RANT HERE thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
🙁 Sorry to hear. If it's any consolation, you sound like you're approaching it in a much calmer, more rational way than most would.

Thanks. I am trying to remain rational about it and take in the teachable moment here. I know that going through this will make me a better doctor. My vet is amazing! He patiently answered all my questions and discussed options with me. I kept it together almost the whole visit. When we started talking about aggressive treatment vs. hospice care, I finally broke down, he cried a little too. I want his "bedside manner" when I finally get my DVM.

I had the same thought and was like, "Yikes! She must REALLY be having a bad day!"

Disclaimer: I am brain dead at the moment.

I saw c. albicans and could not for the life of me remember what it was.

"Candida" was not the "c" word I was thinking of, when it comes to "down there" things.... IF you know what I mean 😉

I just got this now after pondering it since it was posted. OMG would that be a bad day. And, thanks for the delayed LOLs 🤣

so pissed, but still proud of my team...it was a great game.

I don't know what to do. I don't want it to be a quality vs. quantity of life issue. I don't want to be selfish and put him through procedures that aren't going to buy him much time. At the same time, I don't want to stop fighting if there is a chance he can pull through this with a few healthy, happy years ahead of him. Has anyone else been through this??? Any tips, suggestions, moral support much appreciated. Not looking for medical advice, I've discussed this from every possible angle with my vet.

We put down my 13yo Lab in Feb 2010 for a splenic tumor. It could have been removed through surgery, of course, but at that age and with such an awesome life behind her, we decided it would be her time to go. Having worked in small animal, I've seen the old dogs that go through exploratories and it isn't always the best way for them to go. We've also opened dogs up to remove a spleen and found cancer everywhere inside and had to euth on the table. I didn't want to go through the surgery (the cost, the treatments, the rehab) and have it end up being that she never really recovered and felt miserable. I was sad since it technically "could" be fixed, but I think we made the right decision for her.

See what the radiologist has to say, see what the biopsy has to say. I think the answer will present itself to you - either way a tough call.

Sorry to hear about both of your dogs🙁, but that redhead, I think that's really good advice. I hear about all these cancer cases that come to the VTH and how this treatment or that helped the dog live another 4-6 months and what a success... but I can't help but to wonder about the quality of life for the last 4-6 months of the animal's life. I would never fault someone for trying, but I don't think euthanasia is a bad idea in many cases for the animal's sake. I think it's important to remember that it's going to be a gamble either way, so I don't think anyone should have to suffer wondering if they'd made the right choice anytime there's a murky prognosis.

Hang in there Maddiegirl

My husband is sitting here telling me I'm being selfish for wanting to study in the peace and quiet of our bedroom instead of the living room where he is playing music, playing video games, and yelling at the TV. He said "big deal" when I said "it's finals time. I have 9 tests and a quiz in 10 days. I have to study." I suggested he go call some friends to hang out. WHY DOESN'T HE GET IT. This isn't our first finals week together but it is the first time he has gotten like this. I blew off studying last night to watch football with him but he doesn't count that. GRRRRRR Men are stupid.

Heya - SO sorry to hear about this. I think that you've gotten some spot on advice already, thus I'll add only this: Go with your heart and your gut. They'll let you know what's right in the end. Hang in there best you can. I'll keep you and your buddy in my thoughts.

Yes, it was a GREAT game... Sorry, but, his foot really was out of bounds. Waited with baited breath for the result of that review. **phew!**

I wish my family would be supportive instead of criticizing every move I make. I do something and they yell at me, I don't do something and I still get yelled at. I'm a walking ball of mistakes to them.

And then they wonder why I never visit or why I'm spending Christmas alone this year. Grr😡

My mom does it too, and I'm stuck at home until New Years. I have never wanted to not be on break as much as I do now. The worst part is when they don't even realize how awful they are and get all confused when you're upset! 😡

I'm spending Christmas alone this year. Grr😡

Yup, me too. This will be the 2nd year I havent been home for christmas. The fifth year I havent been home for Thanksgiving, or Easter, or New Years, or any other holiday.
And I am SO okay with it- so relaxing, just hanging out with the dogs.

I don't have any advice, just wanted to say that would make me rage too!!!

So I GRRRRRRRRR!!!! for you!!!

I hope I share this sentiment next year (during any holiday with my family, I initially regret being there until I remember how happy I am to be there🙂). It's highly unlikely I'll make it home for those one day holidays when I have multiple exams breathing down my neck....

Rant-turn-rave: This Thanksgiving was the first one where I wasn't driven crazy with anxiety about some impending doom-exam/final/paper. It might be the best Turkey Day in my entire history (all future ones included!) 😀

I just found out (while hitting the submit button for WI) that a close coworker's husband was killed in a senseless tragic accident yesterday. I can't even begin to imagine the grief that she and the rest of the family are experiencing. These are wonderful people and I simply can't find the words to explain the sadness and anger I feel over this. Plainly, it sucks. 🙁

Thanks everyone. I'm kind of excited about Christmas this year. I can do what I want and it will probably be the most relaxing vacation I've ever had.

I think my family means well in their attempt to "guide" me but it is not helpful. I try to tell them how I feel but they don't listen. Oh well, can't choose your family. I have supportive friends and a supportive bf (when he is not playing Skyrim haha). And I have SDN 🙂

If anyone finds my studying motivation, can you please have it sent back to me? My address should be on its tag. I'll reimburse all transport costs.

You and me both, sister...you and me both....

I had it around midterms in October, so don't think it would have reverted to a feral state that fast. It does bite, so if you see it (and it's not dead from rabies), just scruff it.

I might have actually died from the stink in the anatomy lab from the dead ponies/goats/calves... At least that's what I'm maintaining happened to mine 😀

I hate the calf cadaver in the cold room. I think I accidentally kicked it three times today while trying to find our cadaver in there. Regarding the stink... J and I have had the following conversation on almost a daily basis lately:
"Is this our dog?"
"I don't care, my eyes are burning, let's just grab it and go. We'll just wrap it really well when we put it back."

In fact, I don't think we've seen our dog's body since, erm, we started the head. 😳

The boyfriend and I are both sick. Coughing, sneezing, sniffling, sinus-headachey, want to curl up in a ball and die sick.

No, it's cool. I totally don't have finals next week or like, need to work so I can pay rent. :d

Dear Ninja-Ghost Developmental Bio. lab partner,

I understand it's important for you to remain mysterious and aloof, allowing none to know your true identity or whereabouts.

If it doesn't blow your cover or interfere with whatever covert espionage you're currently involved in, please feel free to email me your half of our proposal, which is due in less than 8 hours.

I assume you're currently somewhere in the Afghan back country or the interior of China, which is why you can't respond to my 4 emails over the last 4 days. I definitely don't want to compromise your mission, but I would like to get some points for this garbage assignment.

Send me two pages of typewritten background information tonight, via encrypted carrier pigeon, or I will phone the consulate with information regarding your facebook page.

Do the right thing, Macgyver.

-Dan

In a fun follow-up to this post from earlier in the semester, I'd like to include a few choice lines from the team research paper I was just emailed by my legendary Dev. Bio. lab partner, who apparently wrote his portion of our paper high on methamphetamine and ****** pills.

"However for this experiment as stated before according to our results our hypothesis was accurate."

This line makes sense if English is your second or third language. It's his first.

"Exposure of Bacillus cereus caused serious hemorrhaging, which was suggested in the previously."

It was totally suggested in ... the previously. A+

"When the egg was cracked the egg just fell apart into a yolk like and occasionally a blood mess."

Yes. Exactly.

"The remaining concentrations of higher values resulted in the death of the embryo, which is a textbook answer to our hypothesis as our results proved our hypothesis."

Shoot me in the f***ing face.

Now, my choice is to either completely rewrite his sections of the paper before tomorrow, or reap the D- that the failed American school system has sown.

Dang, that just hurts. That's really embarrassing.

Ah, you gotta love group work. If it was me, I would rewrite his section. I would also probably mention what a slacker your partner was and show him his original draft.

*I$%&#$@#!#%!!!!! The midterm for my online class timed out while I was writing it. And the timer kept running, so I thought I was ok. Only to discover that nope, when it timed out everything I typed after that point, including most of the definitions and the two essays disappeared into the ether when the time ran out and it auto submitted. I have 12.5 points of 95 possible. There goes my A, and a lot of other things that I needed the A for.

👍 Best advice that I can come up with. Oh slackers.....when teachers partner you up with other people, I swear that the universe is laughing at you. Even moreso when you pick your own groups and they still fail miserably

All joking aside, that's terrible, DS. Hope you manage to salvage the grade (and destroy your slacker partner previously 😉)

Everyone keeps talking about motivation. I've been collecting them, ya see. But I am willing to return them....for a small fee😀

Hang in there! (In my year off, I believe that this place is both dreadful and wonderful simultaneously. Like limbo...) I'll channel all of my anti-procrastination to you all 🙂 :biglove: Today's the 6th - only 10 more days for many of you to be finished (and then to panic about Xmas 🙄)

Was it a computer glitch or did you start it too late? Did you try contacting your professor about what happened? In my experience with online classes professors are usually pretty understanding of technology failure. Good luck!

Oh that's awful. I do love "a blood mess" though. Because "bloody mess" would have been leagues more scientific and mature-sounding. In fact, "bloody mess" would be an awesome phrase to include in one's results in an important scientific journal or something

That's why we just love working with others (sarcasm). Seriously, when will professors realize that students hate it. If you are the hard-working student who takes the project by the horns and gets it done, you hate the lazy ones who just sit around and get the good grade. If you're the quiet one, you hate the way the leaders just take over and do everything. It's a lose-lose situation. I suppose it's part of learning to work as a team, blah, blah, blah...

I realize that, in the grand scheme of things, this isn't funny at all. DSM, you have my sympathies... However, I can't help but . Why? Because I go through this on a daily basis with written communication from one of our department higher ups (previously mentioned for grammar skills in another thread). Illustrative example copied and pasted directly from my email to follow. Note: names and numbers have been changed to protect the innocent...

She already has AAA and BBB in formalin (says its also already thinly sliced also) and will drop off. Just put in procedure room. Rat was kind of old over a year old & more that it was not moving well. She did not seem very worried it but wanted to let us know.

The yolk looked... like yolk? 😕 No ****. (awww, SDN doesn't like me cursing...) God I hate group projects. I've been working with Finns over the last four months whose English puts many of my classmates to shame, and it's their THIRD language.

Same in Georgia. Last year this time I couldn't find enough clothes to wear because it was so cold. Now I get to walk around in a t-shirt all the time!

Here's my rant... Some people need to CALM DOWN on here with their criticisms of every freaking word that someone writes. Not in this thread specifically, but it is just crazy out there! We are all here to help each other and offer our opinions and advice, not criticize people for what they have to say. I know the app cycle is stressful, but let's keep it as pleasant as possible. 😱

No offense intended, Emiloo, but I think you need to take your own advice. If you throw a thought out there and someone critiques it .... it is what it is. Big deal. You need to be able to handle that; especially once you get into vet school.

And when someone offers advice that isn't the best, it deserves to be criticized. I certainly hope that the times I throw bad advice out somebody corrects me so that my ego pays the price rather than somebody who listens to me.

Yes. I see a lot of prevets posting what they think vet school will be like.... And a lot of times their view isn't accurate. So along come the people who are already in vet school to provide input. It's a big part of this forum, not a criticism of one person.

I can handle critiquing, I have absolutely no problem with constructive criticism. I am the last person, honestly to have an "ego". I guess I was just taken back by how much a comment of mine was picked apart when I wasn't even giving hard core advice, just a simple opinion. People are going to disagree, thats the whole point of something like this, to share opinions and advice. That's why I'm here, to learn and share. Just wish it had been a little friendlier.

I guess people looked straight past my main point and criticized the little stuff I wrote, and it annoyed me that no one was taking it for what it was. Better work on my communication for vet school I guess lol.
