I just got turned down for a dog I applied to adopt. The rejection sucks, of course, but it's worse because I've adopted from this group before, and they let me know how much they appreciated the care I took of that special needs dog.

I think I'm equally mad because they let me apply for this dog when he was not actually available--and he's still on the available dogs page of their website. I know rescues have a rough time of things, but if you're going to charge an application fee, you should be honest about which dogs are actually available!
 
That sucks. It sounds like your baby needs a playmate if she's running into you. I have worked with a rescue and sometimes they can be disorganized and crazy.

She definitely needs a canine playmate! She's been needing one for a while--I just wasn't ready emotionally or time availability wise to bring a new dog into the house.

I don't want to be ungenerous to the rescue because I happen to be angry at them right now. They're doing good work, and they somehow make it happen despite all of the logistical, financial and medical issues they face. They're volunteers and I'm sure they're doing the best they can do. Just... their "you didn't get the dog" email was really pushy about applying for another dog. I plan to do this, but I'd like to know who is actually available before I write out my application and pay the application fee again.
 
Can you go with a different rescue? Also can you ask if they will waive the fee since the dog wasn't available for adoption in reality?

Eh... yes, I could go with a different rescue, if I didn't have my heart set on this particular breed. I did write to ask if they could let me know if any of the other dogs on the available page are not actually available so I don't have a repeat of this incident. I don't know if they'd waive the fee, but it's honestly not that much; it's just the principle of the thing that's annoying me.

If he was willing to do this to you in a time of such upheaval he probably wasn't worth having around. Not easy to see at the moment, but at least you have the option for a clean start.
But jesus, CFC. I'm so so sorry.
 
Thanks, guys. I don't really have anyone else to talk to about it. I'm not going to tell my parents until after the white coat ceremony. I wish he didn't live in the same town. I wish it was yesterday 🙁.
 
Trying to request transcripts from the state university where I'm taking biochem/physics, but their online transcript request service won't let me enter XXXXX-XXXX zip codes and tells me the zip code can only contain alphabetic characters. Which isn't even true. That means letters only. Clearly not the case, since you let me enter numeric zip codes before. FAIL.

Don't want to call them again. Last time the woman on the phone was rather curt and rude with me. Miss my small college so much.




And, so sorry CFC. 🙁 Nothing to say, except that's really horrible and a super lousy way to start what should be such an exciting time.

Just a minor rant.

I need to find a job by September.
Having a BSc in biology is useless for finding a job.
Over the past 7 years, I have applied to close to 15 vet clinics. 99% of them tell me they have something for me, never call, and when I finally get the right person on the phone, the position they had magically disappears. They essentially string me along, giving me false hope. Or they just never get back to me. I hate it.

I had some inside information about a clinic hiring, so I sent them an email asking about the positions and included my resume. I did this July 11th. I was told they have not confirmed their hiring plans, but they would have a better idea in a week. They told me they would contact me. Did they? No. So I inquired a week and a half later. I get a message saying that the hiring manager is on vacation until August 14th. Really?!

There is an awesome position coming up at the local vet college which I qualify for. And it will allow me to gain residency by working there. I am just waiting to hear back from a reference (a vet tech I volunteered with) with her contact information. I really do not have high hopes anymore for any of this kind of work. I applied for the same position near the beginning of the summer and heard zilch from them. You want someone with clinic experience? I volunteered in 3 veterinary clinics and I went abroad and volunteered in a mobile clinic. You want someone who is clean/tidy/organized/can work independently? I had 3 jobs as an assistant or researcher in molecular biology labs.

I keep tuning and re-tuning my resumes and cover letters. I had thought that the last resume I handed out for volunteering was fantastic... hey, it did land me a position. What am I doing wrong?!

Why do the job gods hate me?!?!

It's looking like fast food or unemployment for me.
Vegetarian for 9 years. Dad had a heart attack at 50 because he loved the stuff. Already spent close to 5 years in the fast food restaurant. I paid my dues. Why should I go back to that?!
Urgh.
 
Ugh. Woke up at 4am puking and now again. No freaking clue why.
 
I called the agency that I am renting my flat from last week to get some issues resolved including:

-The water heater not working for either the bathroom sink or the kitchen sink, works ok for the shower (warm water when on highest setting), but is not great.

-The washing machine is broken, can not even start a load of laundry and there is still old soap caked into the inside of the tray where the soap goes in, I am assuming that the machine has not worked in a while. This is most frustrating because I am unable to wash clothes and my supply of clean clothes is quickly running out.

-The heater for the flat barely works. It only blows hot air out of the right side and it does not heat up the entire flat very well.

-There is a hole in the front door where there had been an old lock, it is allowing cold air to flow into the flat which is further not helping with the heating issue.

-There is a knob missing on the stove/oven so you can't turn it on... Cooking has been great....

-I was informed that I would get two keys for the flat, one for each lock. I only received one. Not that big of a deal but the lock that is working currently is very loose... If I tried to kick the door in, I would succeed.

-Also, this past weekend all of the electrical outlets in the flat (minus those in the kitchen) have stopped working. I already checked the fuse box and none of them are off... all of them are on. I turned off a few of them that are connected to those outlets and turned them back on, still nothing. I am having to charge my computer and cell phone in the kitchen as well as attempt to blow dry my hair in there as well... It is really frustrating and annoying.

What the hell is taking them so long to get their butts in gear and get this place working the way it should have been when I moved in... 😡
 
What :bang: the :bang: heeeeeeccckkkk :bang::bang::bang: ?!?!?!?!?! My school is being EXTRA slow with their review of my FAFSA!!!!! So I have no idea what is even available and they are mean and rude and not helpful and MEAN!! AND!!! My school website is saying that the preliminary family contribution is some ungodly high number and FAFSA will NOT let me open it to see what it says without opening it in correction mode!!! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My boyfriend and I were supposed to go to MI today after I got off work. We've been planning this for a long time- he is supposed to help me move out of my apartment and into my new one. Instead he decided that he would rather go to his ex-girlfriend's divorce/custody court case. (Yeah, same ex-girlfriend that I've had issues with before). He wasn't even subpoenaed like he thought he would be. He just decided to go to "support her". Whatever, thanks jerk, now I have to drive to MI myself tonight after 8 hours of work and barely any sleep because you left at 6am and also now have to move myself out.😡

Man, I'm so sorry, guys! 🙁 Your dudes are *****holes! 😡 Seriously. No consideration for their ladies, just for themselves (or the WRONG lady). 😡😡😡 I wish you didn't have to deal with any of this crap at a time when so much is going on and you would obviously love the help and support.

I feel really bad because I had to cancel my photo/ID card appointment with the vet school because I won't be there tomorrow until very late. Now I don't know when I will be able to do it. He texted me "please don't be mad, I've had a bad day". Well, buddy, it's just about to get worse.

He should have been there to help you move. I do not understand. Current gf trumps ex gf. In every case.

I have the wierdest tan lines ever.
Really need to learn how to apply sunscreen without missing random spots. Giant splotch on my back, random spot (Elbow rub?) on my thigh, plus the usual bikini lines. And the right side of my body is darker than my left - oops.

My secret weapon: The spray sunscreen. Also, I live in 50spf. Although at the moment, I think it's all just melting off. Christ on crackers it's hot out here!

Funny you say that- I've been using spray sunscreen for the first time ever this summer. And having horrible luck with it haha. I think I'm going to go without tomorrow for a bit and try to even out some of this lines- I can deal with a little bit of sunburn. Its the last time I'll get to the ocean for the next two years, might as well remember it :laugh:

I'm DREADING driving back to OK this weekend. So not ready to go from 80s to 100++s 🙁

My friend, who keeps her chinchillas
in really small cages because her dad used to breed them and said its okay, wants a bunny.

She sent me a FB message. The couple who she may get the bunny from said that if the female has one litter before being spayed, the risk of her developing ovarian cancer is lower. Sounds like a myth to me! She asked me if I knew anything about it.

So now I get to contact the vets and bunny rescues I know!

The first three websites I pulled talk about the importance of spaying. One said the risk of cancer increases with each litter.

And, knowing her, she will get the bunny from the sketchy couple and breed it anyway.

Head desk.
 
Definitely not true. Spay early! Bunnies are at an extremely high risk of reproductive cancer if not spayed - and they need a lot of space to move around to digest their food properly. See rabbit.org for more info 🙂
 
Just spent 1/2 hour reading a PS to delay working on the next draft of my paper.. Figured by the time that was done, there would be lots of work to do on my WW games. Nothing... not a single post. Now I am forced to actually work on this wretched thing again. 🙁
 
Just left my flat and went through the normal check to be sure I have everything because I am good at leaving things behind. I shut the door behind me and realize I forgot to make sure I have my ket, the door locks automatically when you shut it. So ensue panic search for my key, it is not where it normally is. Ensure more panic... Dig through my purse trying to find it. I finally find it at the very bottom of my purse... I think I nearly gave myself a heart attack.

I do that regularly. Thank you for me usually leaving one outside for whenever someone comes to let the puppy out. 🙄

Really? I love the spray stuff for my back and the backs of my legs. I managed to go to the beach and NOT get a sunburn for the first time ever! I still mostly use the regular stuff for my arms, etc.
If I go out w/o it, I would be utterly dead - last time we went to the beach, I didn't reapply often enough and I was lobster-red. Not to mention how freaking ridiculous it is here in OK! I don't know how anyone does anything outdoors during the day here.

Good luck with the drive - I just did it in like 2.5 days, with 3 cats in the car, and a family member driving the truck with all my stuff in it. Blech.
