Ouch, I know how you feel (sort of). I used to commute via bike in undergrad (when I moved off campus, but didn't have a working car there yet). My worst accident came one day when some workers were mowing around the levee, and grass flew into my eyes as I was making a downhill turn...a split second and I totally ATE it. My legs took almost all of the damage though. It was pretty embarrassing (though really no one was around...except for the mowers who didn't seem to notice or care). There was blood everywhere and I ended up not making it to my first class because I had to stop and clean up the wounds with my water bottle and more once I got to a restroom. Between bike spills and other such accidents my knees are so wrecked and scarred  I can't imagine doing that in a busy intersection though! I usually walked the bike in really busy pedestrian areas because I feared bumping into someone.
I've never fallen off a bike in front of anyone other than my sisters.

My worst bike incident was getting hit by a biker. This story has several parts that tie for the 'best part:'
1. I was the only person, other than the biker, on the sidewalk
2. The biker was texting
3. I think I flew forward a good 5-7 feet
4. I had to throw away the jeans I was wearing, they got so ripped from sliding down the sidewalk
5. When we first started dating, my boyfriend told me a story about how he saw a girl get hit by a biker on the other side of the street. Yes, he saw me get hit by a biker before we even knew each other. Okay...maybe that one should win. I still laugh when I think about that.

Edit: My personal favorite bike accident story is @neocia 's 😀

Super vague, but a coworker said something to a client that could have legal ramifications and I am just so angry at her right now. This should not have been a thing, but could now become a thing because of how she handled it. Grumble. She's off tomorrow so hopefully if the client calls and is angry about it someone else can diffuse the situation she created.

🙁 Hopefully the client is understanding. Did your boss call to apologize for the employee or do any damage control?

He wasn't there unfortunately, and she didn't say something inflammatory or rude to a client thankfully, she just said something that makes a situation that wouldn't have been a situation a situation. I that realize sentence is very circular and makes no sense at all haha

I can pm you more info, just don't want to put it all over the Internet in case it becomes a thing 😛

Was it just a foot-in-mouth thing, or did she do it spitefully? One of the techs I've told stories about used to do this kind of stuff intentionally. Things like "Oh, your dog was fine until the doctor decided to ______. I don't know why she did it, don't ask me. You'll have to talk to her about it." Like, she would make a little cut or irritation from pre-surgery shaving seem like some serious offense and get clients worked up about it. I really hope I never have to deal with an employee like that.

Oh, no it wasn't about a clients pet or anything! It's a weird situation, and hard to explain without going into it all.

I feel like my pets decide together when to have issues. When I left for the weekend, my rabbit was being off and not pooping a lot (cue the anxiety). Cats were fine. I get home, and casually watch my dog drain a bowl of water. Turns out that my mom has been refilling her bowl 2-3 times a day for a few weeks now, which isn't normal for my dog. I had to explain that changes like that should turn into a vet visit and to please let me know about them. I get back to my apartment. Rabbit is in good spirits, one cat is fine, my big orange cat has a complete voice change. And he either got clawed or bit in the back of his neck during a wrestle match. It's superficial, but the voice change is what freaks me out. I'll have to ask my roomies if he was extra vocal this weekend...maybe he just lost his voice. Hopefully it's nothing, but he's got an appointment coming up with a doctor that specializes in paw repair so I might as well kill two birds with one stone.
Do not be that client 😛 trust me, that specialist may so oh sure no problem if love to look at/discuss unrelated problem, but they are groaning about it behind your back because that's what general practitioners or other specialists are for 😉 [I'm looking at you client who brought me non-emergent eye discharge of 1 years duration because you suddenly decided you wanted a second opinion...yay for ophthalmology still being in the building!]

The vet is a GP. She just is competent in paw repair as well. I ended up taking him to his more regular vet anyways because I was worried, lol. Antibiotics and lysine powder.

I have had a bunch of running around/traveling to do this week so I arranged for my cat to stay with my parents just for a couple days. Coming home to an empty apartment tonight was the saddest thing ever. 🙁

You know what sucks? Presenting my thesis a second time.
You know what really sucks? My presentation being scheduled for 8:20 AM.
You know what really, really sucks? Like 20 people are probably coming.

Every single part of that sounds horrible. Why do you have to present it twice?

I already did the defense. Done. There's a day for research presentations on our campus, kind of like a mini conference, and my advisor is making me do it for a grade, even though it's really optional. Oh boy. It's only a 15 minute talk and should be a breeze compared to the 30 minute word vomit I managed to pull off last week. I'm just tired, man.

Got a tdap vaccine yesterday (and a tb test) so my arm is super sore today. Husband and I both woke up not feeling well and with a sore throat. Fell back asleep for what I thought I was a little bit. Just woke up at 1pm :arghh: and missed my last day of class ever. Oh well, at least everything's podcasted...Have 4 finals and a bunch of quizzes to to take in the next 5 days but hopefully I can get enough rest to keep whatever's making me feel ill at bay. Esp since clinics start in 11 days! 😱

Found out one of the horses at my barn was euthanized this morning. A couple of months ago she got kicked really hard, and they found severe nerve damage in her shoulder. She was a very sweet horse. 😢

Went to go sign for that perfect house we found. "Oh, sorry, you have three cats? Our pet limit is two for this location."

ARE YOU KIDDING?! The owner of the real estate agency gave us the tour and said there wasn't. So annoyed. Now we have three weeks to find a place and sign for it.

Because having 3 cats is just sooooooo much different than having 2.... :annoyed:

These two pet rules are bogus. The doctor I work with is currently living with like...5 unauthorized pets. Haha. Breed restrictions kill me too. I want a pit puppy so bad. Same doctor told me to claim it was an emotional support animal. Oh, and to pretend the cats don't exist

We were just so relieved to have been done with it, you know? It was a great place. We've sent emails on on 3 other locations, so please send us any spare luck you have laying around :highfive:

If we can't find any other feasible place we can all agree on, I'm going to leave my cats off my end of the lease and just sneak them. The agent said "Oh, it's the condo association that sets the limit." I don't understand how that's a thing if you own the condo, but okay. This is the same landlord that wouldn't allow any new pets after we signed and wanted to physically meet each of our pets before they agreed to let us have the house :eyebrow:

He ended up coming out of his office (because I was telling the person that I was 100% certain this is not what we were told). He apologized, but he must have misunderstood. How do you misunderstand "We have three cats and a rabbit" ?!??!

one of my internmates has 8 cats and a medium dog at her "2 pet" rental

Lol, now you guys are just making me feel ridiculous. I just worry that the worst would happen if I tried it (based on my life in general, this is what I expect haha).

I don't think you're being ridiculous. Sometimes it's better to be safe than sorry, especially with roommates.

I had my current rental place put an addendum on my lease about having one rabbit at no extra rent or deposit fee because I don't trust landlords to make good on verbal agreements.

That's actually a good idea. I'm going to suggest that from now on. I had this exact issue with my rabbit this year.

I was talking/ stressing to my mom last night cause I missed her and was having a rough night, and I explained to her everything that's going on with my classes/ two super hard tests tomorrow and I explained that I was just exhausted. She goes "well then go to sleep." And then today she's like "see sometimes momma does know best" like okay, you definitely didn't come up with that on your own. Like you essentially just said "people need sleep" like okay mom, thanks for the confirming research that was done a long time ago.

Well, she still had to remind you to do it, didn't she? 😛

My one hour nap turned into a 6 hour one. Again. I hate sleep apnea. The complete exhaustion builds up and I get to a point where I can't function and need to sleep more.

I'm going to try again to qualify for a CPAP machine this summer. My insurance wouldn't help me out last time.

Of course, the 3 other houses we sent emails on are all signed for, even though they are clearly marked "AVAILABLE!!" on the website.

Pretty sure I'm just going to sneak my cats. 100% over it.

Add on rant: My friend keeps sending me Snapchats of his rabbit running around on tables, counter tops, and other terrifying surfaces. He keeps asking me for rabbit tips, and I keep telling him he needs to be more cautious. I get that he's cute and likes to be close to you, but all it takes is one slip right off the edge. His most recent picture was the rabbit riding shotgun with no carrier or box. :nailbiting: I'm also super paranoid about my rabbit...but if he had to slam on his brakes, he'd have a bunny ping pong ball.

I just saw someone selling a desk on Facebook that I gave them for free a year ago...I feel like that's bad karma haha (i found it free at our apartment complexes dump and then gave it away free when I was done with it. Come on, pay it forward!)

I feel like I would want to post on that and be like, "Did you install gold-lined drawers or something?" or similarly snarky...heh.

Went to buy a car today and it had been sold literally as we were pulling in to the dealership 🙁

There is nothing about applying for scholarships that isn't frustrating.

Well, unless you get one. I really wish we had more information on how they choose recipients so we could better tailor our applications to each scholarship.

Seriously, I think it is rigged. There should be a limit to the number one can get. I'm not sure how much more financial need I can have and do well in school, but not win one. I just happened to get a small one this year, but was one that didn't require an application, so applying to 26 was a complete waste of a day.

Congrats, that's awesome!!! I applied to the 10 I thought I had somewhat of a chance to...I'm also OOS so that eliminated a lot right off the bat. I don't want to be that person who is pissy about not getting money, but it's hard not to be bitter when you have a good reason to believe that these scholarships are not always given to those with 'need.' Our class was told we had a slim to none chance of getting scholarships anyways, but it seems like a lot of us did so I guess that's good.

Do people win multiple a lot? Per year, or do they just win one every year?

What school do you go to? There were a lot of complaints like that at my school this year, from the first and second years.

She's at Illinois too! Were they just complaints, or did they hold some merit? Idk that our system is actually rigged, but i've heard a lot that the same people get money every year.

Were these need based scholarships though? All the scholarships I had applied to in vet school were merit based, and the application did not involve writing about how poor you were.

Even if they were, good luck winning the race for being someone with the highest need, cause other than for people who have their entire vet school paid for, I feel like everyone is living on loans and are in "need" if you put it that way, other than the exception for a few people in very unfortunate situations. For a vast majority of people in vet school, the reason they're poor and in the hole is due to their personal choice of going to whatever vet school they're going to. The fact that anyone's even in vet school is a luxury. It's not schooling people go into to give themselves a better life. It's
Schooling people go into out of passion.

Between first and third year, I won seven and was a finalist for another. A lot of it had to do with the fact that I made myself stand out by doing a ton of research from the minute I set foot in vet school and when I graduated, and was always in the top quartile of my class. I'm sure people groaned about the same people getting scholarships, especially since at least half of these were publicly announced (and the other names chosen in the same school never surprised anyone). But at the same time, I probably spent as much effort on my research as I did on vet school for a majority of my four years. So when it came to scholarships that were looking for academic merit where research activity was taken into account, I happened to be high on the list. It may not be fair, but I don't think scholarships are necessarily about fairness. I just happened to be lucky and had an interest that aligned with many scholarships available.

Did the single mother in my class who's getting by in school deserve money more than me for the effort they're putting into becoming a veterinarian? Probably. But unfortunately, that's not what the committees were looking for when it came to the scholarships I applied for.

We have one application here, unless I'm missing something...you input GPA, rank, professional interests, and current debt load. There are the occasional scholarships from organizations like AQHA or more local organizations. I wish I could say I had a more vested interest in cattle and equine, because the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is offering two $50,000 scholarships to 2nd year students here at the college. 🙁 That'd be some damn good money to have.

Different schools do it different ways. Some have one institutional committee that has one centralized application that parses out scholarships to its students, which it looks like you have. Others have students apply separately to each scholarship.

At your school though, are the drug company and the avmf type national scholarships also included in that one application? Those usually have applications with specific questions you need to answer.

People don't advertise it a lot, but there just seems to be people you can count on getting scholarships because they have a good story. However, there are some that are pretty small amounts, so multiple still wouldn't necessarily get you far.

I think they give us links to those scholarships at least, but we have a pretty large database of in-house scholarships. The award luncheon for recipients was just yesterday. Our committee is made up of people that know us personally, and you'd think that wouldn't be the case. We have to apply to each scholarship separately, but most of the prompts are nearly identical. So when McVet applied to 26, she submitted 26 times. Really annoying after a while because you have to save the same essay under 26 different names, according to our instructions.

Oh I totally agree. We all have need. That's why fourth years here tend to make up the majority of recipients, they have the most need just because they have the most loans out. The one scholarship I'm questioning was need based. I think the majority of our scholarships were need based, required you to be in a specific county/have specific interest, or some other requirement. Very few were "good academic standing" or something less stringent like that.
