Given the recent discussion on Tulane's accredidation, and the concern over UCLA's probation, I thought I'd ask what everyone thought about ranking programs on probation, or those that were only given partial accredidation, etc.

My interest in it is mainly that I liked my visit to UCLA and like L.A. itself, but am wondering if it is a bad idea to match to a program on probabtion, in terms of its reputaion potentially being soured, its teaching/atmosphere not being the best (causing the probation) and its future in general.

Anyone else interview at places on probation, etc? What are your thoughts on those programs, and on UCLA, and ranking such programs? Many PDs on the trail ahev said that you should only go to "programs with full accredidation"- what's your take?

TIA

UCLA is a great program don't worry about it's reputation or its future...it will be fine. Worry about yourself and what the program was put on probation for. Work hour violations and poor attention to education as well as chiefs logging cases inacuratly because they "made a mistake". When I hear those things I hear...You'll work over 80 hours (true anywhere, they just happen to get caught which makes me think they are flagrant or flip about it), you'll learn on your own and people come here to do research not to get OR time so you'll need to fudge those numbers so you can graduate. That said, you'll have great opportunities coming out of the program. You know the trade offs so make a decision. All in all, I don't need a program, no matter how strong, thats on probation. If you do, rank it high it's your opportunity to get a brand name at a bargain price.
