Your young neutered male cat does not have a history of recurrent UTIs, your male cat does not have a history of recurrent UTIs, YOUR MALE CAT DOES NOT HAVE A HISTORY OF RECURRENT UTIs!!!!!!!!

If he didn't have UTIs, then why was he put on antibiotics (quinolones to be exact) every time he started having bloody urine, you ask?

How about your vet is a douche who really wants to cause antibiotic resistance in this world?

Oh no no, my bad. I'm the dumb one. Clearly I don't know what I'm talking about. Cause you know, if your cat seriously had 10 UTIs over the past 3 years, I would have had an ultrasound/rads done on your cat at least 2 years ago to rule out cancer or stones or something. Has your cat ever even had a urine culture ever? No? But only stupid vets need diagnostics. Good ole smart antibiotic vet just KNOWS, and can tell by looking at the cat that he has an infection. The antibiotics clear it up right away each time...

Graaaawwewrrrrrr

This is frustrating.

At the last clinic I worked at we had a client who would bring her cat in every month or so saying he had a UTI or was blocked. He was fine every time. Meanwhile she was always messing with his penis (I'm not sure what that was all about). Thankfully the vets always sent her on her way.

I don't mind people bringing their cat in if they think they might be blocked. I would much rather make sure they weren't. But 95+% of the time, it ain't a UTI.

Now out $370 because UIUC automatically charges you for student health insurance. Tried to find out about waiving/refunding that, but apparently I needed to have done that by June 12, before any of this was even billed to me. Not sure if automatic insurance is a UIUC thing or a veterinary/grad school thing, but maybe informing me about it would have been nice. :yeahright:
it happened at SGU (only it was like $2-3k) but they gave you many many notices prior to auto-enrollment. you had to be pretty out of touch to not realize that would happen (i.e. not reading emails).

I hate knocks at my door. I need a foreboding sign that implies horrible, unimaginable things will happen to anyone who thinks they need to try and sell/talk to me about anything.

Also, I keep getting dead fruit flies in my whiskey and coke.

😡😡😡😡😡

we are not allowed to send anything out on ER here, so when people come in needing a culture, i get to be ghetto and send urine home with them in a tube and tell them to take it to their rDVM (righhhhttt sure they do).

I love being able to do in house cultures. It's cheap for us and the client, and we eat the cost of the in house culture if we need to send the plates out for C&S.

I need to look into in house cultures. I have never done it, but if it's cheaper for the owners than the send outs, might be worth it.

About a third of the price here. Definitely works out nicely. There are still a fair number I send to lab, especially chronic ears/skin where I'm expecting resistance and eight thousand different organisms, but in house is amazing for most other things. It's nice to be able to get sensitivities even in the little money cases.

The waiver for fall semester doesn't start until August 19th!! I freaked out about that too and emailed them a couple weeks ago. So you will still be able to opt out and save that $370!

Do you know brand name or type? I'm going to look up some costs and talk to my associate tomorrow

Yeah, super easy to do. It's like <$30 for the client instead of like >$150. I hated not being able to run cultures due to cost before. Even if we don't get a C&S due to cost, I really like being able to run these regularly for the isosthenuric and diabetic pets.

Can you pm me what brand or where your clinic gets it from? I'm going to do some cost analysis tomorrow

OMG MY HERO!! Where do I go to get a waiver? The insurance provider website doesn't let me access it anymore.

:clap::bow:

Walking my dog today (the doofus in my pic) and I see a guy with three angry barking little dogs on extendable leashes coming my way. 2 Shih Tzus and a Pekingese it looked like. Being a wary dog walker, I elect to cross over to the other side of the street at the intersection and continue on my merry way.

Well the Pekingese was having none of it, barking and growling, he darted into the middle of the street coming after me and my dog (who looked but pretty much ignored him), and then the retractable leash broke. The dog comes barreling at us, and his owner and the 2 yapping shihtzus after him.

At first I just stopped, thinking the dog would just bark and sniff Duke (my dog) and the guy could catch him and be off. But the dog doesn't do that, instead he growls and darts in and basically attacks my dog, completely unprovoked. My 50# dog yips, jumps aside, and then the hackles went up and he started growling, not his usual play growl, but a "back off or I will be forced to hurt you" growl. The Pekingese is now darting around in circles, growling at Duke, while I'm clutching his collar trying to keep my dog from killing the little **** and also dancing around trying to keep myself between them (and seeing if I can aim a good swift kick at the attacker). Meanwhile the owner is standing off yelling at his dog to come (it doens't) or to sit (my dog does a couple of times, his doesn't). His other two dogs are busy yapping their little heads off but thankfully don't get involved. Finally (read, 30 seconds later, but felt like forever), he manages to grab his dog and I practically bolt down the sidewalk with mine. An apology? A shamed face? Nope, nothing, the guy just walked away.

Halfway down the block I see a woman with a lab mix wagging its tail at us. She witnessed the altercation, and hurriedly crossed the street as we came down it. I wanted to shout at her, "it wasn't my dog's fault, that little ****forbrains attacked him!"

We made it home without further incident and as far as I can tell the other dog never drew blood.

Teach your dogs manners people, or next time the GSD your Pekingese picks on will rip his yappy little head off, or his angry mom will.

As a GSD owner, I can attest to the validity of this story.

My GSD has been made to look like the offender time and time again. You people with little dogs- it's not cute, it's not darling, it's a sign of an untrained and poorly disciplined dog! It does not matter what size the dog is!

I'm glad your GSD remained a good ol' boy and stayed relatively calm, and patient.

My family and I have been invited to my neighbor's wedding. It is their second wedding, but their first legally recognized wedding, as they are a gay couple. My mom is refusing to go, because even though she likes them, and considers them friends, she has religious conflicts with their marriage. She told me she hopes they aren't offended that she's not coming, and I told her if her reason for not coming was because she believed marriage was between a man and a woman and therefore she felt she was unable to attend, then they have every right to be offended. I also told her she could hold her beliefs and still attend the wedding, besides it wouldn't be the first wedding she ever attended that she felt shouldn't happen for whatever reason. I'm really upset with her about this, and what am I supposed to say when they ask me why she didn't come?

You believe they have "a right" to be offended? What is it with everyone getting offended about EVERYTHING these days?

If your mother disagrees with their understanding of what marriage is, then let her disagree. Marriage has been understood as a union between man and woman since the beginning of time- why would you expect someone to believe it as anything other than that after it's been understood as such?

I would not hold it against your mom. I think she is standing up for what she believes in.

No one can make you feel inferior but yourself.

🙂

Really, it has been? Are you sure?
I think you are mistaking the beginning of "time" with the beginning of certain religions. But, hey, it happens. People seem to forget there was time before the bible was ever around.

And yes people do have a "right" to be offended at a friend not coming to their wedding. I'm sorry, but that does hurt people emotionally to suggest it shouldn't is a bit absurd. Maybe they won't be offended as much as disappointed, but you can't sit there and state that people don't have a right to feel an emotion that anyone would feel if a friend decided to refuse to come to an event that is special and important to you.

Y'know, I love the Eleanor Roosevelt quote but the rest of the comment not so much. I'd be really hurt if people didn't come to my wedding because the guy or girl I was marrying was a certain gender, was black, was Asian, was Hispanic, etc. Regardless of their personal beliefs, if they loved me and supported my relationship prior to the wedding, they should be able to stomach one day.

How dare they right? Geez lighten up.

Your neighbor and friend doesn't believe that your relationship with the love of your life is legitimate and should not be considered the same as those between straight couples. Big deal. Why should anyone ever be offended by that? People are so dumb. Always making conservative non-marginalized privileged folk feeling uncomfortable with their offendedness about EVERYTHING.

I wanted my last can of coke. Not the $0.50 you arbitrarily decided was a fair value and chucked into the 12-pack that had my name on it in three places. I can't legally leave the building during my shift to go get more, and I'm here 14+ hrs. So don't take my stuff. Or at the VERY least, get off your lazy ass and replace it when your shift is done, rather than toss me a slap-in-the-face $0.50.

Don't want your money. Want my caffeine.

And furthermore ....if you, the tech, want to get on my bad side ... Then yes, by all means, please tell the owner that if it were YOUR dog you wouldn't go to surgery after I've diagnosed a foreign body and recommended immediate surgery. Sure. Because that kind of undermining of my recommendation is exactly what I want. Especially in a dog that has a clear foreign body. Sure. Let's wait and make sure it goes from enterotomy to r 'n a. Cool. Carry on.

(Yes, there are many times I give a client an option - or even encourage - waiting a while on fluids to see how things are moving. This was definitely not one of those times. Regardless of what Dr. Tech thought.)

This would make me livid. I need my diet pepsi.

Our sensi-disks are BD brand. The dispenser is so old and broken I can't find a brand on it. I think we order the disks and the agar plates from MWI. We have blood and a few different types of split plates.

It's almost 10PM and it's still 88F with the humidex (73F with 90% humidity)....

My mom sent me a picture of the temperature gauge in her car the other day.... 117F. That broke a previous record high for that particular day.

I so miss my AZ desert home... nothing like nice, warm weather. 🙂

And it's fine for people who like it or are used to it or have air conditioning. For me, I'm hot and sticky and the fans aren't cutting it.

Jiffyscript Inc. holds the rights to MassFTP - i.e. Teleportation - from way back in the late 80s. Nice try, ya punks. We even had a grand plan to set up our base on the moon where earthbound govt agencies couldn't more easily steal our tech.

Pretty sure we had at least a dozen good beer discussions about it.

I currently have four culture plates in the incubator from male cats with lower urinary signs. Surprise surprise, not a single one is growing anything. And every single owner insisted it was just a UTI and didnt need to talk about long term management, diet, ultrasound, etc because the girl at the pet store/breeder/groomer's office said antibiotics would be all they needed and they just dont understand why I want to charge them hundreds of dollars for useless tests.

Ordered all new stainless steel appliances that were delivered today to our house. Turns out our kitchen is not up to code and is just one big fire hazard. Also, the fridge door wont open all the way unless we cut back some drywall....hopefully its not a load bearing wall. Gah, this was supposed to be exciting, not another headache.

Wasn't feeling particularly social today but there was an informal get together at a bar to meet new classmates. I went with some friends and had a panic attack while there.

Tuesday morning: No water in the house
Tuesday evening: No internet at the house
Wednesday evening: Still no internet at the house
No, that's okay, I don't need internet to do any schoolwork at all or Skype my boyfriend or watch Netflix ( 😛 ), totally fine. Tried to call the internet company last night, but they needed our landline phone number or the account number, of which we know neither. Tried to call the landlord to find out these numbers, no answer. Just came to campus 2.5 hours early this morning to try to get SOME work done... It's day 3 of the new semester and I already feel behind. Awesome.

Never sign up with Just Energy. I received a forwarded letter today about a $50 termination fee they were demanding because I moved and have a new gas account. Apparently I signed up in January of 2012 and their contracts are 5 years (something they must conveniently neglect to tell you in their sales pitch because I wouldn't sign up for a five year anything at a rental property). Bitched about their ****ty business practices and their overwhelmingly negative reviews at the BBB, Consumer Reports, etc. and at least got them to agree to reduce the remainder of my contract to six months. Demanded all information in writing, especially the expiration date of whatever "contract" I have with them. We'll see if they actually comply. The customer service guy actually said, "All of those negative reviews are falsified." Laughed hysterically.
