So I was planning to do research this summer--had it all lined up with a professor and stuff. To apply, I'd need to meet a certain GPA cutoff. I don't think I'm going to get there the way finals are going. I emailed the head of the research program, and she said I could petition the committee to accept my application anyway (and I may get funding depending on how many awesome people there are that actually meet the requirements). And that a letter from my adviser would help. I am so embarrassed. I really don't want to tell my adviser that she has to find alternate funding for me because I'm too stupid to make this GPA cutoff. I feel so stupid, and I'm so upset right now. UGH. :cry::cry::cry:

have you looked at magicjack at all? a lot of us island kids use that because once you pay the yearly membership fee, its free and gives you a US number. soooo much better for me than skype and i love being able to just curl up in bed with my phone when chatting with people from home

Yall, the past year has been torture at the hospital I work at... I have Great doctors, but I swear this year has been full of rotten egg new-hires..

Over the summer a girl got fired for coming into work drunk... Not hungover, drunk as a skunk drunk... After that we lost 4 people in a 2 month span.. And they have just brought in new people within the past 2 months or so, which for the most part have been also rotten eggs, which leads me to today's rant....

Our newest tech came into work under the influence of something... He sat and stared at the computer screen for 20 minutes without moving... Then another coworker found a bottle of Alprazolam in plain sight in his lunch bag in the fridge... And wouldn't you know it that one of our Drs' drug drawer was open and a bottle was missing..

Leadership came in, sat him down... And on his way out the door he told another co worker that he would see them in 4 days... .... Your joking right... Leadership left without calling the cops, so my doctor called herself, filed a report, and I guess we will see where it goes from here... All I can say is wow. counting down the days till I'm outta there.

That is really BS NStarz. I'm sure your adviser would understand if you need her to write a letter saying that you're worth it.

I think my mean, aggressive 3 year old remaining gerbil may have a scent-gland tumor. I have no idea who to take him to (the exotics vet is hard to get an appointment with) and whether there will be much I can do for him since I cannot handle him without gloves. Poor guy. I am going to call my rat's vet and see if he is able to take a look at him.

My dad is a retired pharmacist, so I thought he might enjoy "learning" pharmacology with me next semester.... listening to the lectures, studying, taking mock exams...ya know something to share with me for once in his retirement.

So I figure I would have him download the audio files, and powerpoints to do so.

OMFG... what a disaster.
I didn't realize how truly computer illiterate someone could be but has still been using a computer.

He somehow had someone set up a laptop that boots up and goes straight into internet explorer and loads AOL.com. If you get out of it, it takes you BACK INTO AOL login screen. His only option in the windows start screen is to START internet explorer.

And his internet explorer had hyperlinks disabled😕

I could not even get to his desktop to access files.

What a freaking torture. I mean, he didn't even know how to change a file name or minimize a window, etc etc.

I burned through batteries on 3 of my rechargeable phones and finally gave up. Maybe I could do it in person... but honestly.. .someone set up an idiot box for him... and this is a lost cause.

I guess that even though he has used computers for 30+ years, they have always been canned programs, and he never really had to learn to navigate around in windows or other microsoft programs.

So around 8PM I tried to go to the gym and even checked the website to make sure it was still open, since I know on weekends school gyms tend to close a little earlier. Website said it was open until 10. So I get there a little after 8, and it's closed. Really annoyed because the website didn't say anything and I was in the mood for a good workout since I've been stress eating due to finals.

Very true. I got a C overall in Orgo II. Failed all but one test and the final, which I think I got a C in which saved me.


And once in vet school, you learn to like Cs.

Well it's nice to have some reassurance at least. I was managing just fine, and now senior year this first semester kicked my ass. Used my first class drop to get out of anatomy and probably got my first C in biochem I (depends on my final exam grade which I'm waiting on), and only got 11 credit hours done because anatomy was 4 hours. Oh well I guess...

I may get flak for this, but I am not a fan of breeders for the most part anyway. And no I don't mean all breeders, I don't want specific breeds to disappear! But you know, backyard breeders. They have a "purebred" what-the-****-ever so they decide to breed. So when someone breeds a mutt because it's "cute"...? God, that irritates me. Maybe because I work so closely with a few rescues but jeez...

I was just trying to be dramatic about the 9 dogs thing (even though it's kind of true), but I am sort of on the fence about it all. There are a handful of legitimate, good breeders out there but for the most part dogs come from puppy mills and backyard breeders (i.e. the root of the overpopulation problem) ... but you guys already know this 🙂

Bombing any test isn't the end of the world. I got a whopping 48% on my biochem final in undergrad, and I'm doing just fine in vet school. I also had my fare share of struggle with orgo. The only time I've actually used orgo in vet school is "this drug has an enantiomer that is more effective than the other" and maybe some stuff about steric hindrance. I don't even remember 95% of what I learned in orgo.

I'll force one of my dogs (who hates the rain) to come outside. He gets all low to the ground and hangs his head low. He quickly lifts his leg on the nearest bush and pulls me back inside.

Ok I need to rant about the roommate again and it's gonna sound biotchy but I have to get it out. She is taking 2 classes... statistics and con bio. She constantly stresses out about statistics (she's a PhD student ) and how she is so upset that her "grade is a 99.6% and not a 100%" ( That is an ACTUALY quote, not paraphrasing).

SHUT THE EFF UP!

She just waltzed in saying "Guess who got an A in statistics?!?!?!?!"



So I said "That's a surprise why?"
Her reply... "Well I was worried I was gonna get an A- "


She constantly brags about how smart she is and how awesome she is for getting such good grades and I want to smack her. She loves to compare our schedules... Um hun... I've taken 14 medical school classes to your TWO classes which BOTH allow her to have full page front and back typed cheat sheets , what is there to compare? 😕
It's just her personality that bothers me I guess. If she really struggled through these classes and it was a huge accomplishment for her, I would be thrilled for her. Please forgive me while I sit here and hatch up a plan to punch you in your sleep instead 😡

This is our first semester living together. She is a good roommate otherwise (besides decorating our entire apartment in butterflies and flowers, both of which make me want to vomit), and I can't afford to live alone. But now that you mention it, sometimes, like right now... she forgets I have ACTUAL things to study and she is blasting incubus in her room and singing to it. I'm so glad your difficult statistics class is completed and you can do nothing, but please be respectful of the fact that I still have 2 finals. To the library I go 😎

Just got off the phone from my dad who informed me that my beautiful dog of 12 years got out and got hit by a car last night, and passed away. Thankfully her injuries were massive and she would have passed very quickly. I knew her time was coming - she has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - but I didn't think it would be right now. I was really hoping to see her one last time - I arrive home in 6 days.

I mean, 6 days?! Cmon, world. You could have given me 6 days...

Thankfully her injuries were massive and she would have passed very quickly. I knew her time was coming - she has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - but I didn't think it would be right now. I was really hoping to see her one last time - I arrive home in 6 days.

Uveitis is back. This time with a vengeance. Headache which was constant for 10 days went away immediately after I started taking the prednisone for the uveitis. Which....if you know anything about pred....that is most definitely not a good thing. Apparently there is not only inflammation in my eye and eating my cornea but it is also in my brain. Fan-freaking-tastic.

(Although, I am enjoying being headache free for a while!)

There are a million things that could be causing this all. So, of course, I am stressing about the worst possible options. Unfortunately, there is labwork, MRI's, a CSF tap, and did I mention finals??, in between now and knowing what is going on. I'm frustrated and scared and weirded out.

My rant(very small in comparison): I'm so over migraines! I usually get them 6-7x's a year that are number 8 on a scale of 1-10(one was a 9.5, had to go to emergency for 4 shots before it started going away), so at least today I can be thankful that it was only around a 5. But I haven't had a single migraine for months! (small rave) No idea, at all, what the usual trigger is, it's been completely random, but yesterday's trigger was the friggin' SUN. 😡 And I was wearing sunglasses. 😕 Drove 20 miles to work to pick up my paycheck, on the drive back started seeing spots. By the time I cashed my check and went to get groceries, started getting dizzy(which has never been a symptom that I get, until now). I had to leave the store before finishing shopping. I should be thankful that this one was mild and only put me out for 15 hours, but it still sucked!

Fitness/health related rant:

When I signed up for the gym, the boyfriend paid for me to do 3 sessions with a trainer. I really like working with him.

My rant is that I cannot do a push-up on a bar, my body fat percentage is high-average and I have larger than average hips and and butt. If I was a little bit heavier, I would be at risk for all of the horrible things that run in my immediate family. It was a real wake-up call to me. I think the main reason why I am not overweight is because I am pretty good at avoiding junk food and I do not eat meat. I thought I was average and was okay with that. I am still okay with how I look. I am just disappointed at how weak I am.

On the positive side, if I budget, I can afford to do sessions with the trainer for the next 6 months (after that, it would be incredibly out of my budget if my loan payments are at their max) I am considering it for 3 reasons:

1) I went to the gym for 4 months by myself last winter. All I managed to accomplish was to lose 10 pounds and run a little better. I feel like I will see better results faster with a trainer.

2) I am not healthy. I need to see a doctor again. I am on meds to see if they help me. It has increased my energy levels at night but I am still exhausted when I wake up. Exercise will either not change it or it could help it. I have a feeling that with my recent weight gain and fatigue that it may be related to depression. We shall see.

3) I believe a slow metabolism. I am freezing cold all of the time. Exercising could only make this better.

Well, I USED to be relatively decent at it. But I subjected myself to a player that is messed up in his own right, so now I second guess everything. It's annoying.
