So, I don't really ever post on here (I just like reading the rants/raves threads). Anyways, I started working at a clinic about 4 months ago (my first job at a clinic). We just recently had another person join the work team, and I can't help but notice that the way I was treated by people when I first started is completely different than how the newest person is treated. It is nothing against him personally, we get along very well. I just don't understand why certain people make me feel like I'm imposing on them when I ask a question, but they are all too willing to answer it for the new person. I'm frustrated that he seems to be shown everything I've had to ask people over and over to teach me the whole time I've been there (and even things that I still haven't been shown). I realize I'm having a pity party, but I've been trying to have a good attitude about this but it is just super upsetting to feel inferior.
 
My biochem final is this Friday and I've barely done any studying this weekend. And I just got my grade back and botched the last exam. I need an 84 on the final just to get a B. Perhaps my first C in a class...

Also, less important, but the hard-drive in my housemate's PS3 decided to go berserk today and had to be reformatted and all the data was lost. I was getting so darn close to beating Demon's souls, now I have to start all over :laugh:

Kpowell, I have one of those professors that does two things in the same week, too. My last bio test is tomorrow and the final is on Friday. 🙁
 
So my SO has lived with the family of one of his friends for a few years now. They have two (adult) Boxers. The parents love the dogs but they have absolutely NO training- they go to the bathroom in the house despite having a doggy door and do a bunch of other stuff that some simple training would help immensely. The one dog is on phenobarb and recently started acting reeeeally weird, like staggering/falling down the stairs, all kinds of stuff. And my SO said they took her to the vet and they upped her dose. And then the parents went on a cruise for two weeks, leaving my boyfriend and one of their sons (who lives there full time) to watch this dog. Except the two sons (one living there and one supposed to be over at the house actually WATCHING the dog) are avoiding the house because there's dog urine/feces everywhere and its just a crappy place to live in genearl. So my SO is left to clean it up and make sure this poor dog isn't tumbling down stairs/etc.

Which makes me really angry for him and the dog. This isn't my boyfriend's dog, he didn't agree to take on its care while they were gone. He probably would have if they asked but its the principle of the matter :annoyed: He likes animals but not to the extent that people like us do, and I can tell he's frustrated dealing with this dog. We both just want to be able to get ourself a house now but we're saving until I'm in my fourth year. Sigh🙁

If I would have known I would lose three grandparents in my first semester of vet school, I would have deferred a year :uhno:
They just called to say my grandpa doesn't have much left 🙁
I'm so thankful I got to see him last week and give him a huge hug.

Thanks so much everyone. I had a feeling this would happen when he got pneumonia last week 🙁.
Trying to study for two exams this week just got a little tougher. I'm supposed to be housing an OOS interviewer this weekend coming up but may need to pass her off to someone depending on when he passes, funeral services, etc.
Who else can't wait till winter break?!?! :woot:
 
So they're pretty sure he won't make it through the night. My dad is a mess and I don't even know what to do. It's really hard to console dads 🙁

I'm so sorry, E. 🙁 I know where you are coming from. I didn't go see my granddad before he passed and felt immense guilt for a long time over it. I knew he wouldn't want me to see him like that (he was very sick) but guilt filled nontheless. My thoughts are with you.....stay strong, girl
 
There's a high arousal dog at work that's fine with everyone but me. For some reason he flat out hates me. Yesterday when I was feeding him he bit my wrist. That one was my fault--I saw him freeze but couldn't get out quickly enough. On the advice of behavior staff I kennel sat with him and gave him tons of high value treats and he was acting normal around me. Today he was still really good so I felt more comfortable with him. Stupidly I decided to feed him without closing his guillotine and he bit me in the face after giving no warning signs. I'm so frustrated that this dog hates me and is attacking me but is safe to be around everyone else. I don't want to be the reason he gets put down.

What if you aren't the only one? What if the adoptive family's child has the same trigger for him? I don't know if I buy that it's only you - it's only you that he's met so far. And biting (your face!) with no warning is pretty serious.

Of all the pets to weep over being PTS (because there are plenty out there) I'm not sure this is one of them...

But that's just my opinion.

He's been in the shelter for three weeks now and has been walked by volunteers for two weeks with no problem. (Volunteers do tend to not say negative things if they think the dog will get in trouble). From what I've seen it's only me the dog has a problem with. I actually had my favorite volunteer feed him yesterday after I got bit and there was no issue. You're right but I still feel bad about the whole situation.

I'm with you on this.
I think the shelter would be crazy (not to mention asking for a lawsuit) if they adopt this dog out.

I'm with TT on this as well. Any dog that's that unpredictable is going to go out and hurt someone badly, especially if they are inexperienced or worse, uninformed. And what if that person IS a small child?

Totally agreeing with you, and everyone else that has agreed on this as well. It takes a special person with specific skills and tons of patience to work with a dog like this... Unfortunately the majority of people do not have what it takes.. Very dangerous to adopt that dog out to anyone!!

I volunteer at a raptor rehab center that has a lot of non-releasable birds. We have a turkey vulture who acts completely normal around everyone except one long-time volunteer, who the vulture tries to bite every single time she goes near the enclosure - through the fence and everything. And this volunteer feeds the vulture more than probably anyone else! Sometimes animals just take a dislike to one or a few people.

I would agree though, that this dog is not a good candidate for adoption.

Yep, I speak from experience with this. We had a rottie at the shelter I volunteered at who I was putting back in her cage. I had to walk past a bunch of people to get there, and past a few dogs in their cages. I kept her on my left (close to the wall). She tried to get to the dogs and I wouldn't let her, so she turned around and bit me on the knee. I had put her in a bad situation, so I played it up as my fault to give the dog a chance. She was adopted out to a very experience rottie person, ended up biting, and needed to be euthanized. I'm still kicking myself for allowing her to be placed, but we gave her every opportunity and sometimes it still doesn't work out.

I feel the same way! Is anybody else freaking out? I hate the feeling of having no control over what happens to my application now. Before the deadline back in October I felt like I still had some power. Now within three weeks I'll know if I at least made it to interviews. 😱

I do, but its a lot more manageable now, even so that I am in vet school! I made a lot of lifestyle changes. I started taking certain vitamins that are thought to promote healthy CNS, eating really well, exercising a lot, and my boyfriend is really amazing at helping me when I'm anxious. There are a lot of good books out there on how to manage anxiety without taking meds. There is a book called the anxiety workbook-- that was helpful to find out what really caused my anxiety and helped me work through it. I did a lot of other stuff to help, too, and you can PM me if you ever need someone to talk to or need advice. I still have minor attacks, but nothing like before when I would be incapacitated for hours from fear and anxiety.

👍 I went through cognitive behavioral therapy to deal with my anxiety. It was hard but soooo completely worth it. Now I eat really healthy and exercise as well as get acupuncture quarterly. I am not on any meds these days 🙂
 
Guess whose dog most likely has a partial CCL tear that will most likely require a TPLO to fix? That's right, this girl. FML.

Update: Got a text from the 4th year on Sophie's case and they suspect there is some pathology to the CCL but not enough to warrant sx and there wasn't much of anything on her rads so meds and rest instead of surgery! So much stress was just lifted!

I have to yell at my younger cat all the time to stop playing in the litterbox. She loves to dig in the litter(I keep it pretty clean) and will spend 10 minutes in there digging if I let her.

...hope she has perfect manners then, otherwise you could have loads of fun with that! :laugh: if your dog drinks too loudly, i can just imagine what she'd have to say about our kitten's eating habits and noises!!🙄
 
I think she was just in a shotty mood, but I thought it was rather amusing :meanie:
It was her tone that was ridiculous.

I feel like I would have a decent shot in small claims court against her. Apparently in California if someone knowingly OR unknowingly provokes a dog they get substantially less money. I'm not a negligent owner - my dog was licensed and up-to-date on vaccines and his trainer (who's been training for 20+ years) said she would testify that he is not an aggressive dog or a threat to society. I don't know if it would make a difference but I have been heavily involved in dog rescue for 4+ years. I also attempted to handle the situation in an appropriate manner (urged her to go to urgent care, said I would pay the bill, etc). She, on the other hand, lives in a nice area, her husband drives a Lexus, and she doesn't have health insurance 😱

Still stressful though ...

I would absolutely ask for the exact bill from the place she received treatment from. That way you know she isn't trying to get more out of you. If she won't do that, I wouldn't be too keen on paying...

Not only will my husky get water all over the floor sometimes, then she'll look at you and howl like it's your fault :laugh:
 
Just found out that everyone else that is graduating in May with me that turned in their degree audit forms as gotten confirmation that they are good to graduate. I have not heard a peep. I've had so many problems with my advisor giving me bad info I'm really worried I'm not going to be able to graduation. Arg.
 
My dog just killed a giant creepy crawly bug in the hallway right. outside. my. bedroom.
I have no idea how it got in. Or where it's family lives. And now I can't sleep.

I hate bugs. especially big ones. that appear out of nowhere.

Probably right around 3/4 to 1inch in length. It was some kind of beetle, I think. . At first I thought roach and freaked out even more, but closer inspection (IE, ten feet away with a flashlight) didn't look quite right. At least, not compared to google images of roaches.


And to make my night even better, I went to move a bag of dog food that I stored in the guest room, and found a mouse sized hole in the bottom of it. Time to borrow a cat! At least the mice don't freak me out other than "get out of here!" reaction. I'm surprised my dogs havent been going nuts though. I'd blame them for the hole in the food bag, but its too small and delicate for them haha
 
Recently making changes to my diet: no milk because it makes me sick, no caffeine or sugar because they give me migraines, and no grocery shopping because I'm completely broke and don't get paid till the 10th. gah. looks like it's gonna be oatmeal and fiber one bars for me until pay day!
 
Called Aero Garden about my Christmas present. They cannot do anything for me. They could have done something if I called before my invoice was processed (darn thing did not go on sale until the day it was shipped to me). Still peeves me off that my item has been 50% off for sever days now. All they suggested is that I refuse the delivery and order it again. That seems like more of a pain seeing that it has been shipped internationally.

Also, a "real food" Facebook group I follow posted an ad from their sponsor... they sell a 1-3 gallon tank that grows your spinach from fish waste (without having to clean the tank ever!) Anyone that has ever did research on fish keeping knows how cruel and BS this product is. So I have been being very vocal about it on the post.
