RANT HERE thread

Oh no, I wasn't complaining about the wait! In fact, I was more making a point that I didn't even have time to mess up the cushions on the chairs but was charged a ridiculous amount o f money. I'm used to waiting hours to get into the doctor's office. My favorite is having an appointment and having to wait an hour and a half past my appointment time to see an orthopedic specialist. It's not like he has emergencies come in...

Glad you cleared that up

An hour and a half? Now that sucks.

🙄 well not all of us have a mommy to flash an insurance card for us. Put me in the camp that'd rather wait a little longer and NOT have to deal with private insurer bull.

Yup, my entire family was rich beyond my wildest dreams and I never had to pay for anything in my life 🙄

I usually hold off on going to the walk-in or getting tests done because I'm too stingy to fork over the cab money.

Speaking about how much it sucks to be in America, they fired my dad for not being American a week after 9/11. But it didn't matter... because we moved back to Canada where health care is freeeeeeeeee.

If you're so upset about your health care, you're allowed to come here.

Isn't there a major problem now with insurers dropping subscribers for pre-existing conditions, as well? So, even if you can afford insurance, you might not get it, is that correct? (Honestly curious here, the entire system is a bit confusing to me and there's a lot of issues with it that I don't understand)

I'm curious as to how it works there too.

Interestingly, when I went on the VIDA trip, I got asked a LOT of questions about our health care system... because Obama was thinking of making it more like ours, or something like that.

I honestly didn't know how to respond. I know that the wait times for the clinics/ER/surgeries/specialists sometimes sucks. Having insurance gives you some perks like dirt-cheap drugs and private rooms for hospital stays (had an ex who had no insurance so I asked my mom, a nurse, about it)... other than the "free" thing, I couldn't come up with any other reason to envy it.

I think someone mentioned on here that medication pricing is different down there than it is here.

Also, one of the reasons why I didn't want to take a year off and work next year is because I will no longer be on my parent's insurance. Which means I have to pay full price for medications ($200 a year for birth control!), doctor visits and dentist visits (I know it's $120 for an appointment and a cleaning at the dentist). I really don't know how that compares to down there, but it still makes me cringe.

...?

did they actually tell him that?

Right after 9/11, they laid him and his Canadian work buddies off, then the company basically told him that they were no longer allowed to have Canadians working for their company.

He worked for a big telephone company as a technician. When he came back here, there were no jobs available in his field and he was unemployed for quite some time. Mom had to go back to work. He has a job now... still not in his field, but he enjoys it 🙂

Also, while dad was working down there, his boss suggested that he apply at another company. He passed all of the tests, passed the physical and when he got to the interview, the interviewer said "Sorry. We can't hire Canadians."

Right after Christmas one year, when he went to return to work in the states, he was denied entry to the country because his employers failed to give him the correct paper work or something of that nature. He spent 3 weeks on the other side of the country, in a hotel room, trying to get back to the states so he could return to work.

I pay $200 for birth control in about 8 months and that's with insurance!

I pay $200/year with insurance. I'm DREADING losing my perscription coverage once I quit my job and have to go the summer paying my own insurance (will only have enough to cover emergency care). Full price for birth control will be close to $100/month!!!!!!!

How about some tort reform to get rid of ridiculous lawsuits in the health industry. Friend of mine's dad is a cardio-thoracic surgeon. They pay $60,000 a year for malpractice insurance. For him alone, in the giant hospital he works in. That's somebody's salary! How about we get rid of the CYA policy (cover your a**) and see where that gets us. 😀

In other news. I CANT STAND IGNORANT LIBERALS! "The reason it's been so cold is that the hole in the ozone layer is getting larger from global warming and it's letting all the coldness in from space." Seriously? Correct? No. Hilarious? Yes!

If you have a pre-existing condition you may not even be able to get insurance at anything resembling a reasonable or affordable premium. Or it will have an astronomical yearly deductible (i.e. you have to spend X amount out of pocket in a given timeframe before it even discounts anything).

I went for about 5 years without health insurance, from the time I couldn't be on my mother's anymore until I started working for the UC system. The only two times I visited a doctor in those five years were for bites covered by worker's compensation.

With my current insurance, a bicycle accident that I got into that required some stitches (and that's really all) ended up coming to an $850 bill after the insurance was taken into account. If I'm across the country from school (our primary care office is the student health center and a Davis hospital is listed for urgent care/emergency situtations) and something happens, I have no idea where to go and places aren't allowed to tell me for some reason? The whole system is absurd, IMO.

edit: and of course you missed my point, scarcelyheard, which was not anything close to your parents' wealth or anything like that, and more that perhaps the situation you were describing was atypical for the majority of people in this country. And commuting to school from Canada would be a hell of a trip for me....

Is there really a need to attack people with differing views than you? I try to keep my political views off of this forum since it is not a political forum. I (and I'm sure a few others) would appreciate you not calling people ignorant just because they have differing views from you.

I have to agree here. Anyone with the view that the hole in the ozone is letting in cold air is definitely ignorant, but is there any need to automatically label them "liberals"? 😕

I'd like to see where kas9ey heard that there are people who think that. If she (making a female assumption to make it easier) thinks that THAT is the argument of people who are concerned about global climate change, then SHE is the one who is ignorant.

And for the record, as far as I learned in a recent class (I can't think of it at the current moment) there is no longer a hole in the ozone layer. However, concern for climate change =/= a hole in the ozone layer. There is a LOT more too it than that.

But what do I know, I'm just an ignorant liberal 🙄

Hey boys and girls, where did I say "All liberals are ignorant!!!!" Where did I say that all people that have opinions on "climate change" believe that? The person that told me the "coldness from space is getting in" is a liberal (via their facebook page). Thinking there is cold air in space to get in through an imaginary hole in a gaseous substance I think qualifies them for the "ignorant" of basic science title. Sooooo ignorant+liberal= ignorant liberal, for that person.

Jeeze this is the rant page, not the "Jump down someone's throat for having different opinions page". Take a chill pill guys.

*Thanks her lucky stars she doesnt have to worry about birth control* 😛

The person that told me the "coldness from space is getting in" is a liberal (via their facebook page).

I just can't imagine linking those two statements. I'd probably write "I can't stand ignorant people!" or "I can't stand idiots!"

I mean, your argument for including liberal could just as easily have been "Ignorant brunettes (or whatever hair colour s/he has)!" or "Ignorant girls (or boys)!" or any other number of groups. It just struck me as extraneous information and needlessly political. (And yes, this is the rant page, but as you've seen with other people, that doesn't mean we have to like your rants.)

👍 I was trying to figure out a way to say this but you just did it so much better. Thank you.

😀 Glad to be of assistance. Can I join you in the Ignorant Liberals Lounge? I brought cookies.

I love cookies, but I've used all my WW points for today =( You eat your cookies; I'll eat an apple and pretend it's a cookie 😉

Haha Ellie.

My BC is $15 a month but I can only get one pack at a time. But I too went like 4 years without health insurance (since I married at 21 and was therefore booted from the parental insurance at that point). Now, as of August, I finally have insurance.

Also, let's keep the political shot off this forum, please? It's not the place for that.

My family does not pay a cent out of pocket, thanks to tricare. Free meds, no co-pays, and free vaccines. I am very thankful because my birth control is hella expensive.

Your issue is that I used the word "liberal"? Really? The kid happens to be uber-liberal and I included it in the description. I'm not trying to make some vast political statement over here.
OK you don't agree with me, that's fine. (Wait, I haven't said what I believe so what do you have to disagree with?) It's the USA, we don't have to agree on anything. Why don't you all follow your own advice and just ignore those who you don't agree with?

I think you're done here.🙂

There's a great program in TN where you can get birth control for free for being a student with low income. You just have to go to the county health program places and they give you an annual exam and free birth control for a year.

And this is supposed to mean......? 🙂
That you should stop blabbing about political bs. Like others have stated, this is not the place to discuss politics. Yes, this is a rant forum, but you need to be careful of what you say, even if you are raging. Some people are very offended by your statements and I think an apology is in order.

I'm not talking about politics, I was talking about the science! I haphazardly included "liberal" not thinking it would be so offensive. I figured "coldness from space" was pretty funny and someone might get a chuckle out of it like I did. Read up a few posts and pick on the people talking about Canadian vs. US healthcare if there is to be no political discussion at all. (No, I don't really think you should do that, just highlighting the double standard). I already said I wasn't referring to all liberals or all anything for that matter. So no, an apology is not in order. If you happen to be liberal and believe that coldness from space is getting in, then yes I apologize for bursting your bubble, but we're all smart people here so I seriously doubt that is the case.

And before you go after me for my "tort reform" statement, I'll say that is legislative in nature and not political.

My political preference is not relevant here and neither is healthcare. If you cannot accept, stand down, and apologize, I sincerely hope that you can learn to do so when you become a professional. I also believe you are not as ignorant as you make yourself seem. I'm done chastizing. No more political talk, no more arguing. Lets be supportive.

Edit: If you would like to continue, kas9ey, you may PM me. I probably won't respond, but don't continue here, please.

I didn't question your political beliefs so don't play that victim card please. And I'm not going to stand down, in essence sit down and shut up, when a bunch of people try to intimidate me on the internet, with insults veiled as flattery among other things, i.e., "you are not as ignorant as you make yourself seem." Part of being a professional is also sticking up for yourself and what you believe in. Who wants to work with a spineless weasel? No I'm not saying you or anyone else on here is a spineless weasel, chillax!

So, I'm mad that spring break is over and now I have to pretend to care about my 18 credit hours for the next month and a half until the summer. I could fail everything and it wouldn't matter... but of course I couldn't fail ANYthing, 'cause that would bug me. But it does make it hard to study.

And, my damn hair keeps on tinting my (clear) fingernail polish purple, and it looks really strange. I'm about to re-paint them AGAIN.

I'm not going to get in the health insurance fight but I have to say Ellie you made me laugh.

I figure dating girls AND having an IUD makes it doubly impossible for me to get pregnant, yay!

I so badly want to ask why a girl who dates girls would use an IUD, but deep down I just know that someone somewhere will take the question the wrong way and lambaste me for being cruel, stupid, tactless, mean, and horrific.

Sigh.

I'll jump into the health insurance fight by saying I'm really glad my insurance is covering me getting snipped next month. 🙂

No worries for asking, I was with a guy for 5 years and during that time I got the IUD (afterward I never got it taken out, just in case).
That is a LONG story 🙂

I don't think Nyanko's comment was aimed at you being spoiled or entitled. Why are you being so combative about this?

I don't know how long you've been around, but ever since Nyanko accused me of backseat moderating on the VIDA sign up thread, she has developed a habit of making sarcastic comments when she doesn't like or doesn't agree with what *I'm* saying. It seems to be only me for some reason... I betcha if Coquette made the same comments that I just have, Nyanko would have stayed mum.

Just speculating... I think she's said some things to other members.... but I'm too lazy to go backtracking. I have to get back to studying for anatomy.

Oh yeah... one good thing about Canada is that if you transferred to school here, you could live here, work here, and have free health care and we wouldn't care. I'm not suggesting you try commuting to and from... that would just be silly.

Anyhow...

And $200 for 3 months of birth control??? Wow, I didn't realize there was that much of a difference.

And... kind of on the topic of stupid policies that you wish you could just get rid of... Student Loan is giving my labmate a free Macbook because of his disability. And no, it's not a learning disability. He's getting a free Macbook because he has diabetes 😕 What's up with that?

haaaaaaaaahahahhahaha. I completely didn't realize it was Ellie who posted about not needing to worry about contraceptives, and thought the poster was just abstinent.

Now that is just a tease! It has to be more interesting than reviewing Nutrition or Physiology or Immunology or whatever.

And why are y'all trying to squash the controversy. It is entertaining.

Personally I find nothing wrong with the phrase ignorant liberal. Nor with the phrase ignorant conservative. There's plenty of both of em around.

Disliking ignorant liberals does not imply disliking or disagreeing with liberals in general. It does not even mean the person writing it isn't a liberal. Just doesn't like the ignorant ones. And if you take offense to that, I guess you would have to feel like you are one of the ignorant ones.

I'll be downstairs, in the kitchen, drinking powdered sugar.

I was thinking the exact same thing, but I thought it would be too cruel to say

Well... if I get too poor, I guess I can just exaggerate my anxiety a little bit. Then again, I don't know if that will help me. My friend was recently "diagnosed" (is that the correct term?) as having a disability because she has severe test-taking anxiety, and they haven't given her a free Macbook yet. But they did take a nice chunk out of her tuition.

I am suddenly reminded of the M*A*S*H episode titled "Bananas, crackers and nuts" where Hawkeye fakes going insane in order to go on R&R. Of course it backfires.

I wish we had a "I like this a lot" button on here. Too suffice I'll just do a lot of these 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you for summing up my scrambled thoughts so eloquently 😛

At least that seems like a personal issue and nothing to do with the fact that he was a vet...

It's worth noting, for the fact that she was a tech he worked with, at least.

OR...

We can go for full-on creep factor, because I live in that town.

AND...

I dropped off an internship resume at that clinic, on the 12th.
