question for you and whoever wants to chime in.

doing a lab report for bio that includes plasmolysis. do you think creating an illustration in paint or illustrator and including it in the results section is tacky? This is truthfully one of the first real big girl lab reports I have done.

I'm not sure. We don't do lab reports for bio..

yeah, holy crap! making a mental note to never ever move to norway

Anyone else into knitting? I've gotten....way too obsessed with it. I've knit baby booties, a doggie sweater-dress, a doll skirt and matching hat, and a stuffed dog. I've only been doing this for a month.

Help, please.

Wow, you're much better than me. I've been knitting on and off for years, and all I make is scarves. I'm doing a pretty complicated (potato chip) scarf now, but still...scarves.

Tropictuco, I crochet (I am a terrible knitter). I need to pick it up again. I haven't crocheted much in the past 6 months.

Knit socks! And hats! And a sweater! Knit scarves for everyone you know! Knit pillows and skirts and bathing suits and cat toys and blankets and shirts and bags and a doll to put the doll clothes on!

Learn to crochet and sew and spin and weave and felt and dye!

(I may be slightly obsessed with textile arts...)

I don't have the patience to take on a project as long as a scarf yet...maybe a doll scarf! My first project is/was a a throw blanket and I'm only 1/3 of the way through it. Hence my little tiny projects. My nieces have American Girl dolls and they're about to get a whole new wardrobe.

wldlfstdnt...I've only done a little crocheting around the edges of projects and I think it's really hard. My mom likes it better than knitting though.

Washbucket, I tried socks but I struggled with the double-pointed needles. I got the concept eventually but it's just so awkward. I love socks though...I would love to be able to make them.

That's what I do because I suck at knitting. But the last thing I made was a cat toy and since then, nothing has happened..

I am half way through a baby outfit (just making it cause it is cute), gave up on it 6 months ago. I should just start crocheting stuffed animals again.

My knitting skills allow me to make scarves. Basically anything that's a square or a rectangle. Can't seem to get the hang of anything else. And I suck at counting rows or changing patterns or whatever so its just plain squares for me

Saaaame. But potato chip scarves look a lot more complicated than they are. It's short rows: knit x, then turn around and knit it back, etc. And it sort of counts itself--you can tell which short row you were on, and it doesn't change from row to row. Makes it easy when I put down a project for months at a time to pick it up again (I've been working on this particular scarf on and off since summer! 😱)

I've been knitting on and off since I was a kid. I did a lot of mittens this year (I think I posted a pic of one pair) and knit a sweater for my foster puppy. I've done all sorts of stuff though, mittens, hats, slippers, sweaters, stuffed animals, bags, etc. I don't do it super frequently. A lot of the time I'll take a weekend, knit something, then not do anything for a while.

Potato chip scarves? :eyebrow: Imma Google this....

Today is Mardi Gras aka Fat Tuesday, so have fun!

Fat Bob demands it

Have you tried the Magic Loop or two circular needles methods? Also, were you using four or five double-points? Some people find four easier, some five.

You COULD also knit socks flat and sew them up, but personally I don't know of any patterns for that and I think it probably isn't worth it.

If you like small projects, may I suggest mittens, gloves, fingerless gloves, and armwarmers? Also, there are books of "one skein" patterns, which might suit you. If you want to do blankets, you could try knitting a bunch of squares and sewing/grafting them together at the end.

It's called a potato chip scarf because apparently you can't knit just one! It's a ruffled sort of look.

Yes I do!!! 😀
Happy Fat Tuesday everyone! I made mini king cakes today for classmates. I didn't have any babies so I used little pigs instead 😀.

I made jambalya to celebrate Mardi Gras. Also we had a party on Saturday and I brought king cake flavored vodka because that is apparently a thing.

I had a king cake martini last night. It wasn't as good as it sounds lol.

I tried it with 5 double pointed needles but I lost one so if I pick it back up I'll have to use four. I think I might try the magic loop after all these little American Girl projects I found. Thanks for the suggestions!

I just learned how to do magic loop after forever and it is SO much easier than double pointed. Double pointed is so awkward even after I've done it a million times.

Soooo.....

Someone came in to the clinic where I'm volunteering today with their dog, who has a swollen and inflamed scrotum, and said that their friend told them it was "nut rot," and that some of his dogs get it every winter.

...

Um...

So after the vets and the techs and I stopped laughing, we tried to find anything online about an actual medical condition that gets referred to colloquially as "nut rot." No dice.
Anyone heard of this?

Never heard of a condition called nut rot but I bet I know how to fix it...

I freaking love this article.

Interesting fact. I was surprised to see the pic of my friend with her dog. I totally worked as a tech with the writer of the article.

In other news, I applied for 2 positions today. 1 is a home euthanasia thing. Not sure how I feel about it other than it would be better than what I do now

That's pretty cool! And the article is pretty spot on I think lol.

So like, exclusively house call euthanasias? That sounds rough.... 🙁

Whenever I get less than, say, 6 1/2 hours of sleep, my body plagues me with a headache and/or nausea. I pretty much never go on less than 8 hours of sleep for more than 1 night otherwise I am miserable. Anyone else have a body that spites them? :meanie:

My body just gets very very grumpy . I shoot for about 7hrs every night so that I'm a pleasant person to work with lol

I used to be able to pull all nighters without an issue. Just a year ago, I could stay up all night. Lately, though, not even close. At least 6 hours if I'm even going to attempt to get out of bed in the morning. And that's with about four alarm clocks and multiple cups of coffee. 8-9 seems to be the magic number lately for feeling rested. Alarms in general make me cranky. I like to wake up at my own speed.

I just wanted to say...

Happy-Birthday-children-celebration-photo.jpg

to FromTheBox!! Your first island birthday is an even bigger mixed bag of emotions than birthdays normally are, but I hope it's a wonderful day (minus the physio exam!)! Welcome to our SGU family 😀

Poofs!
Only going to put this up briefly, but finally put my homemade surgical cap to good use!

how did you make the cap?

I made up a pattern for it. I tried to figure out how to make a pattern on the computer so I could share it with everyone, but I couldn't figure it out. I may try again at some point because they are super easy to make.
