Random Stuffs

I overheard a coworker talk about how much resent he feels for people who take in stray cats.
Why? Because he hates cats and thinks they are terrible animals.
I was a bit confused and asked him why on earth he works in animal medicine.

"It pays the bills, my dear. That's all."

Really? That is terrifying. I have had jobs that have "just paid the bills". I folded t-shirts, made burritos, scanned groceries. How can I expect them to treat a patient any different than I treated the t-shirt, burrito, or box of cereal?

The more I think about it, the more scary it becomes.

That's really weird. I could probably name a dozen different jobs that pay better and require less education in under sixty seconds. 🙄

Reminds me of a guy I met when I was zookeeping last summer. He came up and started chatting with me because he used to work for that zoo. When I asked if he was still working in animal science, he told me: "Nah, it didn't pay enough. It's fine for you, you're a girl. Your husband or boyfriend will provide for you. I'm a man, so I have to be the breadwinner."

His exact words. I took all my self-restraint not to punch him. 😡

You ever know someone who hasn't had an SO since you've known them and all of a sudden they have one and it freaks you out?

Yeah I was starting to view my roommate as asexual but I now he is dating a boy and it's just weird! Not bad weird, just Idk. Strange. I've never seen him even remotely affectionate with anyone in 6 years that I have known him.

Maybe now he won't be so grumpy.

He's probably just grumpy because he needs to get laid... Let's hope it solves your crappy roommate issue. Perhaps he'll stop being so passive aggressive.

I don't know what a WW game is. What is a WW game? Is it fun? Can I play? 😀

Here's a wiki on the basics. If you're interested in playing, read through a couple old threads to get an idea of how they work on SDN and then sign-up when a new game starts. 🙂

Not sure if rant or rave...I ran most of the four-mile loop today (admittedly with lots of walk breaks), which I'm pretty proud of, but I'm dead exhausted from it.

Northgate! 😀 The Dixie Chicken is a classic. A lot of fun bars around there.

Fuego has tasty mexican food for cheap and is open 24/7, no one has better fried chicken than Layne's. I always heard great things about Hullabaloo diner but never got the chance to try it myself. Antonio's (also on northate) has awesome pizza...Chicken bacon ranch...yummm.

And if you need a coffee break pass on Starbucks and hit up Mugwalls or Sweet Eugene's.

Have fun!

My heart is super heavy today, my boss at my GP back home lost her fiancé in a boating accident yesterday. They were supposed to get married next weekend and the accident occurred at his bachelor party on the lake. I spoke to her on Friday and she was so excited for the wedding. 🙁 they just closed on their new house last week 🙁

After my river experience a couple of weeks ago I am really emotional about all this... This could happen to anyone 🙁 so terribly sad. I think I'm gonna stay out of the water for a bit 🙁

KP How horrible.. I'm so sorry for her loss. That's just unfathomable.

As for me I'm in some physical pain but I completed the Jimmy Fund Boston Half-Marathon walk. 13.1 miles and it was worth every painful step to beat cancer! We walked in support of our friend who is currently undergoing treatment, and for my best friend who is 18 years in remission. Love the Jimmy Fund!

ohh KP, that is horrible. All the support is being sent out to her and his family. 🙁

I don't know about shopping, haven't done much besides home improvement and groceries since I moved here this summer, but Grub Burger has some great food. Hullabaloo was pretty good, my husband and I grabbed a pizza there for the first time last weekend and we're pretty happy with the food and service, and Blue Baker seems to be popular. How long will you be in town?

So, this definitely falls into the random stuff thread. I just found it amusing.

One of the professors that teaches endo stuff to us this year used to live on PEI and included this in her slides...

If you go to the official gov't website and then go to pictures and videos, then tell it you want a slide show, it takes you here and has horses as an option in the list. (Just X out of the pop up to save the slideshow, it works without saving it.) If you look at the horse in the second photo of that series... does that look like an especially healthy horse?

She just thought it was funny that they included it in their photos - oh what a pretty horse - when it looks like it might have some PPID type problems...

Grub is delicious! Their milkshakes are freaking amazing. Place is kind of pricey though.

Chicken oil co is good, didn't think it was anything super special. Only went there once or twice though.

Glad you're having fun swings.

I need some opinions on a situation. Roommate used the microwave last night while having several other things plugged in, caused a power surge, microwave is dead. The microwave was mine so I asked my 2 roommates if they wanted to contribute 10$ each for a cheap 50$ microwave and they both declined saying they don't use the microwave a lot. Would it be a douche canoe move to buy the microwave and keep it in my office for my own use?

Nope. Roommate killed your microwave. Doesn't want to help purchase a new one. Doesn't get to use the new one.

Agreed. There's no way I would have it accessible to them when they're not interested in helping fix their mess-up (whether they would use it or not).

If I broke something belonging to a roommate, I'd be replacing it myself. Not even helping pay for a new one seems pretty immature imo.

That sucks, ky.

What kind of roommates do you have that don't use a microwave often?

Keep the new one in your office, and soon enough they'll see how nice it is to have one...

They are being ridiculous.

That was my thought exactly. Don't let them use it and then they'll realize quickly how frequently they use one.

Just curious (not getting defensive about the beloved island 🙄) - what looks PPID about it to you? It's rather fat and pretty dirty but the hair coat looks normal to me. Considering how lush the pastures are around here before winter hits, many of the island horses look fat and sassy over the summer months.

Anyone watch Torchwood? Is it any good?

Which one? Children of Earth is good, but disturbing enough that I will probably never watch it again. Not like gross disturbing or like torture or anything, but... well, humans being as bad as humans can be when they're scared. I haven't watched much of the original series, admittedly. I 😍 John Barrowman.

But don't touch Miracle Day with someone else's bargepole. 🙄

Ahhh see I didn't know there were two! Good to know....I had only seen something for Miracle Day.

I have an app on Chrome that allows me to get UK (and American) netflix, so I've been re-watching Dr. Who from the beginning.

And John Barrowman....yes.....😍

There's Torchwood, which is just the original series. Then there's a (five?) part mini-series called Children of Earth, and then Miracle Day.

Space is running a Doctor Who marathon, the reboot series, every Sunday presumably until the 50th special on November 23. This coming Sunday is the last two episodes of Series 1, The Christmas Invasion, and the first 5/6 episodes of Series 2. In case you need more distraction. :meanie:

Bad bad bad.....good thing I don't have cable. Marathons are dangerous. 😀

Though my will power is not that great with the internet. When netflix starts another episode I'm thinking "Wait, no........well, maybe one more......"

Right there with you...especially if it's a two-parter! I'm up to season 4 episode 16 of Supernatural.

My friends and I totally had a discussion about this the other day. Same exact thing happens to us every time.

I'm considering making my boyfriend change the password to our netflix account. I can't stop watching Breaking Bad...it's all I ever think about.."when can I watch it again?" I have a problem. I need to study..

So I've been trying to cook more complicated meals than just pasta and sauce since it's about time I learned how to cook. Before tonight, I've only really made one "fancy" dinner meal. To try to experiment, I've been browsing pinterest for recipes and so far have been doing pretty well them...and even just using them for guide lines more than anything else.

I made chicken tenders last night with a brown sugar/garlic glaze type sauce and tonight's meal was pretty awesome.

It's a spaghetti squash caprese pasta bake, with spinach, diced tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and tons of garlic. I added in some sun-dried tomato pesto for a little extra flavor and garlic/cheese chicken sausage. Freezing the leftovers for some extra meals during exams.

Next task: parmesan kale chips.

Tomorrow is my epidural for my back.

Nervous about the anesthesia (I've never been sedated)... But excited to hopefully have some pain relief.

Also hope this didn't impede my ability to study for our Urinary systems exam on Monday.

I haven't been here regularly in so long and I've kind of missed it!
