There's an older thread somewhere about LDRs. That might help too. 🙂

My rant: My throat is feeling funny and it's been getting worse for the last few hours. Starting to hurt. I really don't wanna get sick. D:

I've been in a 3,000+ mile long distance relationship for 3 1/2 years now. It's not easy, but its provided us with some amazing communication skills and a stronger relationship over all.

Me either! I've been lucky and haven't had any of whats been going around the last couple months. Now, last couple days, I've been losing my voice. I sound like a 70 year old smoker. 🙁

Thanks! I'm not really sure if he's going to want to do the long distance thing, but when the time comes for us to start discussing that sort of thing I will definitely take you up on your offer!

It was really tough on us too. But 6 months into vet school our relationship was the strongest it had ever been and now we're engaged. 😀
It's possible, just not for everyone. If you both want it bad enough, you can make it work. Hang in there.
 
I'm in the airport and so many people are hacking. One is this little about nosed, booger faced brat you is heaving these nasty wet coughs without covering his mouth. I so badly want to yell "teach your kid to cover his ****ing mouth!"

Hopefully, he won't learn to cover that cough with the palm of his hand spreading contagion all over commonly touched surfaces. XD
 
I'm in a LDR as are a good number of my OOS classmates. Whether it's going to work in the distant future is a question no one can truly answer. It works well for us because we're extraordinarily busy and wouldn't have much time for them if they were nearby. The problem presents itself as, they're usually not nearly as busy. Unless your SO is also in vet school somewhere else, or med school, they likely have many more hours in the average day than you will have until you're a vet.

If you're concerned about cheating or dishonesty, realize your being away isn't likely to cause or contribute to that. Bad behavior usually has little to do with one being far away from their SO. Now may be the only time we can feel okay, thinking about our wishes first. Without familial responsibilities, following our dreams sans worry about spouses and kids, mortgages and careers is a reality.

Ask yourself this - If you'll kick yourself to the curb later for not leaving the comforts of your SO closeby now, the relationship you have with your SO might not be enough to quash your anger of walking away from a career as a vet.
 
Abney, are flights still going out today? Everything is shut down on the west side of MN. Not even snow plows are out. 🙁

that is no bueno. Feel better soon. I have had many bouts with bronchitis, but not yet on the pneumonia (or perhaps I am just too stupid/stubborn to go to the doctor and find out.). Now is your pneumonia lobar or interstitial, or alveolar (I should remember something about this, but I hated pulmonary pathology).

Good question, not sure. Said it could be just bronchitis, but because it's just on one side and I can feel it it's probably pneumonia. i don't have a fever at the moment so it's not really bad. I probably just caught it really early and I would have been down and out tomorrow. It just started really feeling bad this afternoon. On antibiotics now at least.

I hate being a girl. TMI warning. haha

As rarely as I ever feel like this, when it does happen, it sucks so much. The implanon mostly keeps the pain away from that time of the month, but when it doesn't, I feel so. horrible. My back, stomach and head hurt right now and I feel really nauseous. And like I'm about to cry. I'm so happy this doesn't happen often. I wish I could just go to bed right now, but it looks like this ochem lab stuff is gonna keep me up another hour or two. I wish I had something here to take to make me feel better. 🙁
 
ugh i reallllly miss my best friend right now 🙁 it was my decision to end our friendship back a couple of months ago, but it doesnt mean i dont wish things could be different :-/ blah
 
I'm trying to sell my Garmin on kijiji (similar to Craigslist, but Canadian) and I'm getting bombarded with emails with ridiculous offers. Apparently people don't care if you include "price is not negotiable" in your ad?? Asking if I'll accept $5 when it's listed at $25 is just a big waste of my time...:lame:👎

Anyone else have these kinds of problems selling stuff on the internet?
 
Ugh... I was doing so well.. but suddenly tonight my chest is tight and my heart is racing (120 beats/min, while laying down)... Hoping tonight is a fluke and everything will be happy and acting normal again tomorrow. :xf:

I always get the email from the guy in Dubai that is "very interested in the item I have for sale".
 
other dr runs in: "did you change the name on this one pet" (in stern voice that is not quite yelling)
me: "no - I've been euthanizing a gerbil" looks at gerbil that is recently deceased and goes back to finishing paperwork
other dr: "Look, I'm not accusing you but everyone else said no, too. And somebody had to do it. Before I went in the room, my name was on it and now it's not."
me: "I just sat down at this computer to work on the paperwork/notes for the gerbil"
other dr: "well someone changed it"

Uh, yes, you are accusing me. And then you wonder why I don't want to approach you when there ARE problems. Stop being a jerk and understand that I had no reason to change your name. The person with the gerbil was with ,e. You could even ask her if I had touched the computer before you came roaring in.😡

Ugh, whenever I have sold something on Craigslist I have gotten the low-low ballers. That, or someone saying they are out of the country but will pay to have the item shipped to xyz place (had that for an old bed I was selling for $50). Could you sell it on Ebay? I tend to have more luck on there then Craigslist.

I want to go to the zoo tomorrow (where I volunteer as a tech) but my damn lung is not cooperating! I missed out last Thursday because I was blowing snots everywhere and now this damn pneumonia is ruining everything. I feel fine when I'm on the couch but going up the stairs makes me short of breath and want to pass out. I love the zoo 🙁

I am really starting to freak out about fourth year preceptors. I have called and/or emailed nearly 2 dozen practices over the past few weeks. I can count the number of actual responses I have gotten on one hand. And all of those responses pretty much said - we are already booked, we don't have room for another person, no room in the truck so you can't go on road calls, etc. I'm running out of ideas on what practices to try. And I've already ventured about 200mi outside the area I wanted to go to. I have to find at least 2 practices willing to take me on this fall and it's starting to feel like its not going to happen 🙁


And I really need to update my references on my resume, and the clinician I want to ask keeps evading me. I thought I had her cornered today, and figured I'd talk to her after class and she slipped out early! So naughty

I keep telling myself that if I just ignore them they will schedule themselves. I have one scheduled and another the vet said I could do one there but that was before we got our dates so I'm still trying to figure that out. My last one that I want has already turned Rob down so I'm scared to call them.
 
I've got a fever, aches, sore throat, coughing, ridiculous fatigue, chills and sweats and then chills again yet every time I manage to doze off I scare myself awake thinking my phone is ringing with a call from Madison or buzzing with a new email from MN. The only plus side is that my cat refuses to leave me alone- keeps purring and curling up with me and nuzzling me.

I can't imagine being sick during what seems to be the most stressful month of the application cycle for most people! Hope you feel better soon. But I agree, cats make everything better 🙂 After staring at my phone for the past few days and checking it obsessively for missed calls, I've found it's better to just walk away from it. If I miss a call, it's not like the acceptance is going away...it's hard though!
 
We magically had an extra hour to sleep in today. This girl gets up bright and early and doesn't realize it until she's half ready for class. Way to take advantage of the ONE opportunity of extra sleep. 🙄 Nice job Emiloo, nice job.
 
Silly kitten has been acting funny the last few days, so I got some testing done today since she had to go to the vet anyways for vaccines. We were hoping her levels were just high due to dehydration, but it's not so. Kidney problems again. Testing now to see just how bad. 🙁

Update on silly kitten:

Looks like she's ok. No change in food and just getting her tested again in a few months.

They think the reason she's acting weird might be her unique way of being in heat. haha
 
Yesterday I was really dizzy and was hoping it would go away. When I woke up this morning I was getting a migraine but I wasn't dizzy so I went to shadow my vet. Everything was cool until I left for lunch and the road started tilting. That was the scariest drive of my life. I wish it would go back to normal.

The only way I can get rid of them is take 3 ibuprofen and go to bed, praying I don't get nauseous before the ibuprofen has metabolized.
 
I might murder this guy at work. He deserves it. Don't interrupt my last minute cram session.

This is my exact coping method WS. If the nausea happens, day is ruined.
