I finally recieved my rejection letter from UPENN but I have to rant. I submitted my primary at the beginning of september. I never heard anything from UPENN about a secondary so I wrote it off. However, a week before the secondary deadline, I get a "reminder" email, telling me the secondary application is due in a week and to complete it asap. Well, I go to the login page to complete it asap and the login info they give me doesnt work. I tried again and again and I never could login, even after resetting the password twice. So I called the office and they told me their was a glitch in their computer system and they were working to fix it and would email me when I could login. Well it wasnt fixed until after the deadline so I got an extension to send in my app until 2 weeks after the deadline.

I got suspicious at this point because I felt that they would simply toss my secondary app out and pocket the money. I emailed them asking about this possibility but recieved on reply. I decided to hell with it and sent in the app if there was any chance at all of getting an interview. Now here I am, 5 months later and the only thing Ive heard is this rejection. Sorry just gotta vent the nerve they had in having me apply with no chance at all haha.

yea... they were out to get you.

I've heard UPenn used a lot too. Have I been misinformed this whole time?!

People use it on here all the time but that doesn't mean it's correct. Anyone I've ever talked to who actually goes to Penn (at least for undergrad, I don't personally know anyone in the MD program, but I do know a vet student) refers to it as "Penn", not "UPenn." Maybe there are some self-described "UPenn" students out there, but I haven't met them.

At my Penn interview, somebody referred to the University of Pittsburgh as "UPitt." I said, "No one calls it that. It's just Pitt. Just like how no one who actually goes to Penn calls it UPenn." Several current students quickly told me that they do indeed refer to it as both Penn and UPenn.

<-- felt like tool

I was ALWAYS under the impression that UPenn was incorrect...but what do I know

Also, please do not refer to Harvard as Harvard. It is H-Bomb, not Harvard.

EVERYBODY knows that...

Some common misnomers include:
Haaaaaaaavard
"The Big H"

And...Preparation-H.

You go to Harvard for college,
You go to Harvard for medical school,
You go to Harvard for residency,
You get a job at Harvard,
You start a family at Harvard,
and you die at Harvard.

Interesting. And I actually know many many more Pitt people and I've definitely never heard any of them refer to it as "UPitt."

yes, but I've seen MANY people on the boards and people at interviews who refer to it as that....makes me want to pull out my hair

Now do you think the formal url of a website is a more credible display of daily usage or every single article of clothing, apparel, all accessories (pens, cups et al), student id cards etc...

Also

Penn Med, Penn Law, Penn Nursing... I've never heard anyone say they go to UPenn X when referring to any of these programs.

Maybe they are all typos? 😕

"Penn" is a legitimate nickname but it could be mistaken for the crap school that is "Penn State,"- this is the reason why many also say UPenn just to make sure everyone knows they're referring to the Ivy League school.

UPenn sounds just as much like a state school and no one says this that is affiliated with the university that I've met.

just because it's not ivy league does not make it a 'crap' school...

Didn't you know? There are only two tiers of schools. Ivy and crap. Or three tiers if you talk to a HYP student... well maybe four depending WHICH of those students you talk to.

Ivy league pretention 👎

While I have and will have no affiliation with it whatsoever, Penn State is not a "crap school" ....heck at least you don't have to be escorted by a security guard around campus at night........

i don't think you understood my point. I went to a state school and certainly i don't think it's crap even though it's not an ivy. i was strictly comparing penn state and "Penn." stop being so defensive.

1. I wouldn't call Penn State a crap school. Not an ivy certainly, but not horrible.

2. Anyone who mistakes "Penn" for "Penn State" isn't very careful with their terminology in the first place. No one who has a clue would ever call Penn State "Penn."

Personally I think that the rumor has been perpetuated by Penn students to make themselves feel better for going to a 'lower-tier' ivy... For undergrad, Penn State is one of the best schools in pennsylvania...

Please tell me you picked up on the sarcasm 🙁

😀

oh yes!

I had originally written a response to tap, but deleted it. My "..." was not intended to be a response to your post. Your post made me smile

I'll call it UPenn till I die. O_O

I'm a rabble-rouser like that.

hey seraph are you going to yale this fall?

wiki recognizes the university of pennsyvania as penn. it also adds the following in the note section at the bottom: "In addition to Penn, U of P and Pennsylvania, UPenn has come into fairly common usage due to university officials establishing the domain name of the university as "upenn.edu."

but i wasn't that serious though. just love to search.

Haha I would make a joke but I think its too soon...

make it! make it! make it!

taponthecloud - I'll be going to either WashU or Penn, depending on how things pan out...whether or not I feel like jumping through more hoops for Penn.

I dunno man, I sent an intent and it didn't work out so well. The loves been a one-way street, nothing reciprocated...while WashU sent me a Valentine's Day card O_O

they sent you a VD card?😍

It was a massively sent e-card, but it was the thought that counts! 😍

They sent you a VD card? Was that in addition to a holiday card too? I wonder if they have a one card per accepted student policy, or if they love you and not me... and why.

My mom says I'm pretty. 🙁

I summon pennquaker!

He claims only Penn is official and even though the domain is upenn.edu the school should NOT be referred to as UPenn...

Oh, haha, I got the holiday card from washu med school, but the valentine's day card from the MSTP office.

I think you're pretty too *hug*
