Very minor rant: I don't have a locker yet at school because the person who had it before me hasn't removed their lock and the school hasn't gotten around to cutting it off. Normally I wouldn't be so annoyed, but in anatomy lab we aren't allowed to bring anything in so I have to either leave my stuff in the hall or beg another classmate to share lockers (half-sized lockers, mind you).

My jaw hurts, and my throat hurts, and my head hurts and I'm hacking up a lung. 🙁 I hate being sick.

Pretty sure this is all just revenge for me not paying close attention in immunology, rofl.
 
Hedgiehog: I'm really sorry you're in that position. I feel like I've been there with so many shelter dogs. I did adopt one with a less than ideal temperament and it ended really, really badly (for legal reasons I'd rather not get into it here, but feel free to PM me if you want the story). I just want you to know that committing to a lifetime with a very large dog with aggression is NOT something you should feel like you have to do. He may well act this way out of the shelter and you will always worry that he will hurt someone (and maybe he will). You got him another chance, which is awesome of you, and I do hope he comes around with the behavior work. But you don't owe him 10 years of worrying and micromanaging so that he doesn't bite someone... adopt him if you want him as your dog, not because you don't want him to die. As you know too well working in a shelter - there will be plenty of dogs with safe and stable temperaments that will be on death row too, that you won't be able to save in the future if you already have a dog. And honestly, if he is that afraid that he feels like he has to bite someone, it may not be a good quality of life for him either. I'm sorry for all the unsolicited advice... I just really sympathize with you. Best of luck and hope he comes around :luck:
 
Stupid freaking U-Haul!

Weeks ago, I booked a 6x12 trailer for $20 for my move on the 31st. I called on Monday to confirm it. "Oh yes, we have your reservation, we'll be all ready for you on Friday!" Today, they call my mother (the reservation is in her name) and tell her "Oh, we don't have a 6x12 trailer anywhere on the island, all we've got a 5x8 or you can get a 26ft truck for $40." Um, so, why did you tell me you have the reservation if you can't actually fill the reservation? And no, I don't want to pay $40 for the truck, because I don't need that much space. And no, I don't want a 5x8 because it's not big enough to do everything in one trip. :bang:

I think what's dumb is that:

They didn't ask me any questions during my interview. She rambled about duties, policies, vet school... I had to interrupt several times to try to tell them something about myself.

They had me in to "shadow" the receptionists. I can't work the computer so obviously I was no help. I just stood around and asked questions. When that got awkward, I asked if there was anything I could do. So I put away files.

They didn't contact my references. T or L would have told me. T did email me to say that my other job called him.

I was just thrown off. I was under the impression that they were desperate for staff. They practically forced me to apply to the receptionist position (originally they asked receptionist or assistant... I said assistant because I have more experience with that).

The whole thing makes me feel kind of weird.

But... I've encountered these problems before trying to volunteer. So I'm not surprised.

Oh well.

I hope I get the other job I applied for. Better hours anyway. And no deductions.

I am supposed to move in with the boyfriend tomorrow. I don't feel comfortable living with him if I am unemployed.

First time poster, long time lurker... *waves timidly*

Just had a total breakdown the other day and started to question why I am putting myself through all this torture and ridicule. Last cycle was my second time applying and got rejected from all but one school (got wait-listed at Purdue).

I got accepted into a Professional Master's Program (was my back-up plan), which I am attending. I am trying my hardest to keep my head in the game and put my best effort in. But, in my heart I know I want to go to Vet school, so when I let my mind wander that is all I keep thinking about.

I am applying next year... I just want to Graduate before I am 40... My boyfriend listens to me bitch and complain and obsess, but he is a computer guy and just does not understand.

😡 That is so STUPID Trema!!!!! I know you need a job, and :xf: that you find one quick but it sounds like it would have been awful to work there anyway.

Just so you know, this is my 3rd time applying. I'm 27, which isn't old at all but isn't exactly as young as some of the crop I am contending with. If you want it, you can make it happen. 🙂

Trem: the best thing you can do is cry it out if you need to, learn from it and move on. So now you've learned that some places want you to be a little more outgoing. Take that knowledge and keep it in mind. But don't let it stop you from continuing the search. Maybe you didn't get that job because something better is coming along for you.

My dog is barking her head off when I'm not home. I'm pretty positive it's separation anxiety. She's NEVER been a barker. I don't know what to do.

I grew up believing that everything happens for a reason (though I know not everyone is of that opinion). I really think we learn the most from the tough stuff in life ... and honestly, if everything went as planned and we never had bad days, weeks, or months, would we be able to appreciate when things seem to fall into place?? Doubt it.

I know it's hard to see the rainbow in the storm but I am certain everything will work out. It may not go exactly how you want it to but there is definitely something better coming and you will learn so many lessons in the mean time!

Good things come to people who work hard! Never stop putting one foot in front of the other and you'll eventually get to where you want to be :nod:

Citronella collar? Worst case scenario she'll bark through the citrus and you'll come home to a very clean, citrus-y smelling apartment! 😛

I don't believe that everything happens for a reason, but definitely believe that a door closing can mean one opening somewhere else - so boohiss on the clinic, but keep on chugging, Trem, things do end up working out when you're resourceful and motivated. 👍 :xf:
 
I thought thought about a citronella collar actually but I worry that it wouldn't deter her and she'd be inhaling that stuff too much. She's never barked. And she's been alone before. But this is a new apt.She's alone for a few hours in the morning then I have an hour to an hour and a half to spend with her then she's alone for a few hours in the afternoon. I don't get it except the new housing. I am currently taking her on a long walk to hopefully make her tired so she'll sleep. Too hot to run her. I can definitely get up earlier to exercise her but I worry I won't have tinge midday everyday. My boss said I can bring her to work at UNR but I can't figure out logistics with my classes.

Have you considered doggie daycare? One of my dogs is a rescue that was obviously not socialized as a puppy ... he's not aggressive towards dogs he's just very inappropriate meeting new dogs. And he seems so depressed when I'm away during the day. I take him to daycare twice a week with his trainer. It's helped a lot with his socialization and I feel fine with him being with her because if he acts up she corrects him. Being at daycare all day totally wipes him out ... I kid you not, he sleeps for 24 hours straight after coming home (well he wakes up to eat and potty)! The daycare he goes to is like being at dog park all day, but under the watchful eye of the trainer 🙂

But what is the cost? Not everyone has space in a budget for daycare of any kind.

Yeah I definitely can't afford it. Sigh. I never thought thus would be a problem with her.

Ok. She seemed tired. And I don't have TV or an antenna yet so I put a DVD in for her. We'll see how it goes. :xf:

What about leaving her with a frozen Kong or cleaned out marrow bone with a little peanut butter in it? If she's food driven it could keep her occupied for a while ...

Yeah she usually is. I've thought about that too. She's not toy driven at all. One of the reasons I am pretty certain it's separation anxiety is that she won't touch any of the treats or her food while I'm gone. Then she goes to town when I get there. So it would have to be something super yummy. Hmm, I bet I could stuff a kong with lunch meat then freeze it........

On the up side she DOES some to work with me when I work at the vet hospital. I am also seriously considering clomicalm or the like ONLY for an adjustment period. I have never had an animal on anti anxiety meds though so I am super hesitant.

I've heard good things about the thunder shirt (http://www.thundershirt.com/) and if you buy it at Petco they allow you to return it if it doesn't work for your dog.

Think of something totally irresistibly yummy for her and stuff it in a toy then freeze it. If it's challenging for her to get out it will keep her occupied for longer. And maybe she'll learn that you leaving is a good thing because she gets a treat? Or maybe that's just wishful thinking :luck:

No NOT AT ALL. She was a breeding dog at a puppy mill and when the found her she was in a filthy 2'x3' crate. When I got her she would panic beyond reason, I mean peeing her self and screaming like she's in pain, if she was even near one, so I didn't try.


I am REALLY hoping this is just an adjustment period.

Huh, that thing is interesting. And I get a discount at Petco too due to a professional relationship.

I don't think so but I wonder if it would hurt her back. She is my little back doggy. Had sx for 5 ruptured discs 3 years ago. (probably why I'm so poor now 🙄 lol)

It shouldn't abs. it's just a compression shirt. Be gentle putting it on and she should be fine.

Thunder shirts are a good idea...though you don't have to go out and buy the brand. There's nothing special about the material. You could get a too-small T-shirt and it will work the same. Thunder shirts seems to work in about 50% of cases (same principle as in baby swaddling).

As far as medication, it may be a good idea to talk to your vet and see if you can try it just to get through the transition. Anti-anxiety meds are NOT sedating (ie, not something like Xanax, for example). Prozac, clomicalm, amitryptiline, may be something to look into!! Most of the time, it's a short-term thing and not a long term medication. Good luck <3

Yeah, the vet I work for is one of my best friends 😀 I just texted her and she said we could try a few days to see how it goes. I'd rather not med my dog. So I will probably buy the shirt first. I don't know if it work. She wears shirts already since she has exceptionally shirt legs lol.

Anyway, thank you guys for all your tips!!! GRR. I can give advice to people all day at work but when it comes to my own pet I get all stupid.

I feel like crap..... ugh..... my eye is doing better and looks to be healing - still some pain, but I think it is on the mend....

anyhow taking a new painkiller.... took it when I got home today at noon and all was fine, probably cause I ended up taking a long nap, so didn't see the effects.... took it again at 4 pm and have felt crappy since... at first I was dizzy and nauseous.... made some toast and crackers.... dizziness went away, but stomach just been in pain all night... went to whiskey tasting as been looking forward to it all month.... didn't have much, but probably not the best idea.... my stomach feels like ****e.....ugh.... and my head is still floaty a bit.... don't think it is the whiskey as I really didn't have much...... I have not had stomach issues in jeez I dunno months, so it has to be the pain meds....won't be taking anymore of those 🙁

Yuck, nausea/vomiting is the worst thing ever in my book! Ask for a different pain med ...
