Got home from work 2.5 HOURS later than normal. 😡

Stupid cow fell down in the parlor WHILE milking and then refused to get up. (she lifted her rear hoof, moved it back and put it down, into the milker's pit, stepping on air, fell down on her belly, back legs sprawled INTO the pit. 🙄) Was able to push both legs back up into the parlor lane(where they belonged), but she refused to get up and just rolled on her side. I had to milk cows on one side of the parlor for 45 minutes until help arrived. We had to use the bobcat and rope halter to DRAG her out of the parlor and out the door. (before anyone is horrified about that, remember cows have really thick hides, and exactly how else do you propose moving a 1400 lb animal that refuses to move, but they HAVE to be moved?) Took us 40 minutes to get her moved out onto the gravel.

As soon as she was on the gravel, SHE GOT UP. 😡😡 I'm glad she got up, but she could have done that to begin with in the parlor! She's ok though at least. Couple small scrapes right above her hooves from when she initially fell, but otherwise she's fine. 👍 She trotted down the lane towards the pasture.

Stupid cow. Cost me 2 hours of my time.

And about the driving rants... I feel your pain. I just got my learners permit (for the third time). I wish they made a sticker for the backs of cars that warn people that I only have my learners. I'm not allowed to do illegal things like speed, or pass in construction zones, or pass on the shoulder or solid line... I know people are impatient with me, but what can I do? If I get caught for speeding, my license will be taken away!

CFC, I am so very sorry this happened to you. How devastating. 🙁 I completely agree with everyone else, that although it seems like the worst time ever, I have a feeling it is actually good timing. You are starting an exciting new chapter of your life and it's all about you now. If he was too stupid to realize what he had, then poo on him. Use it as motivation! *Hugs*

Abney, so sorry about your kittay. 🙁 He was lucky to have you (even if you pulled all his teeth out 😛 ). And I'm sure sending your best friend off to ... vet school... :scared: had to have been pretty hard for you. Good thing you're gonna get in this year and get to experience the same thing soon! 😀

My rant:
Apparently my mom planned a trip for my 14 year old cousin to come down to visit without my knowledge and it just so happened to be THIS week... my week off before school. 🙄 She decided to tell me the day before she got here.
I have SOOOOO much crap to get done it's ridiculous, and here I am trying to entertain a 14 year old. My mom was supposed to be getting out of work early everyday to hang out with her, and now... oh no... Emiloo is stuck doing it all. I feel bad for my cousin because she is down from Ohio to visit FL in the summer, and would probably like to be at the beach or on the boat, but instead, she's just sitting around inside while I do all the stuff I need to get done.
I have so many errands to run and things to do and I'm just so mad that I'm left feeling guilty that my cousin is bored. Not to mention she sleeps in SOOOO much! It's almost 11 here and I am still waiting for her to get up! WHAT A WASTE OF MY LAST WEEK! 😡😡
 
It's always nice when you realize that you have sent all your transcripts and GRE scores to the wrong place....after harassing (in a nice way) the admissions office. Makes me feel really intelligent 🙄
 
So I'm having some thoughts that actually sort of are making me feel like I might be a bad person.

My little sister is a hardcore vegan. She isn't really preachy, but she definitely has viewpoints that make me feel uncomfortable at times as a vet student and researcher. She has a friend, of the type who IS one of the preachy ones. He constantly makes it known that he believes that he is on a higher moral and physical pedestal than the rest of us, and is the type to loudly protest 'vivisection' (any research performed using animals, regardless of invasiveness), 'big pharma', and other such 'evils' in our society, as well as of course being vegan and more on the 'raw' side.

Well in the midst of all of this moral crusading and self-righteousness, he came down with AML (acute myeloid leukemia) at the age of 27. As we know, this is the sort of cancer where you have to make a fast decision on treatment as it can be rapidly fatal if not treated. I suspected he'd have some inner struggle about it, but nope. Started chemo just like that. Guess your morals aren't so important when it's your life on the line, are they?

I know it seems callous to think like that. Even I'm uncomfortable with the fact that my first thought when I found out was "wow, what a hypocrite" and I'm hoping that if treatment is successful, he chills out a little bit on railing against the medical machine and proclaiming to everyone that they got cancer because they eat meat and such. But I'm not optimistic about it. 🙁

You might be a bad person but not because of that.

You didn't wish him to get cancer or anything....

It just exposed him as a hypocrite, and you hope he can grow up and learn from the experience.

Nothing wrong there.

but I totally agree. Not a bad person at all. I would have a very similar view on it to you.
 
Orientation ended at 2PM today. With all the walking plus the bus rides I arrived home right at 3PM. Someone was supposed to come between 3PM and 6PM to fix the washer and the stove/oven. They arrived at 3:03PM.. No time to relax. So he is messing around with the washing machine trying to get it to work, he gets it to run and it is pouring water into the soap try and the idiot decides that it will be a smart idea to pull the soap try out while it is filling with water. The water runs through the machine and all of the kitchen floor. Then he is like oh oops can you get me some towels? I don't have many towels because I have been trying to save money so I give him a hand towel and is like no I need something bigger and then throws the hand towel on the floor in the water... So I get him a bigger towel, seriously we didn't you wait for the bigger towel. I told you I don't have many of them and you STILL used both of them when it was not necessary. AND I need a new washing machine so I don't have a way to wash them. Looks like I will be going to the laundromat again this weekend. 😡

Then he works on the stove/oven. He discovers that the top oven never turns off and he could not bypass the electrical wires on that part so every time I turn the switch on for the stove/oven that top oven is on and heating up. Not only that but I have to move the knobs around to use all of the stove tops because I am missing a knob.

So annoying. This letting agency had better approve of the fixes quickly.
 
Ouch, Emiloo. I looked as red as that after I got stranded on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck for over 4 hours.

Dermoplast spray, best stuff ever.

I suck, I know. I'm pretty mad at myself. Especially considering I already had melanoma removed a few years ago 🙄

Emiloo, Aloe Vera works well too.

When my sisters and I were little and would spend 12+ hours in the pool and come in looking like little red lobsters we would just break off pieces of the aloe vera plants outside and rub the aloe vera on the burns... Works wonders.

I'm a SUPER-fair skinned brunette/almost redhead, and I also took this oath. Though sometimes I forget. Emi, aloe the bejeebus out of it, and take some aspirin - it helps! I've been going to the pool daily, but I try to only stay there for an hour, and I take spray sunblock so I can reapply!!
 
👍 to aloe and aspirin. A few weeks ago I fell asleep on my stomach at the ocean and didn't wake up until the incoming tide tried to drown me. I couldnt walk for a week the backs of my knees were so fried. And the very tops of my thighs where my bathing suit apparently rode up. I was cranky

I had this exact thing happen once, many years ago, on the beach in RI. Stairs were torture. Thanks for bringing back that repressed memory!! 😉

My legs match that picture right now too 🙁 They look purple. The worst part... my cousin wore NO sunscreen, and is all nice and tan 😡

Me too, although I just got really intensely into a book and wasn't paying attention to the time. Nevermind stairs, just moving hurt!

Ooooh, yes please! My horse is showing up tomorrow, and my boyfriend is coming....tomorrow? Thursday? One of those days. But if you want to meet up for coffee/lunch/whatever tomorrow, I'm glad to help procrastinate on cleaning! We can drag TT along too. Also, everyone is always welcome to come to the pool with me at my apartment. 😀
 
Ouch, Emiloo. My back looks the same way right now after scalloping Sunday. I guess Floridians never learn. I had 80 spf sunblock and thought "Nah, that's overkill, I'll be fine...." Three cheers for aloe!
 
Part-rant, part-rave.

Rave: broken wall will finally be fixed. weeks later. And maintenance man got in BIG trouble for leaving it so long.

Rant: I was going to drop my puppy off at daycare for the day so she won't bother or be bothered by the workman but she's ineligible because of the recent worms. She sounded grumpy when maintenance man came in today and I kept her leashed because he's scared of her. But she's never shown any aggression so I can't imagine she would bother the painter tomorrow. But she eats everything in sight and I don't want her to eat paint (or similar). I'm thinking about whether I need to take a sick day tomorrow from work.... :-/
 
There is something growing in my coffee pot. 😡 :scared:

I went and made coffee, was going to pour it, when I noticed 'floaties' clinging to the glass pot. 🙁 (they looked like ice crystals that form on your windows in winter, only brown) :barf:

They had to have come from inside the water resevoir/line. As soon as the machine cools down, I'm breakin' out the vinegar!

I wanted coffee 🙁:cry:

Guess I'll have to have tea instead. I need caffeine right now!
 
Does anybody here go to tanning beds?

I have always disliked tanning beds. Mostly because of the whole cancer/wrinkles thing. I have never been to one.

And on to the rant...

I am already pretty sensitive about my body. But these gosh-awful tan lines from work make it a million times worse.

I started out the palest person I know. Lying on beaches was never for me. Because I am super sensitive to burns, I bathe myself with sun screen. So who knew I would actually get a healthy glow by being in the sun so long that the sun screen wears off?

Now my back is 4 different shades (back when it was 3 different shades, one of my coworkers said I looked like Neapolitan ice cream: white, red from a recent burn, and brown from an old burn)

I have 2 racerback tank tans and two brown "wings" on my shoulders where I tried to slather sun screen back there and missed horribly.

I have a nice square neck line.

I have a tramp stamp tan line across my butt crack.

I also have a mid-length shorts tan.

I have no hope that it will gracefully fade. My burn happened in the first week of May and I still have those awful brown wings.

So, I am contemplating going over to the dark side of tanning. But only if by some miracle it evens everything out... even just a little bit.

I had friends who went to tanning beds to get rid of the awful one piece tan lines we'd get from life guarding. If you do like the three 5-10 minute sessions it actually evened itself out. I think they didn't even do the ten minutes. Probably just the five.

This will sound insanely hypocritical right now lol, but tanning beds were how I got skin cancer. It runs in my genes terribly though and it's obviously your decision, just putting in my $0.02.
 
Sometimes I wish I was a different person. Most of the time I just wish I was stronger and could stick up for myself. I at least wish my parents would stick up for me when my brother is constantly verbally harassing me. Above all else I wish I had enough money that I could get far away from this place.

On the subject of sunburns I'm really pasty but my right arm is quite red from driving with the window down due to no AC in my car.

Hence, why I didn't do it. My grandfather has had skin cancer and I'm pretty sure I'm going to get it since I was always out in the sun when I was younger due to swimming. And then the four years of life guarding definitely didn't help.

AGREE!

Seriously. Looking like a mutant for a few months is much better than melanoma. I am sure you are beautiful either way. My sister is a surgical tech for a skin cancer clinic and I am a Swedish blonde hair green eyes burn in the sun 100% of the time gal. All I get from her are lectures on the increasing incidence of skin cancer in the US. I seriously think tanning beds should be illegal. But that's just my opinion. Carry on.

I'm half Irish and Italian. I got all the Irish genes while my sister got all the Italian genes. She gets super tan so easily and I hate her for it. Luckily, I get super tan but I burn first.

That's the worst part about my sunburn... it's all for nothing. All that red will just peel right off and I'll be back to white again 😡🙄
