Strongly considering a honeymoon in Costa Rica. Anyone have input?? Thanks!
Went there with the husband and another couple friend for about a week, was absolutely awesome! We went through a travel group (maybe wouldn’t do that again) but we hit most of the major areas jn a week which is impressive. If you want to go to Manuel Antonio park, get there EARLY EARLY EARLY. They only have limited tickets per day and sell out by nine ish. Our bus broke down so we didn’t get to see it and I was majorly bummed

Does anyone here have access to Genomics? I'm looking for a journal article published in 1993 that my university doesn't have access to. I have a request in for interlibrary loan but that can take a while.

Oooh this makes me excited. I'm doing research in Costa Rica this summer 😀 my SO is also half Costa Rican

Does anyone know if a summer secret Santa is happening this year like it did last year?

I ran it last year with @cdoconn but I cannot do it again this summer (boards are in a month). If someone else wants to run it in my place that’s cool, I can help answer questions and whatever.

If anyone WANTS to run it I can step down and give advice/ answer questions, or I don’t mind running it with a partner!

Just saw an injured coyote go through my yard. Non-weight bearing on right front leg.

What would you do?

Call animal control?

I would try to trap it myself and bring to our wildlife clinic, but I don't have anything big enough to safely handle an animal that size

Yeah, animal control, they can take it to a wildlife place

Update: animal control's website directed me to call MA fish & wildlife, who did not pick up their phone on a Friday :lame:

What's worse is that I have a friend who works at our school's wildlife clinic who could come trap this thing, but she needs authorization from fish & wildlife to do it, so now we're both just stuck. This stinks

I just hope it wasn't from a trap 🙁 a big river runs right behind our house so we have a ton of wildlife here and I hope my neighbors respect that...

It’s already been a super eventful day.

One patient with a malfunctioning pacemaker and implanted defibrillator had four runs of vtach and two runs of SVT within the span of, like, twelve minutes. Promptly shipped him out to bigger, better equipped hospital.

Another patient came back from surgery with huge honking ST segment depression and elevation in a few different leads. Has a history of STEMI so I’m kinda sorta paranoid about that.

Another patient started having medium-length runs of vtach following a PICC placement.

Another patient with afib RVR and short runs of vtach.

I feel like it’s just Vtach City here today. Ugh.
v-tach city sounds like a cool band name

I know in TX animal control would definitely take that call (ask me how many coyotes I've helped dart off porches)

But I saw your update that nobody is answering 🙁 is it possible to at least leave a message or call animal control and ask who to call during off hours for the department of wildlife? In my experience animal controls usually run at least a limited staff on weekends, while I'm not as sure about department of wildlife stuff (usually the bigger the governmental organization the less likely they work on weekends).

May also be possible to call the police non-emergency line and ask them if they would generate a call for whichever relevant organization? I know we got lots of calls that way as well.

@staff_wielder your comment on my post in the House Plant Hobbyist Facebook group has me rolling

Chlorophyll up in here!
Hahahaha, people sometimes! I swear it's like science is magic for them 😱 Also, I'm always pleasantly surprised at the random people I find that are also members of that group 🙂 I need some plants for the new place -- maybe a couple hanging ones -- I'll have to hit you up for ideas when I've settled in and all the boxes are put away!

Sure thing! 🙂 I only got into houseplants very recently (@cdoconn is actually the one who introduced me to that Facebook group!) but it's been a very relaxing hobby for sure! I just picked up a peperomia at the nursery the other day - I'm always excited to grow my little collection!

Meanwhile, I’m over here killing airplants.
Mine are doing really well! Although I had a couple that basically dried up and turned to dust. It's hard to stay on top of them when it's so dry here anyway and they were a little on the dry side when I got them in the mail anyway

Also a few received generous pro bono haircuts courtesy of my cat

Also same. I got some bloodless and spider plant babies from a coworker. The spider plants just kept dying, one by one. Didn't seem to matter if I put them in the bathroom further from the window or in my room closer to the window. Then the bloodleafs were doing fine until one day I apparently over watered them and they died the next day.

Meanwhile my spider plant I got from a co-worker is going crazy and is ready to be divided and re-potted

Someone stop me from looking at plants at the store as I tend to come home with 1 or 2 new ones

Wow, Beautiful! Do you have some pics of the air plants?

I've definitely done that! Also I got a little succulent as a parting gift from my former office-mate. It was doing fairly well despite my inexperience until I had to move in December (Alberta). It's still alive with lots of nursing, but my Mom adopted my plants for the summer and she tends to neglect them. I saw it yesterday and am not optimistic! Even though I hated that coworker, losing the plant is still making me kind of sad.

My air plants were going gangbusters and shooting off a bunch of little air plant pups...

...and then one day I found the whole windowsill destroyed with the plants chewed to bits, and they all died after that.

Also @staff_wielder if you are interested I just repotted a couple of aloe vera pups for my roommate that she isn't sure what to do with, I'm sure I could figure out how to ship one your way when I'm back in town. I think they're pink blush aloe veras or some similar variety - they have pink edges

They're in the bottom two pots in this image

Ah your plants!!!!!!! I love them!!! So beautiful!! Yeah, won't say no to plants at all! I need to settle and figure out how to do the set up. I'll take some pics and send them over to you and see what you think on how I should go about it all 🙂

AHHH looking to get some insight on stethoscope colors! I found out a few days ago that the SA doctors I've worked with at my previous clinic are planning on buying me a littmann cardio IV stethoscope before I leave for vet school!?! :arghh:

I've been looking at all of my color options and want to get back to them soon with my decision, and I'm stuck between two different chest pieces and wanted to get other people's opinions! I'm looking at the plum tubing with the black head piece:

Smoke chest piece: Littmann Cardiology IV Stethoscope, Smoke Plum 6166
Rainbow chest piece: Littmann Cardiology IV Stethoscope, Rainbow Plum Black, 6205

I usually don’t like the rainbow one, but it’s really gorgeous with the plum!

LOL, so Netflix has a new game show where they keep contestants up for 24 hours and then test their mind and body in games and tests. The winner gets a million dollars cash.

*laughs in anxious vet student*
I watched this with my roommate and told her that if I were asked to design a Bad Place, this show is almost exactly what I would have come up with
