Concur, go based on geography (climate, citiy amenities etc) and where you family lives (ie do you want to be closer or farther from them). You're going to live there the rest of your life, statistically, so focusing on just four years of it isn't all that useful.

Personally I don't like NYC, so that kind of makes this easy for me. But really, cost of living is better out of NYC. Live a better life with a lower cost of living. If you see yourself in one location long-term, maybe go there so you are familiar with the laws and practicing medicine in the area. Otherwise, worry about natural disasters? If one has more fellowship programs it may be a good opportunity to explore those on your home campus. Just my thoughts, but i would go MUSC.
I mean, you need to ask yourself this question in a different way then. Charleston and NYC could hardly be more different if they tried. Do you want a fast paced life in the quintessential American city where money will be tight, events will be plentiful, and the grind will be real? Or do you want a slow paced life at a very good training program in the South.Asked myself this a lot but am really not sure. So it makes things harder...
I voted MUSC based on name recognition of the program alone but the actual answer is what geography better fits you as a person. Most people I know would be miserable in either NYC or Charleston (and of course for many of those people the answer for which city is the opposite!).

Thank you all for thoughtful responses!! I will narrow down based on location then, maybe visit both if my school allows
Definitely visit both if you can. This was the standard for the longest time until COVID.Thank you all for thoughtful responses!! I will narrow down based on location then, maybe visit both if my school allows
pick the one that has more of the things you like (e.g., ECT) or less of the things you dislike (e.g., 24-hour calls).
