RANT HERE thread

Not sure where to post this and this seems to be the best place... I am fecking exhausted - have not been this exhausted in a long time. The last 2 days I have felt like I was a zombie and I have had to be on the move all day running back and forth from one side of a horse show ring to a tent to put up dressage scores. The night before the first day I only got 3 hour of sleep, so I contributed it to being tired from that on the first day. But last night I got a pretty normal amount of sleep and I was still a complete zombie. I really hope I am just overly tired cause I just feel completely out of it. I am hoping after a full night sleep tonight I will wake up rejuvenated and able to function at normal capacity again. :yawn:
 
I am really sorry about your grandma Minnerbelle and everything else that you are dealing with. I also come from an emotionally distant family, I know how hard that can be. Stay strong, we are all here for you.
 
I'm so, so sorry for your loss, Minnerbelle. I'm sure your Grandmother knew very well how much you cared for her.
 
Ugh. I hate the doctor I work with.

We had a cushinoid, diabetic 15 year old dog that was in DKA when it presented. It was unable to move and was urinating on itself because it could it was PU/PD and drinking very well. It could only eat when the owner fed it and not the diabetic food. She was also having other neurologic signs. It was obvious how uncomfortable she was when she initially came in - panting heavily (Cushing's in dogs) and very dull.

Dr. B saw it 1 week ago. And told the owner the pet was not suffering at all. And since then, she has been treating the dog and placed it on fluids. There has been no improvement whatsoever, the glucose was wildly uncontrolled.

I talked to the owner today about pursuing treatment versus euthanasia - and he told me that she hadn't talked to him about this at all because she told him the dog was not suffering. He elected euthanasia and is at peace with the decision because it was time. I just can't believe it took a week before a doctor talked to him about it.

She found out about it today and asked me why I euthanized. I talked to her about the fact that the dog was not improving clinically and that the owner and I had come to the conclusion it was time. She told me I should have checked blood glucose and that it would take the insulin another week to work.😡

Does this doctor have any redeeming qualities? I mean any?

The case was so badly managed. She only had the guy go to an emergency clinic once. I feel like she had no idea what she was doing so she made it up as she went along. Without looking anything up.

And I'm a little disheartened about the contract - my only way out would be no way to live, either. 🙁

I'm sorry I'm so upset over this - I feel like this owner was trying to do what was best for his dog and he wasn't treated with the medical knowledge or proficiency he deserved.

You have every right to be upset. I just can't figure out how that vet has skated along for 13 years.

I honestly don't believe a shred of medical knowledge WAS used in treating that dog.

I would report that, dyachei. Absolutely, completely and utterly not acceptable. I doubt her treatment plan would be defensible in front of your states licensing body...

I'm looking into it. Some of the crap she has gotten away with is pretty ghastly.

I've already sent an email to my superior (no response yet)- maybe I will call her this weekend if I get a chance.
 
Minnerbelle, I am so sorry to hear about your grandma. I am sure she knew that you loved her very much. My thoughts are with you.




Dyachei, You make me want to punch Dr. B in the face, really hard. Sorry to hear that she is causing you more trouble and I really hope you can find a solution to it, whatever that solution may be (hopefully it will be Dr. B getting the boot.)

Now that I've finally had the time to grieve by myself and with my boyfriend and process things on my own terms, I'm feeling a ton better already.

This isn't really a rant because I'm not mad but I don't know where else to put it. Dog woke me up at 4:15 to go outside. Weird for her because she usually sleeps all night long and then some. I'm thinking to myself that maybe I just forgot to let them out before going to bed. Nope, diarrhea. Great. We all go back to bed. At 5:15 I am woken up again by the dog whining to go outside. This time I am a little quicker to respond and the minute I get her outside she gets what my ag teacher would call the squirts. I feel so bad for her. I don't want her to be sick. Poor thing. I'm really hoping this is just an upset tummy because she is acting fine otherwise and her appetite is normal. I really don't want to have to take her to the vet because cash is a little low right now but I will if she keeps it up. Going to be keeping an eye on it that's for sure.
 
Wow.... some serious stuff here,,

1) Minnerbelle. Happy to hear you are feeling a little better about things today. Those cultural differences are kind of tough sometimes. Hang in there.

2) Dyachei - Sorry these things keep occurring. Really not much more we can say to you. hang in there as well.

3) Devyn - Worried about you. Making me feel all fatherly and suggest you start getting more regular sleep. I've seen your hours in WW games and it is insane. A couple of days or weeks staying away from the late nights at the pub may be good for you. It catches up eventually.

4) Lissarae - My doggie just went through this as well. A little worrying for me especially as I don't want to leave on vacation with a sick doggy back at home. Hope it passes quickly, but I am sure you know what to do.

And for anyone else with some difficulties I missed, keep your chins up!

Thanks for the concern SOV! 🙂 I am mostly back to normal other than having imbibed alcohol last night, but seeing as I do that to myself often that is nothing new. Staying away from the pub and late nights would be like asking me not to breathe.

And as for the scrubs comment... Rule #1: Don't wear embarrassing underwear with scrubs. I think we've all seen some coworkers with wild underwear, and some of us might *be* the coworker with wild underwear. :laugh:

I think it's way more amusing when you at least have crazy zebra print undies on. I may or may not have a pair...

Wild underwear is better than a full moon. Although I am sure most of us know what it is like when the scrubs lead to mooning people unintentionally...
