Rank List: When do schools know their results?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Someone in the NRMP/ERAS forum told me that they find out on the Wednesday before match day.

Programs get their list the same day you do.
They also get the unmatched info the same day you do for the Scramble.

At our match day last year, our dean already knew where the seniors had matched. Do they get it earlier in the day? I know they must get it before we do because they have time to put a powerpoint presentation together.

Wait- were you talking about the residency program or the medical school?

Ahh yes. I was talking of residency programs knowing their match results.

You guys really all should find someone willing to maintain you in a medically-induced coma until match/no-match day (only waking those who need to scramble, of course...)

My understanding is that residency programs get their match list at least a day before and then see the whole list when the students get matched (ie, they then get to see where everyone on their list matched). They would need to know in advance in order to participate in the scramble.

I was just saying that I wanted to take a nap until March 20th.

So every program will see where EVERYONE they ranked have matched??? 😕 That's a little too much, no? Why do they have the right to see it?

One west coast program I know of ranks most of the people invited for interview. Just because they want to know where the students end up.

 Does that service also come with someone willing to revise my grant for me? Somehow in calculating length of time to do grant revision - I failed to correctly estimate how distracting ranking and then waiting for the match results would be. 😛

I find this terribly distracting as well!!! It's like having a full time job of worrying.

My school sent this out and it includes information that send to just the medical school.

This email contains important information about the schedule for releasing
information during Match Week, March 17-20, 2008.
Match Week information will be provided in the following manner (all times
are EASTERN daylight times):
STUDENTS
All applicants will receive their Did I Match? information on the web and by
email at noon on Monday, March 17th, letting them know whether, but not
where, they matched. Applicants will be able to access their certified rank
order lists throughout Match Week. The Regional Match Statistics by
Specialty Report, which displays Match information organized by region and
specialty, also will be available at noon by clicking the My Reports tab.
For each specialty, the number of offered and unfilled positions is
displayed.
The List of Unfilled Programs will be available to applicants on the web
beginning at noon on Tuesday, March 18th, by clicking the Unfilled Programs
tab on the left menu bar. All applicants who are not matched, whether they
are in Active, Withdrawn, Ranking, or Certified status, will have access on
the web site to the dynamic List of Unfilled Programs with links by
specialty. As positions are filled during the "Scramble", programs can
delete them from the unfilled list. This feature helps reduce the number of
telephone calls and faxes applicants make to programs after all the
positions have been filled. The list will be updated on the web site every
hour. To promote ethical behavior, fully matched students will NOT be able
to access ANY information on unfilled programs. Applicants who matched to
preliminary (PGY-1 year only) positions will be able to view only advanced
(PGY-2) programs with unfilled positions. Applicants who matched to advanced
positions will be able to view only preliminary programs with unfilled
positions.
MEDICAL SCHOOLS
School officials will receive their Unmatched Applicants Report via the web
at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 12th, from the My Reports menu. The Regional
Match Statistics by Specialty Report, which displays Match information
organized by region and specialty, will be available at noon. For each
specialty, the number of offered and unfilled positions is displayed.
On Tuesday, March 18th, schools will be able to access the List of Unfilled
Programs (pdf download) from the My Reports menu at 11:30 a.m. The list is
not emailed to any user. You will have access to the dynamic unfilled
positions list beginning at noon by clicking the Unfilled Programs tab on
the left menu bar.
At 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19th, you can download your Match
notification letters. Your school's Match Results, the Electronic School
Match Results file, and Senior Choices by Specialty report will be available
on the R3 System under My Reports.
On Thursday, March 20th, Match Day ceremonies at medical schools begin at
noon. At 1:00 p.m., applicants will receive their Match results on the web
and by email.
The Match Outcome for All Programs, which is available to all participants,
will be posted to the R3 System on March 24th, the Monday after Match Week.
Under the Match Participation Agreement signed by all participants, it is a
Match violation to begin contacting programs prior to noon on Tuesday of
Match Week, when the "Scramble" begins. If the NRMP receives evidence that
an applicant or medical school has violated this rule, an investigation will
be initiated and sanctions may be applied as outlined in the NRMP's
Violations Policy, which can be found on the NRMP web site at
http://www.nrmp.org/res_match/policies/violations.html
Our best wishes for a successful Match!
