RANT HERE thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
you want good entertainment? go to hamstertok. man that place is TOOOXICCCC
Yea idk if you saw my posts about hamster forums yesterday in here lol but yeah... not a good place

There's a lot of poor husbandry and people who don't know a damn thing about taking care of a hamster, but it's when people go to the comments and tell them they're evil horrible people is when it's a problem 😭 At least give them a chance to fix it!

EDTA: part of the blame should also go to pet stores who tell people misinformation. If the guy at petsmart tells you hamsters need tunnels, it's not entirely your fault for then purchasing tunnels. Though people should be looking into this before they go to the pet store.

I had passed out while watching a spay for the first time and somehow panicking about that led me to SDN lol
Idk how I found sdn tbh but I didn’t come here for the app help. I literally made an account so I could easily follow a WW thread bc I somehow found that as like my first thing on here and it sounded interesting 😂😂😂😂

Then why haven’t you played recently hmmmmmm

The amount of pre-vets that have listed Illinois-which I feel like is pretty infamous for their high GPA-as one of their prospective schools when their GPA is....less than ideal makes me think I should just start copy-pasting my answers as to why Illinois may not be the best choice for them. I mean, Illinois has it on their website that their phase 1 is basically just a GPA check.
But then they start yelling at you because IL should be holistic and it's all your fault lol
Being an Illinois grad/someone who benefited from their admissions process, it is so frustrating when people don't get how it works. It is an extremely attractive admissions process for someone who is just competitive enough to make that first cut off. Obvi the competition is as high as ever, so it's getting less attainable for the 3.2-3.5ish crowd. But once you make that cutoff, your GPAs can no longer hold you back and those with a ton of experience, good essays, great interviews, etc shoot to the top of the list.

Truthfully it's the only reason I got into vet school (aside from eventually making it off the UF waitlist), but I also only applied to 3 schools on my second round.

Because I got TIRED, Rae 😂

Also last time I tried to play I was wolf killed first night after not having played for like 5 years so I said “**** it I’m done”
We were just talking about generalized “wolf code” in our current game and most people agreed that players who were N1d in the previous game, or players who came out of retirement, were not reasonable targets N1.

So if you ever wanna try again, we have at least some honorable wolves who wouldn’t kill you!

They just found human skeletal remains outside of the CVM 😍
Okay. So solemnly acknowledging the possibility that this could uncover something really sad, this is like my dream. Please keep me personally updated regarding any breaks in this case lol.

Are the remains so buried that they could be extremely old or there before the school existed? Or like 'hey that dirt patch wasn't there a few weeks ago'

This is all we have so far. I’m curious how they could know there wasn’t foul play from just a skeleton…? I’m concerned it’s that it’s probably a homeless person and they just don’t care to investigate.

I drove up to school and saw cops and forensics people with dogs and a taped off area and was like UHHHHHHH?

Will update!

I think it could be, but it's kind of an 'anything goes' group. Not limited to parenting/kid stuff in the least, actually it seems the majority of posts from that group that make my feed are asking for stat consults/opinions on random cases. I've gotten some helpful info when it comes to what equipment I actually need (I recently asked if the Snoo was worth it or not).

I've actually found the Badass Docs group more interesting and potentially more relevant for my newborn days, lots of people asking 'Is this normal/do I need to go to the ER for this in my kid?' and getting quick answers. And vice versa, lots of human docs asking about their pets in that group.
I'm also in this group, and a few of my fellow radiologist former residentmates. The amount of incorrect radiograph interpretation that goes on in that group all willy-nilly and with SO MUCH CONFIDENCE is EXTREMELY frustrating for us and I can't stand it. I try to correct people or be helpful when I can but man, it's just too much and honestly terrible for my mental health. But also I'm addicted to it and can't make myself leave....

Ugh I wouldn't dare offer an xray interp unless it was an exotic and I was really confident. It's just not worth it.

And honestly like I wouldn't trust anyone not to somehow involve me in a legal case if something ever happened. It's such a grey area, like technically you'd be consulting on a case but it's very informal...and also, just send it out for a stat review if you're that panicked.

Exactly! It's so cringey.

But also I'm addicted to it and can't make myself leave....

It honestly took me signing out of Facebook on my phone and my husband changing my password. Two, two and a half years later, I literally cannot log in to Facebook unless I change my password through my email.

Otherwise, it was an automatic thing for me to just pull up Facebook. Any tech exec says it's not addicting is lying.

@beans2020 did you see that talk? Do you remember more about it? I was making snarky remarks to my school mates the whole time because otherwise I was going to get into an argument with the dude and that would not have looked good.
YES it made me so mad! I hated when he started talking about how AI is going to take jobs away from people and how that is actually a good thing. What if I prefer that people actually have jobs? What about the people who need those jobs that AI will take away?
Also when he said that we all have to get good at using AI to move forward in our careers and that we will not be marketable without AI. I'm sure there is some truth in that statement but I don't think I want to use AI so heavily in my career. There is a difference between using chat gpt sometimes when you are confused on homework and using AI as a major part of your job.
The whole talk just felt so pointless and unhelpful ugh
(And yeah I was yapping with my school buddies the entire time too lol)

Also when he said that we all have to get good at using AI to move forward in our careers and that we will not be marketable without AI.

Lol. Jokes on him. We're likely approaching our max output of AI use already due to the energy and water demands. Unless these AI companies start footing the bill to revamp our 50-90 year old electrical infrastructure, AI will not be a huge component of most jobs

The fact a non-vet or a man was accidentally let into the group (and subsequently removed I assume) is just that, an accident. An accident that was always possible.
They have also been caught selling info about members/group demographic info to 3rd parties, using their email list to advertise personal businesses of their mods, and then heavily censoring posts about that/banning any criticism to the point they made all posts need mod approval so they could stop turning off comments constantly. So I'd go cautiously with that group in particular at this time. I think they've lost something like 2k members in the last couple weeks over the whole thing?

Yeah, I’m not in the group for obvious reasons, but I heard about the censoring of posts by certain mods and all the stuff that SAR brings up from my friend who is in it. Those are the worst offenses, imo. Though I don’t know how you can trademark “moms with a DVM” lol

That’s definitely been agreed upon before but they gave no ****s 🙃 maybe eventually if there’s a theme that’s enticing enough

So I'd go cautiously with that group in particular at this time.

Yeesh. That does go beyond an approval of a non-DVM mom. I'd be pissed about my info being sold. With that added info, makes it more realistic for people to not trust the group as a whole. At that point, people just need to leave.

I'm not on social media any more, though my account is still active, technically. Wonder if my name was included on any sort of list 🤔

except me, I'm a reasonable target N1 always, you heard it here first
I'm a great N1 kill because I won't be salty and everyone will blame Zenge, plus you don't want me in endgame, that's where I'm best, tell all your friends

it wasnt you i’m 99.9% sure haha
Oh no, I mean that I was one of the people that was like, “WTF is wrong with you, read your submissions, and DONT USE AI.”

I said something like, “if you can’t write without AI in this situation how will a school think you won’t cheat once you’re in school.” And then a chorus of people reminded me that AI iS tHe FuTuRe

ETA: I also told them to make sure they apply to new schools next year because I’d for sure have blacklisted them if I’d read it. 🤣🤣 Dang it Indy online safety. Who am I, @_rae_ ?

we had someone come in a few weeks ago and ask us where we thought “veterinarians rank in prestige” and on their own list had us listed almost all the way on the bottom…
And then when I sent him modmail he said we created a toxic community and he will not be coming back 🤣 🤣 🤣
