Definitely not true. Spay early! Bunnies are at an extremely high risk of reproductive cancer if not spayed - and they need a lot of space to move around to digest their food properly. See rabbit.org for more info 🙂

Mine ended up with ovarian cancer. No one in 4-H told me she needed to be spayed. By the time I did the vet said they were black. She didn't live a whole lot longer. She died right in front of me when I was only like 11.

I just put my cat down. It was so much harder than I thought it would be. But I had to not be selfish

I'm so sorry. It's never easy. I saw a Boston in ICU today at orientation and almost started crying. It reminded me of mine that I put down in December. Somehow I've been able to be more optimistic since then. But I've cried over it still. Sending my condolences your way.

Thank you all so much. I saw it coming and thought I was prepared so I was surprised at how much it hurt. He was such an awesome kitty

I am so sorry Abs. It is just never easy, even if you think you're ready and you know what's coming. *hugs*

Then today, on day 1 of our 3-day drive, Lucy PEES in her CARRIER. Didn't notice it until we stopped for the night, at which point the pad was soaked, it had soaked through the cloth to the outside of the carrier, and into the cloth carrier Roxie was in next to her. So now EVERYTHING smells like cat pee. Deeeelightful. 😡 They NEVER do that, so now of course I'm paranoid about Lucy having a UTI, or just randomly deciding to pee in the car

Oh man that sucks... My kitty is great at traveling by car, and will go on command when I slip a small litter box in her crate every four hours or so. BUT, on our drive from MA to CO I whisked her in the car first thing in the morning before she had the chance to unload her bladder from the whole night. I kept hearing kind of restless movements from her carrier just an hour into the drive and thought that was weird. Then the scratch scratch scratch scratch on the wall followed by the most pathetic *mow mow mow.* pulled over immediately and yep, poor thing was drenched.

Well hopefully the rest of your trip goes without a hitch! Drive safe

So sorry Abney 🙁🙁 It's always hardest when it comes to our own pets.

Poor poor SOV. I woke up and saw the 6 newest threads all had comments just from you. Bummer.

I just said goodbye to my best friend as she drove off for vet school. That was unbelievably hard for so many reasons.

I'm about due for some happy.

Sick...and my cat might have ringworm. Awesome

My brother's friends apparently ate my huge glass of salsa D:<

TRAINS.

Today was totally awesome, and I got to the train station in plenty of time for my 10:10 train back to Kildare. Only since it's Sunday, the last train left about 10 minutes before I got there. Only actually the last train today was even earlier than that since tomorrow's a bank holiday. So then I had to wait two hours for a bus and pay 11.50 for a trip that was supposed to be covered in my return ticket. Oh, and after I missed the train the info desk guys told me the next train would be at 10, but by the time I learned that there was NEVER a 10:00 bus (not even on not-Sundays), the info desk was closed. I'm pretty sure they lied to me in such a way that I couldn't complain when I found out what they said was wrong.

I don't know which is worse
1. People who drive 30+ miles above the speed limit
2. people who drive 10+ miles below the speed limit in the left lane
3. People who zig zag between lanes without signalling
4. People who can't maintain their speed while talking on the phone/texting/eating/drinking/smoking/fiddling with the radio (Seriously people, either look at the speedometer or use cruise control)
5. Trucks and trailers in the left lane when it says "No trucks or trailers in the left lane"
6. Trucks that try to pass in the left lane while going up a steep hill and up doing 45mph by the time they reach the top.
7. Tailgaters- believe me, if I could get out of your way easily, I would. Even better, when you look in the rearview mirror and all you see is some chick with both hands up in the air fixing her hair. Um, please put both hands on the wheel when you are within inches of my back bumper

In other news, after 2 days and 25 hours of driving, the dogs and I made it back to the inferno...I mean Stillwater.

Your dog?!?! This sounds like a job for a cat 😉

It's only my 4th day living in the country and my dog got sprayed by a skunk! Not that I know what skunk spray smells like (being a life long city dweller), but we have seen a couple roadkill skunks and my dog came in from the yard STINKING and the smell won't wash off, so it feels like a safe guess. Eww, it really smells gross and I can't stop smelling it. I think I have awful smell induced PTSD.

Unrelated: sorry about your cat Abney. He was lucky to have had you in his life.

1 quart hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 - 2 teaspoons of liquid soap
lukewarm water if needed (for larger dogs) and mix

Pour on the dog and let it sit for a few minutes. Wear rubber gloves.

As far as Rant #2 my mom always made us clean the house before we left for that very reason. And it's ingrained in me, so I still try my best to make things clean if I'm going to be gone for an extended period of time.

👍 Best anti-skunk shampoo.

The people I know use tomato sauce. Pour it all over the dog and then wash it off. Apparently it helps pretty well.

Please don't! The poor dogs end up smelling like skunk and tomato juice (which in itself is worse than skunk itself IMO). Go with the peroxide baking soda mix tt posted instead.

Actually the dog didn't smell like skunk anymore. That was the point.

I agree. Tomato juice doesn't work well... from personal experience 🙄 It's more of an old wives tail I think.

My rant:
My dog whined all morning to take her outside. I bring her out in the pouring down rain and she refused to go to the bathroom. Annoying :annoyed:

TT-Thanks for the anti skunk smell shampoo idea, off to buy H2O2....

UGH!!!! That is really all I will say besides I am soaking wet.

The BF had a violent diabetic reaction at 3am. I gave him 4 glucose tabs. 15 min and still freaking out I tried to feed him grape juice. He was lucid enough to drink 1/2 of it then gave me the crazy eye and went clonic, holding the glass in a way it was sure to tip. I spent 5 min trying to get the glass and then he shifted and spilled it on the bed. I got a towel, put it down and he then purposefully poured the rest of the juice on the towel. He clutched the glass for another few minutes like he was trying to break it. I got it away from him and managed to test his sugar. 116, he's not gonna die. But he's still being crazy and it's almost 4am. I let him tuck himself in and took my pillow and a blanket to the couch. No way was I sleeping in a juice and sweat soaked bed with a crazy guy.

Best part. He woke up for work, got ready and came out to find me on the couch. Promptly asks why and I explained about the bed and his reaction last night. HE DOESN'T REMEMBER ANY OF IT.

Oh my gosh. That sounds so scary. Glad he is ok and you didn't end up with a black eye or anything.

hehe good luck with those blacksburg skunks! there are a couple that hang out on campus from time to time too fyi

Ugh. I'm glad my undergrad never really had skunks. Which was kind of odd cause there was a wooded area with a creek kind of running through campus. We did have raccoons though. They stole my friends groceries and left them all over the parking lot. Another one would kind of stalk you. My friend was convinced it wanted to eat her.

I was trying to throw something away once on campus at my undergrad and a squirrel jumped out of the trashcan at me and chirped very loudly at me. Freaked me out.
I found a different trashcan to throw my trash into.

And I saw a mommy and baby skunk walking outside my kitchen window (sunk into a hill, so level with the window) one summer. Super cute, but didn't really want them too close!
