september. i was catsitting. i got very lost that night but QUESO
The time just runs together...fortunately one of my friends has a running tradition of going every time they have it so I should be good for the next 3 free queso days at least 😀

Where do you like for Thai? There used to be an awesome place on 31st just east of Mingo, where you'd get a giant metal donut of tom kha gai with a Sterno can keeping it hot, but they closed years ago. I haven't had really good Thai soup anywhere since.

We went to Bamboo Thai on Yale. It's not like, the *most* amazing, but it's good and open Sundays.

Should i watch this show during winter break? Yes or yes?

Uuuugh. The Last Guardian comes out tomorrow and I want to play it so bad! Shadow of the Colossus is one of my all-time favorites...but I don't have a PS4. Nor do I have money for said PS4. ;_; My brother has a PS4, but he said he's too busy playing FF to share... Being broke is so sucktastic.

Did you play Ico? I've played SotC, but was thinking of getting Ico for the coop elements

I did play it, but I don't remember it as well as Colossus, which I've played through many times. Given Ico's age, I think it'd totally be worth whatever it costs now. It 15 years, it should be cheap!

I probably won't be re-employed until after the first of the year at this pace. Oh, government jobs.
Once I have a money flow again I'm going to start planning for my rabbits to get spayed. They're at that age now where their hormones are going to make them little dinguses. So far they've been very civil. A few chases. Lots of humping but no fights.

Had my first interview yesterday and found out four interns have quit this year, since they had a meeting to discuss it while I was there. What is the most graceful way to figure out why that is? One of the interns (who hasn't quit) gave me her contact information.

Woah, red flags! where is this?

I'd email the intern that gave you contact information. I guess I don't see anything wrong with asking since it's such a big commitment for both the program and you. The program doesn't want people to quit mid-year, so I'd think they'd have a vested interest in making sure it's a good fit all around. Tell the intern you were glad to have had the opportunity to visit/interview and overall liked what you saw but are nervous that it seems like they are losing interns for some reason and you wondered if it was associated with the program (and if so, what is being done to fix it) or more personal reasons. As an intern I wouldn't have sugar coated anything (and didn't when asked), though I would have been respectful to the program and doctors if it were a program issue. I agree with jmo that it's a red flag, but it could also be an aberration. I do think it's important to ask about it somehow though.

I don't know many interns who didn't at least fantasize about quitting at some point. My internship definitely had its problems and was stressful, but none of my internmates quit. The interns that replaced us, though, have had 2 out of 4 quit within the first 4 months. One internmate stayed on as an ER doc at the clinic, and she's said that the program itself didn't change much between our two intern classes. They were probably just less willing to put up with all the crap associated with an internship, or maybe had a spouse that wasn't happy in the situation. Maybe it was the program, but maybe it was personal life stuff. It's hard to say and quite possibly a combination of factors.

Thanks for the advice. You kind of tackled my thoughts on the issue -- maybe the interns didn't like/couldn't handle the internship or maybe there were reasons outside of the internship to lead them to quit and it's just a strange year. However, I definitely want to make sure that there isn't a problem with the program that will be a detriment for me in the future.

My mom doesn't want us to have 'Mom' or 'Dad' saved as contract names in our phones because someone could steal our phones and extort them or something . . . So I changed her name to 'Nina Pinta Santa Maria' and it makes me happy whenever she texts me.

That's absolutely hilarious. My mom actually made us save her and dad as Mom and Dad because she says if I get in an accident, they're likely to call "Mom" or "Dad"

@Gwenevre

Kitty scarf! My lighting is super bad though.

Aah cute scarf! My mom has knitted many scarves, hats, and even a full sized blanket for me (my sister and I occasionally do small things too), but we only know how to use looms, no crochet...so idk how I could do something fancy like that.

Obviously your parents love you more. 😉

My sister crocheted it for Christmas a few years ago! I love it. I can knit scarves, but just the boring normal kind.

I have my mom and stepdad saved under their full names - convenient because neither of them have the same last name as me (incidentally, my mom has actually never had the same last name as me).

My dad is saved under his full name too, but at best someone would figure I was related to him but probably decide that he's my cousin or something.

I have both of my parents under their full names, mainly because my dad requested me to do that in fear of the exploitation. (Despite the fact that he would NEVER give out any personal information/banking/etc through text or cell network)
I do however have a group chat titled "Fam Jam" with both my parents in it. So that defeated the whole original purpose.

So far whenever I lose my phone people either call my best friend or my gas station boss. I don't know why those numbers are the first to come up.

Do you lose your phone a lot? 😛

Lol.
I break them more often than lose them, but I go through probably 2-3 phones a year, plus repairs. 99% of the posts I make on Facebook are some form of "Hey don't have a phone, please Facebook message me to get in touch!". I only buy old used phones off of internet trading sites now so I don't waste money.

I don't know how I break them; I always make sure I have Lifeproof cases or the sort. Stuff just happens. I would buy a Nokia flip phone, but iMessage is my saving grace (I have limited texting) and I really enjoy having internet access.

ETA: Just checked and the last time I posted about a phone was in September! Since then I did break one, but didn't bother posting about it since it was still somewhat functional. I think it might have been the same phone.

Apparently everyone is already planning every minute of their summer. I've got the Georgia Aquarium gig in August, but I think I'll apply for the Banfield SJP (honestly, I just need money). I'd try for the Merial Scholars thing again, but my school requires a 3.0....

Does anyone else have any cool plans?

I'm applying for Banfield SJP just to see if I can get a spot at my old hospital. Gonna have to schedule things around the wedding so it'll be interesting. I haven't looked into anything else yet, I'll be doing that over winter break.

Somebody just wanted to remind everyone that she will be a child bride this year. 😍

Anybody have interesting Christmas gift suggestions? My mom is a struggle and a half to shop for and I'm drawing a hard blank this year.

She loves:
  • Anything shiny or glittery (rhinestones, sequins, glitter, all of the above)
  • Unicorns
  • Reading (she predominantly reads newspapers and magazines as opposed to books - she reads about ~3 newspapers + 3 magazines front to back a day)
  • Coffee (black)
  • The color blue
  • Wine, with a preference for rosés and anything sweet (think white zinfandel/moscato)
And, uh, yeah, that's all I got. I just want her to have a good Christmas this year because she's having a knee replacement a few days before Christmas and I want her to get something nice. It's impossible though because even when I ask her what she wants the only thing she tells me is the same gift she already asked her Secret Santa at work for, which is a toy cat that is <$5 at the store (she wants it because it reminds her of our cat lol). She's also hopeless with any kind of electronics, which tosses out a lot of the "nice" gifts that are usually suggested for parents on Amazon and stuff. She also has a lot of metal allergies, so jewelry is tricky (and my stepdad super outclasses me in the jewelry department anyway).

I know for her it's much more important to just have me around for the holidays to spend time with her (that's definitely my holiday style as well), but I always end up getting her crappy gifts every year and I would really love to be able to surprise her for once. I was going to go on a huge shopping expedition this weekend to look for things for her, but I'd love to hear any ideas.

Kind of an awkward question...but do any of you wildlife rehab people mind hashing out a personal ethical dilemma I'm having? PM me (or FB if we're friends on there).

Also, Bath and Body Works needs to stop putting their ads all over my browsers. I have no money :sendoff:

Edit: Actually, I'd really appreciate anyone's input

I don't know anything about wildlife rehab, but I'm here if you need to vent/talk it out.

I did some, but it was never my main focus. (But almost was once.) If you need more input, let me know. Otherwise, I'll let the more experienced have at it.

vet head, I may be your mom. 😛 That list is really pretty close to what I have given my children in the past....that, and hints that I wanted a mother's ring. or bracelet. or necklace. or charms for my bracelet. nada. nothing. zip. from said children (there are 4 adults).....so......I got a tattoo of a unicorn, with flowers by his feet. the flowers are the colors of their birth months.

So, you could get your hard to by for mom a unicorn tattoo!!

I just got an email from VMCAS congratulating me on submitting my app and asking if I would like to fill out the survey.

One problem. I didn't apply this year...

Are they sending the same email to other people from prior years?

Yep I got the same email...must be a glitch

Haha unfortunately my mother absolutely hates tattoos. Maybe she'd agree to a solid temporary tattoo?

I have gotten her mother's jewelry before, for either her birthday or mother's day, I can't remember which. She loved it though!

Yeah, I got one too. For a second I thought CSU re-lumped my stats in with this year's cycle since I'm in the dual degree, but I don't think VMCAS would have known about that anyway.

sorry, I tried!!
You're fine! Like I said, she's crazy hard to buy gifts for.

At least I'll always be better at it than my dad. He once bought her 1000 thread count sheets for her birthday and was so proud of himself because he said he knew for sure my mom loved sheets. It was the only thing he got her. It's still considered the pinnacle of a bad present in my family lol.

If someone wants to buy me fancy sheets for a present, I am totally okay with it. Or pillows. Or anything to do with sleeping, really.
