I've been kind of hooked on those boxed dinner ingredients shipping thing, and I love it! Not the most original recipes, and not the cheapest at $11-12/meal, but I eat much healthier and varied meals with it. It like totally takes out the thinking and shopping which is the biggest barrier to get me cooking.
What is this boxed dinner thing you speak of? I'm worried about my eating habits once I start school because although I love to cook, I will not touch the kitchen if I am tired because I can't think of anything to cook and trying to come up with something is exhausting. This seems like it could be a good idea for me.

There's a few different companies that do it. One is called Blue Apron, and I've heard very good things!

On another note: An application for a corporate rep position just got sent out. I would love to get this job, but a reference from the veterinary school is required. I feel like I'd be a fool asking for a reference after just two weeks of classes. 🤔 I seriously am such a fan of this company, though. Does anyone have any suggestions?

during 4th year and now, i tend to cook once a week and make 4-5 meals out of one thing so that i have good food to eat but its not too time consuming. crockpot and oven things mostly

Plated, Hellofresh, and Blue Apron are the three companies that do them.

I use Hellofresh and I've been really happy with them. It's 3 meals for 2 with enough ingredients for exact portions for $69 including shipping. Meals are filling and tend to be around 500-600 kcal per plate. It is most definitely environmentally unfriendly, and that makes me feel bad... But not enough to stop me.

I've been thinking about getting hello fresh. Why do you feel it's environmentally unfriendly?

Blue Apron is doing $30 off your first box right now...I may take advantage of that when my boyfriend visits. I'm sure he'd appreciate real food that's safe to eat.

Lots of boxes (styrofoam on hot days) with disposable ice packs, and fuel associated with shipping individual portions. So much material wastage, though admittedly way less food wastage on my part when I use these boxes.

If you go on Facebook and stuff, they have tons of free first box or half off free first box deals for like essentially all the companies.

Cool, thanks. I'll definitely look into it. Your pictures looked delicious!

As much as I hate grocery shopping... I won't be restricted by your RULES, man. Down with the system! I'll make what I want with these nectarines and lettuce and steak, TYVM.

(I'm actually curious how it had you cook the steak, anyway. Did it send seasoning for the steak? It doesn't give much to go on online.)

My mom did a passable job of cooking - enough of it was good to enjoy eating meals at home, and a few things I really liked. I'm not sure where my 'cooking' gene came from - maybe it skips a generation?

I think this particular steak was salt/pepper, but other times they do send you seasoning. Seared all sides for a few min then into the oven at 400 for 5-7 min.

My problem is that I'm out working essentially from 6:30 am mon through 9-10pm wed. Thursday I sleep all day. So the box is what I live off of for the rest of the week. I don't want to grocery shop, and I really can't think that far ahead the Saturday prior to come up with what I want to eat for the week. And whatever produce/meats I buy, 50% of it goes to waste because I forget it existed. And I can't keep track of spices/condiments/butter/etc... So I end up with way too much stockpiled, or when it finally comes time to cook, it turns out I don't have it. It really takes the thinking out of it. And honestly, they do have recipes I wouldn't come up with myself and wouldn't even think to look up. Like the shrimp ceviche tacos. That was awesome!

A week ago those fresh direct coupons were all over my FB feed... now I'm ready to give it a try and I can't find a single one!
I shoulda posted this on Mon. Apparently for a day, I had the opportunity to refer emails to 4 people and they would have gotten a free box each!

God Eater: For people who enjoyed the gore and emotional despair of Shingeki no Kyojin and wanted to experience it with all new characters and more T and A.

Thank you for this anime suggestion, because I'm now watching it. I can always use more anime in my life! We always seem to have the same taste!

👍 Episode 4 has feels. Stein's Gate, Aldnoah.Zero and Ao no Exorcist are worth looks too. Though Stein's Gate will leave you as a blubbering baby on the floor, so consider yourself warned.

Earlier today, I learned that Littlefinger from GoT played a very promiscuous gay character on an older show called Queer as Folk. I started watching it out of curiousity and I'm completely addicted. It shifts back and forth from exceedingly graphic and funny to extremely serious on a whim.

Gonna be a great weekend since I have 4 exams next week. Oh well, perfect time for anime!

This post on Veterinary Team Brief's FB page has me verrrry distracted right now....

Now I have to look...
Cliff notes version:
They post: Should we open more vet and vet tech schools?
Prospective students: yes but just because we want to get in somewhere.
Older mixed practice vets: yes, but only if they produce vets that aren't afraid of hard work and don't believe in vacation.
Current vets: mix of no and maybe because there are "shortages"

I found it to be an interesting point where people are calling for higher pay for techs because of school costs...how is that different than vets graduating with debt? Maybe I'm way off.

But guyzzzz!! We totes need more schools cuz like, my in state school is SO MEAN and won't let me in even tho I've wanted to be a vet since like FOREVER! And can we build a school like right by my house cause moving is so inconvenient and I shouldn't have to do it.

"Yes... 12 spots for half of Canada is ridiculous and over 500 applicants not to mention Canada is in desperate need for large animal surgeons."

What is she even talking about? 12 spots?

LA surgery residents at WCVM certainly don't think there's a need. 😛

All schools should be cheaper or all vets/techs/assistants should be paid more. Now just to get schools and the general public on board.

I was mostly perplexed by the one who seemed to be complaining that a lot of people were from the GTA and so Niagara/Hamilton/Burlington needed another school? I really couldn't parse what he was on about...

There's been a comment or two about the latest vet school in Canada not being needed as well.

I'll admit I've been a little confused about whether UCVM was needed too, but at least it's not gouging students like some of the recent US schools. Most of my worry is a gut reaction at what's happening in the USA and I don't want to see the job market tank here too.

Regional markets are more of a factor here than the U.S. I think because of the regional admission.

I am pretty happy to see Canadians commenting on everything. 🙂

Right?! Something about only having time to watch it when I got home from work at 10PM, lol. However, I did plow through 2 seasons in a week or two once I quit my job. So now I know better than to have a job when there's Netflix to be watched.
This is why I'm working part time 😉

So, yesterday my internmates and I got reamed out for having incorrect spelling and grammar in our discharge instructions. Today's my day off, but I'm going in for teaching rounds. Is it passive-aggressive to show up in this tee shirt?

Or merely hilarious?
The senior clinician in charge of reviewing our discharges and dividing up that task used to be and English professor she loves to edit the heck out of our stuff haha (it's always way after the fact though)

I was telling my boss about how we only have the manual right now, and my brother has a permit and I can't drive stick, so the only way we can use the car is if we go together.

She says, "You're an adult, right?" (Meaning, my brother can drive if I'm in the car, and it's all legal.) I've been working for her for 2.5 years, and I'm graduating college this year . . . I guess I should be honored she thought I might be some sort of teenage prodigy person? 🙄 Oh well.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a practice suture board/kit? I've been looking around for one and I don't want one that falls apart after being sutured a few times.

Make your own! I got wood from Home Depot and an old surgery towel and folded it over a couple times to make an "incision." I also have old tubing for a "pedicle." It's worked great for two years!

OK, I'm glad to hear that fabric actually works pretty well. I bought one for $8 off of a third year who makes them, but I started to worry that the more realistic ones would be better. Thanks!!

I've seen people use chicken legs, which allows you to suture different layers. Of course this is also minimal use for suturing, but then, assuming you eat meat, you can cook it and eat it.
