It is a point of contention, currently

My job: if you don't want to clean when you have down time or at the end of a shift, bye!

I think I am going to have some nice abs by the ends of summer with all of this mopping.

Yeah, we've had some issues with that since we've been short-staffed. It will start happening now that we have a more complete staff. But we would have had to overwork everyone to do that earlier.

One of the clinics I used to work for was like this, except that rule only applied to the assistants. The techs were allowed to sit and play games on their iPads all day if it was slow, but the assistants got in trouble if they stopped even for five minutes, even if it was to briefly talk to the techs about something work related.

The double standard always made me SO mad. 😡

The clinic that I worked at you were expected to be working if you were on the clock. If it was slow, then it was time for "spring cleaning". If there was not much "spring cleaning" then the office manager or vets would find something for you to do and trust me they always found something. I spent an afternoon painting a few exam rooms. We had a kennel tech every night that would vacuum and mop and clean counters and kennels and things. But the hospital was expected to be clean and tidy before we left each night and we were expected to help the kennel tech if we got done with our tasks early. I spent plenty of times running the vacuum and mopping. It wasn't my favourite task but it was necessary. Clients like to see a clean hospital and we had many clients come to us saying that one of the reasons they left their previous vet was due to a dirty clinic.

They weren't super strict about the "always working" it was just expected that if you wanted to talk and socialize that you be doing work whilst talking... folding drapes, surgical gowns, wrapping surgical packs, cleaning shelves. They didn't care if you talked or had a little fun as long as we were still working or didn't get distracted for too long.

Yeah, the PP I was at was frustrating sometimes. Id watch techs pull catheters out and throw them on the floor. Or use gauze for whatever reason and just leave bloody gauze on the floor. We only had an assistant in the evening so they'd just leave it there until the assistant got there. I would always go back and tidy up because I felt bad and it was totally embarassing for clients to see!

Thermometers with poo covered slips left on them was also awesome.🙄

Or the garbage can that was so full it was overflowing and ppl kept throwing things at it so there was nasty trash everywhere.

The whole "well that's someone elses job, so I shouldn't have to do it" mentality was detrimental to tge image of the hospital and drove me nuts.

My work is a two doctor practice and one of them is out of town today and tomorrow. I took this time to clean stuff that I know needed to be cleaned since it was so slow. I wiped down all the walls in the exam rooms, wiped down half the counters in prep and pharmacy, cleaned 2 of the bathrooms we have, cleaned the ultrasonic because its coverings were getting gross, and cleaned up after a super bloody dental. This is on top of my normal cleaning duties. The doctor had the nerve to say to the coworker that had come in later that she didn't know why the clinic was such a mess because we had nothing to do all day. I don't know the context of this comment because a coworker was talking to me prior to hearing it, but nontheless it didn't make me happy, especially since the coworker she was talking to NEVER CLEANS. So frustrating...

Attending a funeral for the first time tomorrow....

🙁 I'm sorry. These are never, ever a good experience for me. Some people find closure in them, others find that it just upsets them more. I hope you find some sort of closure. :luck:

This is a constant struggle at my clinic... the techs are expected to clean the entire place and as someone who is there more for the animal/vet experience than I am for the paycheck it's a little frustrating. I hate cleaning. Especially when you've been wrestling with dogs and cats for 8 hours and then get to look forward to sweeping and mopping 1500 square feet. One of the many reasons I could never be a tech as a career... 😛

And this is a reason I LOOOVE my new job! We are a 9000 sq foot hospital.. We are too busy to really deep clean the hospital most days/ nights so we have a cleaning crew that comes in 4 days a week to do the cleaning!!! Soo amazing! We are about add on an additional 3000 sq feet so the hospital is going to be a dusty mess!!

I work at a hospital that's super busy but not insanely big - 5 doctors. We're responsible for keeping counters clean and organized but a cleaning crew comes in every night and mops/sweeps, cleans the bathroom, etc.

That sounds like a perfect compromise. I have no problem keeping the counters, tables, cages, supplies, etc. clean it's the mopping, bathroom, and sweeping that bores the heck out of me (and obviously also my co-workers, judging from the cleanliness of the floors when I walk in in the morning 🙄 )

I see a 7 day a week cleaning crew in our near future. We currently have 20 doctors ( including 5 interns ) and they are looking for another oncologist and internal medicine specialist at the moment. I seriously don't know how we will manage once they finish our remodel. There aren't enough hours in the day or enough free people to clean the hospital as it is lol

The Morris PO can suck it. First you say, hey your truck's tabs are expired and you have a couple flat tires on it. The city deems it junk and will tow it, get tabs on it. Fine. I got tabs on it, thought all was good.

Just got woken up with them banging incessantly on my door telling me I have 24 hours to get the tires replaced or they tow it. ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME?!
1) That's NOT what you said before
2) Tomorrow is Saturday *******s
3) It's planting season, all tire places around here are busy in the fields unless you have an appointment.
4) I do NOT have the money for this.
5) And then he tells me, well then you can park it on the street. I don't WANT to park it on the street, which is why it is in my own ****ing driveway!

Hold up, your truck is in your own driveway and they're giving you **** for having flat tires? How on earth does that work? My brother fixes cars for friends and always has a few non-working cars in his driveway. But you know, he's allowed to because it's HIS driveway. I would think parking it on the street would be more of a problem.

Stupid county/city ordinances and codes. In my area cars have to be registered and in working order. Had to keep my jeep backed in so code trucks couldn't read my tag. But 2 streets over is unincoorporated and there are cars taken apart everywhere. I must admit that that area is considered the run down "ghetto" of the area. I used to live there so I can't talk trash. I understand somewhat why the law are the way they are, but its a pain for regular people who just can't afford to register recreational vehicles(like me) and those like wolfspeaker who can't afford new tires right away.

Edit: you would think that they would rather have the truck in your driveway and not on the street? That's stupid.

I guess that makes some sense (in that they don't want dozens of half taken-apart cars on everyone's front lawns, ruining their property value  ) but it still ruffles my feathers in a sort of "you want me to do what with MY property while it's sitting on MY property?!" way, which if you know me at all is sort of funny because that's not how I usually lean politically. I guess my brother mostly works on cars in his garage which is behind his home. Or perhaps his city ordinances are slightly different.

Still. Thumbs down to the PO in your area, wolfspeaker 👎

UGHHHH

I just vomited infront of the whole library and barely made it to the trash can.🙁

Put in my headphones to listen to a lecture and the sounds was muffled. Turned up my laptop's volume and the videos volume. Still muffled. I took off my headphones and examined them.

THE EARBUDS WERE CAKED IN HAIRY EARWAX. CAKED.

I just. I cant even. The only thing I cannot stomach is human earwax and mucus/snot. I just cant.

Lost my lunch and I am never letting SO borrow my headphones again.

so my city-urban-brain is missing a step here or something that makes that bolded sentence actually make sense beyond fields for growing tires. what do tire stores do with fields?

 All tire technicians are UBER busy this time of year, going out to fields and replacing/fixing tires on tractors and farm trucks. If you don't have an appointment a week ahead of time, you usually can't get in last minute.

I live in farming central, USA town of 5k people.

This makes me sad and mad at the same time. 2 year old girl at a sled dog kennel got attacked by a dog. She lived thankfully. I don't know what the parents were thinking bringing a little girl like that into a dog yard. As good as huskies can be, they can also be vicious. I'm sort of sad that the dog will likely be put down, any sled dog could have done what it did. It just proves that parents have to be super aware of what these dogs are capable of, they are athletes. Especially these Iditarod dogs.

My best friend was diagnosed with breast cancer today. I don't know all the details because she called and left a message while I was working and work was crazy busy and understaffed as usual. I haven't been able to get ahold of her yet... I don't even know what else to say. I'm just at a loss for words.🙁

One of my friends baby's momma "rescued" a baby raccoon from the side of the road last night. They brought it home and apparently its her and her new boyfriends new "pet". They have an 8 month old and a 5 year old in the house.

I can't handle the stupid.

=( oh no. Best wished to your best friend. I hope they caught it early.

She lives in north florida and had it with her when they just met for kid exchange in central florida. Thankfully my friend has his 8 month old. He has scratches on him and I told him to take him to the hospital asap and his dr backed up my advice. He's in contact with the other kids dad and the proper authorities.

She told him that she ws gonna go get it vaccinated at a vet.....I just...I can't handle the stupid right now.

He called me as soon as they drove away and I freaked out. He shouldn't of let her leave with theolder kid but he isn't the father so he has no rights.

You can get a free permit for a raccoom if you purchase from a licensed breeder in FL...but clearly its wild.

Oh lord. Have them look up the definition of "zoonotic". It might enlighten them... Raccoon ringworm, rabies, lepto, anyone? 😉

In this county, it is unlawful to feed a raccoon, too.

She's a new breed of terrible. We all warned him. Terrible mother and person. She doesn't care.

Uuuhhh... Did you remind her that not only could it possibly carry rabies but they are known for carrying round worm? She really needs to take it to a wildlife center so it can go back to the wild when it's ready.

Haven't seen my bf for three weeks. He's visiting my house for the weekend. We only have a few days together and I don't know when I'll get to see him again after this. Apparently that doesn't matter though, because he's done nothing but sleep all day. No, he's not sick or overtired, just really effing lazy.

He's slept 15 hours so far today, and apparently I'm supposed to just sit and twiddle my thumbs and just wait for him to wake up.

I can't even tell him how incredibly mad this is making me because my mom is sitting 10 feet from the couch he's currently napping on and I really don't want to have an argument in front of her. 😡😡😡

Wake his butt up! If he complains, explain that you actually want to hang out with him since you haven't seen him in almost a month. If he can't handle that then he can just leave. No reason to put up with that.

I've tried many times. He acknowledges me and then goes back to sleep. I would love to just pick up the couch and drop his lazy butt on the floor, but don't think that would go over well with my mom sitting there. 🙄

They'll soon learn. :meanie: (they get into everything!)

(besides what everyone else has already said of course)

I'm sure it will be dead by then. Its just a novelty pet until they get dis-enchanted with it. Her and her mother have 2 animal cruelty convictions in north florida.

The kids father has explained everything I've told him and she's twisted it like he is just jealous. I wish I could explain how unbelievably cruel and terrible she is. FL caters to the mother as far as custody cases go...so that's why she wtill has custody.

Fellow vet students: If you are looking for OHE experience, I offer my uterus. Please help🙁

They're involved. But won't do anything about it until it physically harms the kids. It bit the older kid yesterday so now she has to get rid of it and he's with his father now.

Sooo, in light of that, I'm seeing a great opportunity here with this raccoon.

TAKE PICTURES of her and the kids with this raccoon. Then show a judge. She is putting her kids in danger even AFTER being told of the dangers.

Why would anyone bring a raccoon into their home :smack:

Glad she needs to get rid of it.

Good!

CPS favors the mothere in FL, idk about other places though. The CPS investigator said that the mother prettymuch has to be putting the childs life in grave danger for them to be taken away.

It sucks, but it is reality because I remember how hard it was and how things had to get in my home for my dad to finally get custody of me.

There has been a handful of incidents before this and they have all been documented. Their court case is in less than a month and I hope he gets his kid.....she is seriously crazy.
