Are post-grad internships at places like Blue Pearl as respected as the ones at a veterinary school (comparing small animal medicine/surgery for both)?

As respected for what... I guess is an important question.

If you're asking about for residency applications, a good way to get a general sense is to search the VIRMP site now while all the program descriptions are up, and look at where it says how many interns for each program applied for residencies and how many actually accepted a residency position.

I think there's something to be said for what Minner is saying. It comes across as almost..."know-it-all" esque or overbearing. I know that's not the intent, and that's not covering any/all of your comments. But there are certain comments where I think maybe a little less something would be good.

Lil Bub's facebook page recently posted some rads of her, thought they were pretty neat:

Oh mah gaw, Lil Bub lives in Oklahoma? Must be, because that's totally one of our main surgery clinicians in the background of that photo. Crazy. I didn't notice before!

Holy cow! I didn't even know that. One of my classmates pronounces his name with a hard CAT. haha

But it's chat, not cat. It's French for cat?

If going french it is more like chez. It is definitely his accent that the pronunciation was made into cat. I still call him that in my head because I actually liked it quite a bit, especially with a rolled R.

Good to know that's how it's being seen by at least some. There's no point in trying to communicate with someone if they're instantly put off by what you're trying to say because you're sounding like a "know-it-all" or are overbearing.

I'm not saying you or pinkpuppy or doing that - honestly I think you guys give some good, constructive feedback. Certainly some of the other posters do. But if you correct your peers often, there may be a negative return for you.

Ahhh I see. The two particular internships I was comparing have fairly similar %'s when comparing applied for/accepted residencies.

I guess my main question would be whether or not an internship at a private/chain practice or something similar holds less value CV-wise compared to a teaching hospital internship.

its all in context i suppose.

its still all about context though. what is the goal post-internship? if its to get into academia, then no, academics will typically always prefer academics. if its to get into private practice, it is probably of more value to have a private practice background.

I see what you're saying. Mostly, I feel like I just try to add on to others' posts when I see that something is confusing. Sometimes, people do say something completely false and cause people to freak out (Ohio State actually stepped in to correct someone last cycle lol). I don't ever intend to sound like a know-it-all, so hopefully I haven't been making anyone feel bad.

Really though, I'm regularly shocked by my peers. What they say, how they behave, and so on. Even today, a clinician was taking the time to teach us something and two girls were fiddling with their phones. He even stared at them for a few seconds and they had no idea. :smack: The fact that some people on that page don't make the connection of social media + professional life/future boggles my mind. It's almost drilled into us at school and our jobs.

Assuming the goal is to end up ACZM boarded at this point in my life. I know I'm still thinking about this stuff crazy early, but I really do like to have a rough outline of my plans. Even if I choose to do something other than zoo, I think I'd like to do an internship anyways.

Definitely did not even notice him the first time I saw the pic.

If he's not at Osu anymore that totally blows for the school. He's awesome and I really liked working with him.

Lots o' people shuffling round with budget cuts going on, but can't recall if he was one. Agree that I sure hope not. It sucks. Luckily, I have Dr. L all to myself as the LA anatomy TA! I adore him so much.

That's something you should ask the people who are on the selection committee for the zoo residencies/zoo internships you are interested in.

Context matters, if that hasn't been pounded in enough.

This. It's not necessarily the info you're putting out there. It's not even the way you're saying it. That might all be fine. And some info here and there is probably totally fine.

When you keep chiming in as someone who is constantly 'schooling' your PEERS, it may not reflect well on you. That's all.

If you don't care or see it that way, all the more power to ya.

I don't think it matters then, it's much more about networking and who you know.

I need to look up my employee ID for World Market so that I can begin planning, The Purchasing.

I'm waiting for a furniture sale because what I really want is an accent table for my living room and anything at or over 40% off would be great when combined with my discount. Yay!

Is anyone able to get the Clinician's Brief Cardiac Library to load its sound files? I've been wanting to study up on normal and abnormal cardiac sounds and this site has a pretty decent library. Does anyone have any other suggestions for resources? Thanks!

Edit: Looks like VIN has what I'm looking for.

I <3 VINs auscultation section. I'm so horrible at cardio.

Hi! Do I need to bring anything to a vet school interview besides myself and like a water bottle? I didnt take a fall class so no more transcripts. But im not expected to bring like five copies of my transcripts and resumes for a panel unless the school says so, correct?

No, you shouldn't need any paperwork.

But definitely bring a granola bar or something, especially if your interview is at an awkward time and the school didn't provide any food.

Oh yes really good idea, that would be so distracting and horrible... Aka I'm hungry right now. 😛

"Saw a thing a vet student posted recently about how there are 26 medical specialties that treat humans, but just one vet that treats all animals.

I had to make myself shut up and not say that little Johnny gets over your killing his cat a lot faster than he gets over things if you kill his mom. Pets also tend not to sue the **** out of you." --ridethecliche

Just saw this over on the med side of things. I lol'd.

I liked bringing a small notepad and a pen to write down any notes or questions I came up with.

Hi! Just wanted to check--for vet school interviews its more appropriate to wear a blazer/suit jacket than a cardigan? Thanks!

This is not a random topic. There are whole threads dedicated to this very question. Search young padawan. Search.

Did anyone else happen to be watching Miss Universe and see what happened? Steve Harvey is done lol

I didn't see it, and I'm curious.

I googled it, he announced the wrong winner.

I'm more of the, meh, he's human just like the rest of us. Humans make mistakes. Sucks that it was on live TV and how it happened, but I'd hope most people can understand, laugh about it and move on.

I just saw on Twitter that if you go look at the miss universe snapchat story, apparently the TelePrompter was wrong. Poor guy!

Yes, he announced the 1st runner up as the winner and the winner as the 1st runner up. But a producer should be in trouble!

I saw a picture floating around my Facebook-it showed the supposed card he read off of to announce the winner. If it really was the card, I can totally see why he'd read it incorrectly, especially if the first time he saw it was moments before he said the words into the microphone.

Also, for giggles: https://np.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/3xfw1s/vet_clinic_is_using_tainted_ketamine/ No clue as to how legit this post is!
