I had this guy in Portland last summer and liked it:

I still don't understand the appeal in having an alcoholic beverage of any sort as your drink while you are eating food. The flavors don't mix well for me. Give me a water now, I'll have beer when I'm done, dangit. (I know wine is a bit different, but I have yet to find a wine that I like, so...)

I agree with you there!

The only time I'll eat and drink at the same time is when I'm already drunk and there are chips, or french fries, or... mustard... there for the taking.

My favorite condiment is........ KETCHUP.... and vinegar!

Go!

agreed, Heinz is the only ketchup in my books.

TT if you like sweeter drinks, I like a wine called Jam Jar. its definitely different than a normal red wine and not dry and icky like a lot of them...in my (non wine expert) opinion.

the bottle looks kinda like (surprise!) a jam jar and its like $10
👍

What the hell did you do in Tokyo?!

Actually happened in a really nice area in central tokyo where I lived. I was walking down the block when some japanese yakuza in a car shot some korean gangster, got him and an innocent bystander. 1000s of people (including me and my fiance at the time) were in the area, no arrests.

I found out I have a very strong instinct for self-preservation as I dove for cover (and gallantly dragged my SO with me).

Not me. Water just... I don't know. I'm not a water drinker to begin with, I just don't like it, unless I'm dying of thirst and even then it has to be super cold. I have to have some sort of flavoured beverage (juice, pop, beer, cocktail, etc) with my food.

Okay, I honestly don't drink much water either. My preference is tea. Not big on soda unless it's with pizza.

Also, I can drink milk with almost anything, but I know that's a bit odd - I just grew up drinking it so I'm used to it.

I LOVE MILK SO HARD.

Seriously. There is almost nothing I wouldn't pair with milk. And yeah. I judge people super intensely based on their fat content preference (looking at you, non-fat latte drinkers).

TT, have you tried Rieslings? They're generally sweeter wines, and kinda fruity. Might beat out Franzia for me. 😉

Also, clearly Heinz > Hunt's. Duh.

I can only seem to drink milk with sweet things. Cookies, brownies, cake... Or I put it on cereal. And even then I can only drink fat free, everything else is too... thick, or something.

You must be shunned. SHUNNED.

That's okay with me. Either I'm shunned, or I attempt to drink 2% and possibly puke on you. 😛 I can just about manage 1%, but I don't like it.

At times, the mere thought of milk makes me want to vomit. Can't stand that stuff.

Haha. I accidentally picked up my brother's bottle of formula when I was a toddler and, thinking it was milk, took a drink. I immediately got sick and since then I have never been able to drink milk straight from a glass. I know it's all in my head but it makes me gag. 🙂 So I know it's really gross but I spent most of my childhood/young adulthood drinking orange juice fortified with calcium. I can drink OJ with anything- chocolate cake, pizza, chinese food. Mmmm

Haha. I like 2%. And organic milk tastes soooo much better than the store brand stuff!

right on! in fact i love 8.25% milk which is pretty much watered down cream. i don't understand skim milk. it's like murky nasty water. lol. but then i drink milk maybe like 2-3 times a year. i can tolerate 2% and organic whole milk for cereal and such, but otherwise, it's go big or go home.

I'm so with you on this. Milk is for cereal. And mochas. 😛 And then only skim!

I'm one of those weirdos that drinks water, apparently, though my friend George (a drunken Scot), insists that "fish fornicate in that stuff! have a scotch!" I drink over a gallon a day. Of water, not scotch. I LOVE water. I also love scotch, but not quite that much. Don't drink soda ever, at all, drink one beer with dinner, and can't stand tea.

Does it help if I say that I'm pretty damn lactose intolerant?

That is forgivable.

WHERE DO YOU GET THAT? Most whole milk is 3.5% (thanks, Holsteins)... dang.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like drinking milk from a glass. People have told me that I'm weird when I tell them that I think its disgusting to drink because I can only have milk with cereal and occassionaly for dipping cookies I can only drink the Lactaid stuff though, so maybe that's why.

I don't like ketchup at all though. I went through a weird phase when I was younger where I stopped eating meat and ketchup because I thought it looked like blood then never really liked it afterward. I LOVE mustard though.

Wow. No ketchup?

...I can't imagine a world without ketchup.

BUT, I don't really like mustard (though it's tolerable, and honey mustard has its place).

Now how about this one...

To catch up on the conversation, I'm a fan of Boulevard Wheat, from Kansas City, but I only like beer if a) I haven't ingested anything that tastes better than beer in an hour or two or b) I am already intoxicated to some extent. I'm a much bigger fan of rum and coke, or fruity drinks.

I'm a fan of anything from skim to whole milk... If it's in front of me, I'll drink it, though I prefer skim or 2%.

Now, to answer the question above, I grew up with Miracle Whip and much prefer it, though if I eat Jimmie John's (or any sub, really), I use mayo.

I loveeeee calcium fortified OJ! That's all I drank as a kid too. And I love OJ with chocolate. Everyone thinks it's gross when I do that but I love it! 😍

Wow. I've never met anyone else like me either! I too have succumbed to our species tendency to lactose intolerance but I do love ice cream/lactase tablets! My nana bough some lactose free ice cream (breyer's?) and it tasted totally normal so that was a nice surprise

The colored ketchup always weirded me out. The worst was purple.

The worst was Green! My mother brought this home to her adult children - I was in my early 20's. Made the cheese on the burger look like moldy cheese. Totally inedible.

She also brought home pink butter. Looked like Pepto bismol.

I thought I was the only weirdo that didn't like milk. Although with cereal or cookies its good. Or in a coffee/tea combo. but by itself, ick!

I am also a weirdo who doesn't like ketchup. or eggs. so when people eat ketchup on eggs, I pretty much want to vomit/and or explode from disgust.

Does it help if I say that I'm pretty damn lactose intolerant?

me too! However, I drink way too much of it from my starbucks habit/problem. It's worth the agony afterwards!! hahaha!!

I drink non-fat/1% to try and cut out the calories but full cream is delicious!

I thought I was the only weirdo that didn't like milk.

OMG I thought I was the only one too! Thank you SDN!

I just don't like to drink it alone. In coffee, in cereal, etc it's fine. (Even then, though, I only like skim.) And of course, chocolate milk is delicious. But by itself...not so much.

Teatime, lareinesoleil, the rest of you guys... You can join me over here in the Dead To Breenie zone. 😛

Though we do agree on one thing, Breenie! Miracle Whip FTW! 😀

Ohh yum I so love ketchup, I usually drown everything with it, sometimes I have to throw my fries a life vest lol. 😛 I used to love milk when I was young, but as I've aged milk seemed to get thicker and thicker. I only have fat free which I put on cereal, my tummy can't take it any longer. Lol I don't even put milk or cream in my coffee, lol non-dairy powdered creamer is my choice. Ohh and lots and lots of sugar.😉

Hate ketchup.
Majorly lactose intolerant, and getting worse by the day. Can't even cook with milk anymore.
Almond milk = 😍
Hellman's mayo, but I mix it half and half with plain yogurt.

As for beer:

Also not available in this state 🙁

To me, mayonaise/miracle whip is something that I can only eat if I don't think about how it's been made. Every once in a while I'll have a TINY little bit of mayo on a sandwich, but only when I'm out at like Potbellys or something. And TANGY Miracle Whip? :barf:

So good to see folks back to themselves! 🙂 OK then, given that beverages and condiments are the majority of my fridge contents, thought I'd chime in...

Heinz and Hellman's are both staples. Will mix them for a special french fry dip and/or hopped up turkey burger. Miracle Whip? I have but one question: Why??

Drink more H2O than anything else and always have about 2 gallons in the fridge.

Milk is also a staple - limit myself to 1% and admit that I will drink it right from the carton. 😛 Also, I've found that the grass fed milk is the BEST!!!

Not a big soda drinker, but always have iced tea on hand.

Not much into wine (can't drink red due to migraines), but ADORE beer! Here are my top 5 in no particular order. I didn't put pics because I don't want to hog the board; but did give links if you want to see them.

They put on an AWESOME tour if you are ever up in the VT area. Totally worth a trip.

Hi cowgirla! Hope you're doing OK and that things have calmed down some.

Thanks for the tip! I heard from a VT native that I should head up there to see them, but he had never been on the tour. Will add it to the bucket list!

I'm getting there/will be ok. Thanks for your message the other day- I really do appreciate it 😍

It pains me that so many SDNers are lactose-intolerant.
