onto the bottom of my list since it's so close to where I live. I've still got another year before I'll be applying anyway, so by that time the list might be shorter 🙂

I'm offended that UTK isn't on your list!

Too far for me, I wanted to keep it to about 6 hours driving distance 😳 as for Penn I have family in Philly (plus I've wanted to go there...like...forever)

Its only a few hours past UGA!

Well... I... Ok ok, try to convince me 😛 I haven't really researched UGA, Auburn, or Tuskegee yet, but I know I want to go into Wildlife/Zoo med, so would UTK be good for that? Is there a wildlife center or a zoo nearby that I could work/volunteer at or something?
Also, schools that have a DVM/MPH program get higher sports on my list, so if it has that...

UTK is well known for its exotics/wildlife.

We partner with a zoo, tiger haven, the aquarium, appalachian bear rescue and an eagle foundation.

The advising against UGA is solely because of the numbers game of OOS acceptance rate, i.e., extremely small. The only boon is no interview at least.

If you really want to try and are confident though, go for it though; it's certainly possible though improbable. I applied as an at large student and got wait listed at least.

😱 This sounds pretty awesome

Well by the time I'm applying I want to narrow my list down to 5... UF, Penn, and NCSU are pretty much locked in, and it looks like I might bump UTK up there too. In all likelihood I'll drop UGA for somewhere that I have a higher chance of getting in.

When I was on clinical rotation, we also took care of most of the wildlife in the area. We had in at least 2 bald eagles, at least 2 tigers, a caracal, and much more. And that was on a 2 week rotation. during the first 3 years, they are pretty good about letting you observe, the clinicians/professors are pretty amazing, and there are multiple wetlabs and club activities with zoo/wildlife opportunities

Wow, that sounds amazing, like that is exactly the kind of stuff that I want to do.
I was also just look at their site, and correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the class size is a little smaller than most schools? Around 80? That seems pretty nice too.

I believe they try to accept 85 a year now.

Also forgot to mention that we host a wildlife/zoo/exotics symposium every other year with Mizzou (they get the other years)

And we have a good DVM/MPH program.

We're your perfect school.

🙂

My kitten has some pretty rank poops and gas. Made the connection that they get progressively worse as the fish tank gets dirtier. He drinks from the fishbowl. Now he is super mad that I made a cover for it. Sucker.

I blocked all the websites that I usually spend (waste) time on a couple days ago so I could focus on preparing for finals...and then I found this site 🙄

My best friend in UG called this site the " crack site " bc I would be on in class, between classes whenever I could lol

Yup lol. So sad I'm too busy to play right now. 🙁

Yeh same. Wanted to sign up for Misfits, but I don't have the time to keep up with that right now.

I've been meaning to ask about that since I've seen the threads and felt dumb for not knowing...what is it?

Sorta like dis: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafia_game

General principle is the same, but these games use themes and depending on the mod, maybe some crazy additional rules (Ahem, DocE)

I started the show about 2 weeks ago, shows what I've been doing with my spare time

I'll be done with season 2 tomorrow. haha

I just talked to a guy that I just met on the phone for an hour and a half. I usually hate talking on the phone and get really awkward but this was one of the best conversations I've had in a long time.

I'm from the Pittsburgh area! And my boyfriend went to Pitt 🙂 I go to school in Ohio though (but only two weeks left til summer! :soexcited: )

Has anyone ever shipped their car and have a suggestion for a company to use? Contemplating doing it for vet school.

I would suggest trailoring it behind a usual or the like if you didn't want to drive it. I bet shipping it would be pricy.

It depends. Sometimes you can find good deals, but yeah, the 'usual' price is pretty high. Then again, you should calculate out the price for the extra gas for trailering - usually pulling a car behind a u-haul halves the gas mileage. So, depending on how far you're driving and what gas prices are like in that part of the country, it might not be THAT much more expensive to ship.

You do also need to consider the fact that someone has to be there when the shipping company gets the car, and someone has to be at the other end when the shipping company delivers the car. If you're driving yourself, you may not be able to be the person at both ends of the trip.
