ok, so i've decided to start a thread to simply vent about anything and everything. I have steam coming out of my ears right now :scared: and need to vent...so I will start.

Ok, so I gave my company over a YEAR's notice i was leaving (deferred vet school) and now it's biting me in my rear. Let me see if i understand this...my boss hires his two sons 3 years ago, makes them part owners and pays them ridiculous salaries in a business they are clueless about. I started the company from ground zero with him (working 60-70 hrs a week for 2 years) and 6 years later, after helping making it a nationally recongnized company, am leaving.

NOW, the sons want to complain about my payroll these last two months because i am not hair-pulling-out-crazy-busy (i've trained my staff and actually can kick back for the first time) even though they are still 2 months behind on payroll.......ARGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!! :bang:

AND, i never took a real vacation but once, don't play golf every Friday and don't have to go to kids' dance recitals, school plays in the middle of the day, and play mister mom to a sick kid even though you have a full-time stay at home wife!

Working for a very small company that is a family business is just not for me. Boss man gets it, but his silver spoon sons don't GRRRRRRRRR.

thanks guys! Misery loves company, though...so please y'all vent away. I would love to be one-upped cause this is how i feel right now :boom:

I hate it when people complain to me about being vet school (the course load, the money, the no time for friends, etc) when they know that I have tried twice and didn't get it. I would sell a kidney or give most of my liver away, or sacrifice whatever was asked to have the same problem they do. And when I offhandedly mention this they either still complain or tell me I'm lucky I didn't get in and have to put up with what they are enduring. It really causes my blood to boil!!!!

flyhi- ugh sucks u have to work with spoiled little boys. just think about your future :) i am still biting my tongue at work..just a little bit longer!!

jamr0ckin- argg that is so inconsiderate!! i mean, i think everyone who knows each other knows if a person has applied to vet school before. that is SO rude they would say things like that in front of you! talk about taking their dream for granted. i hope i dont turn into that type of person once i start school!! i cant see myself saying things like that though, i mean, i already know i'll be in debt and have a big course load, and i can make new friends. no biggie!
Good luck applying this year!! i'd stay away from those people-not supportive at all!

I am SICK AND TIRED of not being able to see and moreover I am sick of having to explain to people why I can't see even though I am wearing glasses. I have keratoconus, a condition that in its advanced stage renders my vision uncorrectable via glasses or regular soft contact lenses. I had been wearing rigid gas permeable lenses for it but they were never comfortable and I had to get the prescription changed at least twice a year, and each change required a lot of fine tuning where I had to visit the optometrist once a week to see if the latest ones fit. Well, my most recent left contact fell right out of my eye when I was playing hockey and my optometrist couldn't fit me with a new one, so he referred me to an ophthalmologist who in turn referred me to a corneal specialist. This process has taken four effing months during which the entire world has basically been a haze and my depth perception is complete crap.

I subconsciously squint all day long to have any hope of reading anything, get awful headaches, have a ton of tension in my shoulders and still just plain can't read some things because the text is too small. I can't set up PCR anymore because the wells in the 96 well plates are too small and the pipetting is too precise for me to be able to do quickly enough that the Taq doesn't warm up so I can't finish my own lab work and have to make undergrads do it. I have been playing hockey with one RGP lens in and my catching passes, picking up pucks and shooting accuracy have gone to hell which is super frustrating for a competitive person like me.

At my appointment with the corneal specialist last week I was told that there was a 50% chance that one of the doctors at the practice would be able to fit me with a hybrid contact lens (soft around the outside and rigid in the center) in my left eye. If I can't get fitted with one, the only real option left for restoring anything resembling decent vision in my left eye is a corneal transplant of some type. You know what group has the highest risk of rejection for this? Oh yeah, young females! Recovery time is highly variable and sometimes very long for a corneal transplant and rejecting the graft could pretty much occur at any time even years after the surgery.

There, how's that for a rant? I really do feel like the worst part of all of it is that nobody can "see" how awful my vision is (my left eye is worse than 20/150 "corrected") so I have to explain why I look stressed or why I'm squinting or why I didn't recognize you from down the hall no I wasn't ignoring you I promise......

I'm just hoping that the hybrid lens thing works out. My appointment is next week. :(

Okay..so I may not know EXACTLY how you feel, but I have some idea.

My vision was about as bad as yours before I got LASIK. Since then, my daytime vision is wonderful, but at nighttime it's crap. Even a year and half later, I see halos around any kind of light and still don't feel like my right eye was corrected enough. If I had to operate with only my right eye I'd be screwed.

Sorry you have to go through this...most people take seeing well for granted.

I'm not eligible for LASIK. People always say "why don't you get LASIK?"

Yeah, it used to be halos, now every light is a sort of scyth shaped streak all the time - morning, noon, night...

You may have had some topographical changes from the LASIK though. My actual problem is that my corneas are very thin and very misshapen. They have been progressively thinning for the last 5-6 years (mine have taken an unusual pattern actually, my primary condition is most likely called pellucid marginal degeneration which is very rare but it's induced the same signalment as keratoconus and thus the treatment is the same). As a result I see multiple images and light "halos." I know sometimes refractive surgery can cause similar changes so it might be worth it to you to get a computerized topography done to make sure everything's kosher.

I live far away from the actual place I got my LASIK done, so it's just been hard making time to get another check-up and let them know something needs to be done to fix this, if possible.

Thanks for reminding me I need to take care of this soon.

Nyanko, I feel you! My vision is not correctable past a certain point, and even though I wear glasses, I still can't see well. I can only use RGP contact lenses (which thankfully I can tolerate!), and it gets frustrating to have to constantly explain to people why you need to sit closer or move or if they could so kindly read the menu of the fast food restaurant to you? (As a kid I would only order the foods I memorized because I was too embarrassed that I couldn't see :( )

I'm sorry you have to endure all of that crap! My fingers are cross that something will work out for you. :)

Yipes...so i was hoping that some other rants would make me feel better, but now i feel worse  Health issues don't compare to my little episode... Nyan, i really hope your appointment goes well and that there is a viable solution for you.

Anyone else pissed off at the world?? c'mon, i know not all of you have had a rose garden of a week.....

I understand!! I was born with cataracts that I had removed when I was a baby, and then due to misdiagnosis at age 3, lost all vision in my left eye. They thought I had lazy eye but really had glaucoma. So now I wear a contact in my right eye to correct that, and then glasses over contacts for distance. The questions of ...why are you wearing glasses over contacts and the blank stares of asking to sit closer to the board/admitting you cannot read something far away...blahhh it's getting old.

Good luck Nyanko!!! I'm crossing my fingers for you and hope you come out with good news soon!!!!

Kinda just a rant at myself for being stupidly impatient. I've wanted a classic Beetle for a LONG time, and promised myself I'd buy one when I got into vet school. So after I got accepted I found this cute little convertible, fell in love and paid $6,000 for it. Damn thing has had lots of problems and every time I've driven it I've gotten stranded. I should have waited a little longer and found one that cost less and ran better... I hope the vet school dream goes much better than the VW dream:xf:

Having a rough week in clinics. We have been in the same group of 3 people for 8 weeks. We have a total of 9 weeks together. One girl is doing hardly any work. Wasn't showing up on time, keeps leaving early, didn't contribute much to our group project. What's frustrating are that the clinicians don't notice any of this. Also, some of the things she is saying about her patients - "If he dies, I won't have to come in early" - are terrible. Today she threw a fit because I told her I couldn't do her 8 pm treatments so she could leave early. I had my own colic case to deal with and so she threw a little fit. And then proceeded to try and guilt me into doing her work for her with, "Don't worry about it, I can do it" when the conversation had been completed already. Of course, later there was the awkwardness of her stalking past me and slamming doors when she saw me nearby.

dyachei I could be wrong, but dont bet on the clinicians not "seeing" or knowing what this chic is all about. If they havent personally witnessed it, Im sure the residents have and hopefully their opinions will be included come eval time. (at least here they are included in all the senior rotation evals.) We were warned straight up that our clinics grades will be heavily dependant on attitude, so dont sweat it, she's got hers coming. (Again, not there yet, but that's what senior students are telling me). Hang in there;)

Okay my major pet peeve-at least this year. Im sick of the "I rule the world and you're just here to admire me" attitude of some of my classmates. It's great for you if you can drink all weekend and then come in and bust an 100 of an exam. But that doesn't make you a better person and I don't either care or want to hear about your escapades or subsequent grades. It further infuriates me that you get awarded all of the scholarship monies (based on your GPA) and daddy is paying for your vet school education. Meanwhile, my unemployed husband and 3 kids are sacrificing everything so I can attend school. You have the maturity of a 2yr old and the complexity of a sea squirt and frankly I dont need any of your crap!

Thanks, I feel better now.

Thank you, dear thief, for taking advantage of my audacity to just chain the front wheel and frame of my bike. I enjoy that you stole my wheel from a brightly lit area in the front of a heavily populated residence hall. I hope my back wheel is making a nice unicycle for you.

I'm horrified that this person is actually going to become a vet. What are you supposed to do about working with students like this, just grin and bear it?

How would the clinicians not know she is coming late and leaving early? Do you guys round in the morning and evening? The way most of our rotations work you get there whenever you have to do get your treatments, soaps and and other department requests done by 8am. So if you could somehow do that by getting in at 7:30 you could. Similar thing in the evening you must be present for evening rounds and then we are all dismissed. Are you guys responsible for treatments after evening rounds and that is what this person is leaving on? If so there is likely a technician that is in charge of you all and is likely seeing this. And if she does this are you guys doing her treatments for her? If so just ask the lead technician for help and make sure they know it is whoever's case not yours.

And I'm sorry you are getting taken advantage of. This makes me even happier that I have had great rotationmates so far. Try to keep in mind you only have to deal with her for a few more weeks?

We round later than they expect us in. So we round at 9 but they want us here at 7:30 at the latest to take transfers from overnight. The problem is that the clinicians don't come in until rounds, and the resident is usually swamped until 8. We also round at 6 pm, even though we're expected to stay until 8. Our resident is nice, she only makes 1 person stay until 8 if we have a light load. We're still supposed to check in with her before leaving. So she's been doing her PM treatments early and her AM treatments late. For a while, she didn't have any patients, but we've had a bunch of emergencies come in and she hasn't been here, so my other groupmate and I get stuck taking them every time.

Well, my right forearm has a nice red, really itchy bump on it because some medic grabbed the wrong vial for my PPD. Instead he whealed tetanus. I wondered why it burned worse than an anthrax shot. I'm not completely going off because a. I'll be drinking bottles of 150th anniversary Guinness in 2 weeks in my living room and b. I try to stay friendly with the medics because it allows me to skip the bureaucracy when I need some quick medical support. Instead, I am settling for harassing them with humor.

For a rant more trivial in nature, how about this one..

ATTN: BIOMED ENGINEERING PEOPLE HERE FOR A SYMPOSIUM

Yes we know that our campus is pretty and Valley Hall is nice and you guys want to look at everything but please please do not just stroll slowly down the path with like 15 of you across taking up the whole thing with your heads inserted into your rectums because people on bicycles here don't stop and we will yell at you if you're in our way and expect you to move and if you don't we will shoot for the small gap in between you and the person beside you and you may not like that.

Thanks,
nyanko

Haha, I can see myself using this thread in the not so distant future. I work fastfood. It SUCKS.

Yeah, I'm sure I'll be using this thread later too, but right now the only thing I really want to rant about is soccer, which is not worthy of this thread or anyone's time.
Just wanted to say good luck nyanko! I hope everything works out for you.

First of all I can't believe how many of you have such serious vision problems! So I won't rant about how I saved money for several years for LASIK only to find out that the severity of the correction I needed and the thickness of my corneas (very thin) were a mismatch making it impossible to do the surgery. And I won't rant about the fact that I require very particular contacts for severe astigmatism that don't breathe well and live in a dry climate with very sensitive eyes such that I can't wear contacts. I'll just quietly feel sorry for myself:oops:.

But I WILL rant about how annoyed I am with a place I have been volunteering at for several years. This clinic burns through techs at alarming rates by expecting unreasonable things and generally being verbally abusive everyone, except maybe to the vets. The owners are not the vets, by the way. They have given me some great experience, and since it is a non-profit, I haven't minded working really hard for them. But what I have started to mind is that they are now treating me like an employee, complete with the verbal abuse. But today topped it all... one of the techs (who started as a volunteer a few months ago but was hired since he could work full time while I can't) has started to do some trickle down verbal abuse! Nevermind that I was doing tons of work making everyone's jobs easier, and nevermind that I was resolving an issue with a client that was the result of a screw-up by the tech earlier. Even the relief vet who I just met for the first time today was like WTF? in response to what the tech was snapping at me about. The tech did later apologize to me, but seriously? This is how you treat people that are saving you hours of work, allowing you to get home at a reasonable time instead of staying late? Arrgh. I wish I didn't so desperately need more vet experience hours, otherwise I think it would be time to make my graceful exit.

Thanks! I feel slightly better now!

gone2dogs - at least a vet hasn't directly told you that you're "worthless" when asked if you know how to do a urinalysis and you respond "no" because you've watched it before but didn't want to screw it up on your first try by yourself.

That happened about a month and a half ago when I had only been there for about a month for like 5 hours a week...

She said it half-jokingly, but it still stung.

This is the vet that I have to ask for a LOR by the end of this summer. I have a love/hate relationship with her...

Anything goes here and soccer is completely acceptable. I would like to not rant about the obvious ..... USA got ROBBED, but rather about those horns. Seriously, can you stop with them already?? It sounds like a sea of bees and is nothing short of anoyyyyyying.....

thanks

Teatime, sometimes those can be the BEST LORs! When I started my job (2 Dr SA clinic), the practice owner and head vet did NOT want to hire me. I avoided working with her for nearly 6 months because I was convinced that she hated me. And frankly, she didn't like me much.
Now she literally starts to cry every time anyone brings up that I'm leaving at the end of July. I earned her respect, and our relationship turned around. She's my main veterinary eLOR writer, and I know she's giving me a good one. Your best bet is to be as good at your job as you can be and get the vet's respect - even if you're never friends, she can speak to you being good at what you do.

I'm sick and effing tired of people making fun of my country and their culture. It's our gosh darn World Cup and if you have a problem with the fact that we have a different way of cheering than you do - turn off the TV and find something else to do with yourself!

(yes - some South Africans are bothered by them too - but mostly because people are blowing them outside of the stadiums all the time)

Nkosi Sikeleli Afrika!!!

As a South African interviewed on tv said, "Plastic horns are culture?"

geez, lighten up. We're watching, aren't we? The World Cup has been a wonderful showcase of your country and your people, and of course people are going to tease about those horns, which took a lot of getting used to.

Oh, wait, this is a rant thread....Carry on, heylodeb. :D

Nah, there is nothing more to be said about the ref and the US game, everyone knows what the outcome should have been and that's that. But oh man those horns are annoying as hell but I think I did hear singing over the horns in the last England game followed by a ton of boos. I'm so disappointed in England...and all the European powerhouses. I waited fours years to see Rooney rule the pitch and he's barely touching the ball! And don't even get me started on the French or the Spanish. And I'm sick about hearing about the tournament ball. I watch the games in Spanish and it's literally "la pelota this" "la pelota that" every five minutes. (pelota is ball in Spanish). The teams have had weeks to get used to this ball. They need to stop blaming their mistakes on the ball and start working on playing better as teams. Ok I'm done for now, but let's see how Portugal does.

P.S. I think I might one of the few, but I like the horns. I want one.

Completely and utterly insignificant, but..

I picked up my jeans this morning to put them on and there was a F***ING SPIDER IN THEM. IT WAS ENORMOUS AND IT WAS IN MY ***D*MN JEANS. And you know what this means? Lots of little spider babies crawling around in my bedroom.

So I pulled myself together, killed the thing, and went for a run instead. Now, the cleaning rampage begins, because I don't want no mother f*ing spiders in my mother f*ing clothes.

*disclaimer* I like spiders. They eat mosquitoes, blah blah blah. As long as they stay OUT of my personal space, aka the inside of my jeans, we'll be just fine.

As a South African interviewed on tv said, "Plastic horns are culture?"
What's better is the damn things weren't even invented until the 90s or so. I guess horns in general can be culture but the people claiming that vuvuzelas are their culture...ehhh, really now?

My rant: **** Verizon. **** them and their new ****ty $10 a month mandatory data package for anything but the simplest of all phones. I can't upgrade now because I adamantly refuse to pay that fee. What's worse is it scales, so if you want something like the Samsung Rogue (my choice) it's $10 a month extra on top of the regular fees for your service contract, but if you want something like one of the Android phones, that's an extra $30 a month, so tack on $360 a year extra just for your phone. **** you Verizon! I refuse, I refuse, I. REFUSE. to upgrade nor renew my contract until that mandatory data package and its blasted fee is made optional. I do not need to access the web on my phone and will not pay to do so when I don't even use it.

Is it terrible that I'm a lot more upset about Italy's draw with NZ than I am about anything to do with the US? I mean, come on! Their only goal was on a penalty kick and they tied with a team ranked 73 places below them! C'mon Azzurri!

God I agree with you. First game was fine, but its EVERY SINGLE GAME. BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ *GOAL!!!* even louder BUZZZZZZZZZ. I wish I had the capability to lower the sound of the buzz and increase the voice of the mexican commentator.

and yes, USA got robbed when everyone and their mother agrees there was no foul, no offsides during the replay. Ugh.

On another note, what do you guys think about France who might face elimination from the World Cup for a hissy fit b/w the players and the coaches?

Thank goodness this b**** is out of our lives, so I'm not as fuming as usual about her, but since there's a thread, here goes...

I work in a tiny lab with 2 faculty researchers, 2 technicians, 1 post-doc, and 1 MD fellow (plus the PI who never sets foot in the lab). The post-doc is probably the biggest nightmare this lab will NEVER forget. Because:

She is a mega dumbf*ck b****. She screams at her boss when she hears what she doesn't want to hear. This shouting match goes on for at least 30 min sometimes in the middle of our lab, making it very uncomfortable for everyone else. So the rest of us have to swiftly make an exit to another room and chill there until they're done. Once the boss leaves and we go back into the room, she corners all of us and starts bawling "I only got a PhD because I hate being bossed around, and I thought if I got a PhD, no one would be able to boss me around!"

She tells the new technician (on her first week) who had a slight cough that she should have taken the day off. The technician says that she's not that sick, and besides she hasn't accrued earned time yet. Then she goes "well, my dad in NY has cancer, and if i catch anything from you and i go visit him in the next few weeks, he's going to die!"

She also told the new technician, "no offense, but YOU should not be wearing a size small or extra-small" hmmmm....

I was talking about how I personally have no idea what my mom saw in my dad when they first started dating because based on what she told me, my dad was a terrible date. Then this b**** tells me that I don't know enough about them to make that kind of judgment. to which I was thinking "well duh... they're still happily married after 4 kids and 30 yrs of marriage, obviously something worked" But then, just after SHE told ME that I didn't know enough about my own parents to judge their relationship, she goes "I hope you don't get married to your boyfriend, because he sounds like a LOSER"

Her favorite topics are politically charged topics that have no place in the work environment (e.g. abortion), and she chastises everyone who doesn't agree with her.

Her other favorite topic is about how she hates douchebag PhDs who are stuck up about the letters they have after their name, and how she's not like that at all. However, she is the first person to bring up in any conversation she can that she should be treated differently because of her credentials. She tells our pathologist (who was doing her a favor by reading her brain slides) that perhaps she should "help" her since as an MD she doesn't have the expertise that a PhD might... Talk about insulting! Also, we have issues with environmental services bringing us biohazard bins when we need extras. Someone will call and just say "hi, can we have 10 bins delivered to room ____" and they'll say "Sure!" but for some reason it doesn't happen. B**** will then be like "maybe I should call, 'cause I think they might listen if someone with a degree called." Um... what the hell was she planning on saying to indicate that she had a degree???

She was also the dumbf*** who thought that not eating sugar was going to prevent her from getting fat. So she refused to eat anything with sugar (as in added granulated sugar). But instead she would eat a whole bag of dried mangoes in one sitting (like a whopping 1000 calories in that bag), or a whole can of macadamia nuts. But apparently she liked to bake ****. So she comes in with this tupperware filled with pieces of this nasty looking chocolate cake. She tried baking one for her friend and f*cked up so the cake ended up flat instead of fluffy. She explains this to us and goes "so I dunno how good it is because i didn't taste it, because you know, I don't eat sugar. But I thought you guys would enjoy it so go ahead and dig in." Throughout the day, we all kind of opened up the tupperware to take a look... but the thing had dog hair (she has this nasty chow that's bitten two children) all over it, sticking out of the sponge... so we all just left it there. At the end of the day, b**** was infuriated that no one ate it and goes "Fine, I'll take it to the dog park people, cause I'm sure they'll appreciate it. I guess this means I'll never be bringing anything for you people!"

She was so incompetent at her job that everyone in the lab had to come in on our thanksgiving weekend (plus many others) to dissect out embryo brains. After we finished the dissection, my boss and I disappeared to the animal facility to check on the mouse colony, and when we came back, the b**** had left with 4 people's worth of dissection set ups left out(bloody surgical instruments and all) as well as a bunch of other things for ME to clean! We even have an explicit policy in the lab that technicians are NOT there to do chores for post-docs. My boss was FURIOUS! He ended up cleaning with me and was like "why is it that we get called in on our Thanksgiving weekend because she doesn't know how to plan well, and we end up with the cleaning?"

Ugh... there are so many more of these infuriating stories, but I'ma gonna stop now. Only thing is that if it was just an abrasive personality, I could deal with it, but this chick was soooo incompetent... It was difficult when she sucked and couldn't do a thing right, and I was told to fix something for her by my boss, but I had to tip toe ever so lightly as not to offend her mighty degree.

She has a PhD in molecular biology... but she can't do a single thing! like literally. She had 1 paper published in all of her 7 years grad school + 3 yrs post-doc. And that last paper only got published because her experiments had to be done in duplicate by other people in the lab. She can't do DNA or RNA extractions (and she doesn't even notice when her OD readings are way off). She can't do PCR (in the past she's used 2 forward primers, didn't heat the lid, only ran it for one cycle, her stock primer was growing bacteria). She can't clone (she doesn't know how to pick the right enzymes, she tries to ligate things that don't have compatible ends, doesn't know how much insert/vector to use, she tried to ligate insert/vectors that both lacked phosphates, etc...). EVERYTIME something goes wrong though, she'd ask me to order super expensive reagents because she thought the stuff we were using wasn't good enough for her experiments . She also doesn't understand scientific notation, and we realized 2 years in that all of her calculations were off by a factor of 10. And everytime I'm talking to someone on troubleshooting an experiment I'm working on, and we're going through logical breakdowns of where something went wrong, she has to bust in and start suggesting the stupidest ****. and EVERYTIME, I have to find a way to politely decline her suggestion because any organism with a brain could tell that it would not help. But she would be offended anyway.

ugh. oh well. she's gone now. and as my boss says "she's someone else's problem now" but it does feel good to get it off my chest :)

Haha this is too funny. I know a girl who just graduated with a PhD who is kind of comparable to this...in that she knows nothing. She graduated still asking people to help her calculate how to dilute her stock solutions for normal use. Since she graduated all of her work is being proven wrong because she never learned to properly clone, all her protein preps and most of her vectors were obtained from outside sources cause she can't make them on her own. And yet despite all of this she is loved in the lab cause she prances around in short skirts. My fiance mentioned to his boss that he thought her work was wrong and was called a sexist. WTF is wrong with people?! I can only imagine how she's messing things up at her post-doc.

But its infuriating to know she has a PhD, she is seriously insanely incompetent. Her dissertation defense lasted....30 min!!!! thats with questiosn from her committee!! what the hell?! people suck.

but Minnerbell, I'm glad you're done with her now. She should be embarrassed by herself.

Gellabella and Minnerbelle, how do you think these people get PhD's in the first place? Sleep their way to the top......? I mean seriously I just can't fathom it. And then how they manage to get jobs later???? *face palm*

I just wanted to say that I love how many *********************'s there are in this thread, compared to our usually polite chit chat :)

I think it really sucks for France, but they should have fired the coach before the World Cup and Zidane should just go and be the coach already. :p

But I am really pissed off about Germany Vs. Serbia. That ref was yellow card happy. I heard he averages 7 yellow cards a match in La Liga, what the hell is he reffing a World Cup match for? Good job FIFA, once again, good job :smack:.

Minnerbelle, I'm just imagining a vet school interview: "I only want to be a vet so I don't have to be bossed around anymore!" LOL!

Haha! I was gonna point that out too, evilshoe. All the asterisks are coming out. :D

I don't have anything current to rant about without risking some anonymity, so...

Oh, how about this. *ahem*

LET ME IN TO VET SCHOOL ****** ****** **** *******!!!

That's all. :hungover:

I have two rants.

1. Since I lived in the dorms/a pet-free apartment my first two years of college, my parents have been taking care of my cat. In August I move into a cat-friendly apartment and can take him and they will never have to see him again. I have two younger siblings, and they have given the duty of feeding/giving the cat water to the older one since I've been gone. Every time I've been home and checked the cat's water bowl, he has had no water.

He's a older kitty, so you know, I'd prefer if he was hydrated all of the time. I've brought this up repeatedly, insisting that it's important that the cat gets water everyday. They've brushed me off like I'm overreacting and insisted that my sibling has been doing his duty daily (though it takes over 2 days for the cat to drink all of the water from his pretty sizable bowl).

I discovered he didn't have water for the umpteenth time the other day, and packed him up into his cat carrier with a week's worth of food. He is currently sitting next to me on the couch in my cat-forbidden apartment. I can't have a cat here and I'm taking a risk... but I can't in good conscience leave my animal in a situation where he is not being cared for. Not really sure what to do, since I've talked to my parents once and they are still insisting nothing is wrong.

2. One of my jobs sucks and my bosses are lame. One told me it would be a "blessing if you didn't get into vet school this year"... thanks. Because she totally knows me so well and has gone sooooo out of her way to understand my motivations and life goals. Not.

Thank goodness this b**** is out of our lives, so I'm not as fuming as usual about her, but since there's a thread, here goes...

[snipped for brevity]

ugh. oh well. she's gone now. and as my boss says "she's someone else's problem now" but it does feel good to get it off my chest :)
If it's any consolation, she's not only someone else's problem, she's her own problem.

Imagine the glowing recommendations she's never going to get.

Imagine the jobs she won't get hired for because she has a reputation for being not just crazy, but incompetent too.

Imagine the first time she gets fired.

Imagine the second time she gets fired.

Imagine as many additional hiring-firing cycles as you like.

Imagine her in 10 years, unemployed--or grossly underemployed--despite her PhD, because she can't get along with people or do the work expected of her. And she'll still be whining that she deserves better because she has a PhD.

And best of all? You don't have to live in her head. It's an ugly place to be, but she's stuck there, 24/7/365.25.

AH i know! i have t-mobile and my contract is up very soon but all the phones i want require a $29.99/month data service!! my parents pay my phone bill (we're on a family plan, thankfully) but they've said they can't afford an extra $360/year just for internet on my phone...since we only pay $10 total for unlimited texting/picture messages on all 5 of our lines. which i totally understand but i can't afford to pay myself either.
it sucks because i really want a cool new phone but can't have one =[
