RANT HERE thread

I love my dad and all but he doesn't understand why I have pets. He thinks of pets as just an extra, unwanted responsibility. He keeps telling me this is a terrible time to have pets (I have had my one cat since I was eleven and adopted a cat a few months ago from the shelter I volunteer at after he had been there two and a half months), even saying that it might be a good thing if my fish die so I don't have to worry about moving it for college! 😕
Anyways, he's really making me feel guilty about owning my pets, even though I pay for their vet checks and food and such and I feel like I have been a responsible owner. It's really frustrating and I don't like others making me feel bad about decisions they don't agree on and that I can't change but I can't really tell him off consider he's helping me a ton with school costs. This has been bugging me and I'm glad I have somewhere to rant about it 🙂

Really need all the good ju-ju you can send me and my Mojo. Things are not good for him right now.

I didn't realize how much having a baby wrecked my body until I worked out tonight for the first time since having Baby Liss. I'm going to be so sore tomorrow. I've got a long road ahead of me to get my body where I want it to be.

How old is Baby Liss? My Baby Marxist just turned 3, and I am traveling that long road (got a late start, lots of turmoil in my personal life). Just about to go out for a few miles run, actually...I wore a bikini for the first time in 3 years last week.

I have 4, my body is wrecked beyond recognition. Although, being a physically active person makes it easier.

I think I have a mouse in my flat. I was getting ready this morning and I saw this gray flash scurry from under the bed, across the floor, out the door and turn towards the stairs... I didn't see anything again this morning but it definitely looked like a mouse.

We have a little striped lizard/gecko/thing in our living room who I see occasionally - he's pretty welcome as long as he eats any stray bugs. He lost a tail to the cat yesterday though...

3 gems from my roommates this morning. It's important to note that I'm vegan, they are not, and also that we have three full sets of cookware in our kitchen.

They made steak fajitas last night, no problem whatever folks can eat what they want. BUT, this morning I found my favorite chef's knife soaking in the empty flank steak container on the counter. First I'm annoyed because they're using my knives to cut raw meat, and second because they left it soaking in liquid overnight. wtf guys.

Then after I washed it and all I went to unload the dishwaser, and found my cast iron skillet inside it. So they not only used my skillet to cook their steak, they then ran it through a hot wash cycle, stripping off the seasoning and thoroughly screwing it up. x__x

Baby Liss is only 3.5 months. Of course I had her right before bathing suit season.

Ugh, yesterday stunk for me.

So I start off going to a friend's house around noon- and he literally played this game that I let him borrow for the whole three hours I was there. I told him I had to go home because I was so close to slapping him it wasn't even funny.

I'm literally at home for thirty minutes when I have a friend of mine sending me texts about how my UG's bookstore is coming after her for a rental she kept and she needs them to send her transcripts to places and all that jazz but her dad won't let her drive there because she has a drug addict ex that she was dating there (which, apparently he's in detox now, but her dad made a condition of her getting community college paid for her not to talk to him, which she still does). So, knowing this, I decide, "Eh, what the hell, I'll drive you over there!"

We run her errands and now it's about 4:50 and I'm like "Hey, I need to check with the Business Office and be sure they straightened out my stuff." So we start walking towards the office and I'm literally less than 20 feet from the door when this sharp-featured old lady cracks open the door, sees us, and locks the door.

I drive to the gas station and we get slushies and go back to her house, when she's like, "Oh snap I have Bible study in like an hour." So I say, since I haven't seen her in a while, "Hey, I'll go with you!" When we stroll inside her dad is there and they get into a financial spat while I'm just sitting there eating dinner with the other siblings and the stepmother.

We have to follow her dad since she's got four siblings and my car stalled trying to get out of her driveway- he didn't even hold up for us. After driving around for a while we finally find the house. And the subject is, I couldn't make it up, "how should Christians deal with being offended/angry".

So of course my friend manages to make a jab from the gate at her father and it just gets so many flavors of crazy. I'm agnostic, so when they were talking about "dealing with non-Christians" I just wanted to shrivel up and die some.

After this exchange and service, we have to drive home. My car stalls seven times getting her home- once on the highway. It's raining and all sorts of nonsense and we finally show up at her house in the torrential rain at 8:30.

And then I'm pretty much told when I walk in that I have to go home in an hour. I stay in, thinking it's just a concentrated cell and that it'd pass by the time 9:30 came.

It sure didn't! I hopped in that car after they gave me a poncho, stalled once getting out of her driveway, and drove in less than a quarter mile visibility. It took me a solid 25 minutes to get there since I was trying to stay on the road and not stall.

Now, I left for her house at 3:30. I have a brother and two dogs that are also at home at the time. My brother never tells me his work schedule- so I figured that since his store closes at 9:30 that he would be home.

Nope! Not a single new light was on and his car wasn't there- I had to parallel park between trees in the pitch dark and stormy weather.

I unlock the back door and go inside- the dogs are elated, but then my phone starts exploding with all these messages and missed calls. It was this girl that I've been helping out with discussion posts; I proofread and edit her original stuff because her writing is atrocious. She's hounding me to help her and I'm so ready to throw my stupid phone in the rain.

So I help her, I have the dogs run outside and come back inside, and my brother finally blows in at 10:30 and just says "Hey," as he runs upstairs to go to bed.

I'm furious, but I can't yell at him- he's got some serious rage issues and I'm the only other one here. My mom comes back later today, thank heavens. So I go sleep in the bonus room because I had to gut all my stuff two weeks ago from the dresser because my sister wants the furniture.

Thanks for listening to me whine. ^^

obviously they can wait until you're out of school and can treat for free! (or so an acquaintance of mine tells me..) :scared:😕

I don't want to even go there with them but I'm sure it's in the back of their minds... 🙄

Yeah, back home we have little clear/see-through leopard gecko things that live right outside our house. They would get in on occasion but I didn't mind them.

Mice are different, they will keep breeding and keep coming back, and they don't eat bugs, they eat your food and leave poop everywhere. So, while I think mice are cute (I have pet rats, I like rodents), wild mice aren't welcome in the flat. It is odd though, because I see no sign of there being a mouse or mice problem in this flat at all, only the gray blur that scurried by me earlier today . I am going to keep an eye out. If anything, I think they would want to eat the rat food, so I have put that up higher than it was to make it harder for a mouse or mice to get to.

I drove an hour across the lake this morning to hang out with some HS friends, and then no one actually came to meet me. So now I'm at lunch alone and I'm just going to skip the movie we were going to see (I've already seen it, it was just an excuse to hang out). And obviously this makes me feel great when I'm already miserable about losing my college friends and bf and am convinced I'm going to die alone and all that.

Aw hell no. I woulda cut a bitch.

Super silly rant: I made a dozen pickled eggs yesterday morning... they're supposed to sit in their jar for at least three days before you eat them to, well, pickle.

I think there's five left in there? Maybe six? Between my SO and I there's no way they're going to make it to three days.

Mine too 🙁 It's gonna be a ****ty couple of weeks and I'm tired of being made to feel like I'm worth the dirt I walk on.

Belt test in Krav Maga tonight, and of course I get paired with the idiot who tried to choke me out during the last stripe test. Tonight he was whaling on me full force, but at least this time I expected it and gave it right back to him. Except at one point he was supposed to push me with the pad ONCE as I was getting up from a ground defense. Instead he just started beating me back down to the ground with the pad repeatedly, to the point where I just laid on the ground with my arms crossed, rolling my eyes until the instructor finally called him off. Seriously, wtf?!

Oh, and while we were doing roundhouse kicks he kept his middle finger up the entire time. :eyebrow: I don't know if he was flipping me off or he actually is stupid enough to believe that makes him look more badass. Either way, I seriously hope his ego gets him into a real fight someday, because anyone with half an ounce of brains in their head will grab that finger and break if off. :meanie:

On the plus side, I advanced to my next belt. 😀

Yeah thats a really hard situation. My dad gave me flack about my horse for A LONG time. I purchased him in college and paid for him myself. Its difficult to convince people that animals are necessary in some peoples lives. Yes they are a huge responsibility but they also give back to you and some people don't get that. Just keep chugging along listen to him when in talks but just let it roll off.

Side note. My dad stopped bugging me when my horse came down with a very rare juvenile form of cancer. He stood by me and held me when I bawled my eyes out and cried with me, when I euthanized him. Despite all of my dads flack he always knew how much my horse meant to me. I wouldn't be surprised if your dad does understand, but is trying to be mister reasonable, devils advocate dad.

I'm sick of studying for my orgo test that's in the morning.......that is all.

😛

Someone just asked me if I knew how to neuter cats. 😱 NO! They are trying to find a cheaper alternative to taking it to a vet and figure that if they can band their calves neutering a cat can't be much different🙄

🙄 some people are idiots. It's not expensive to bring in a male for neutering.

I've had such a crappy few days. Summer quarter sucks, especially taking the credit limit with two part time jobs and a toddler. I'll make it, I think... Right?

But anyways, I had a (fairly well contained) anxiety attack during a midterm today. I've had them often since I was a kid, but never during a test. My instructor was incredibly rude about it too. Not her problem, I know, but she didn't have to be so effing condescending.

Ohh I'm sorry EC! That's really crappy of them, bailing on you like that. I hope you at least got a good lunch!

Thanks, MysteryCat. The lunch was good (pho soup and Thai iced tea!). And hopefully one of my friends (whose birthday was kind of close to mine) is going to set up a birthday thing and people will actually come to that.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem! For a while he was on the idea that I should consider being a person doctor rather than a vet too, but I got him to stop bugging me about that so hopefully he'll realize that I'll never stop having pets eventually.

Ugh, just got a phone call from the allergist saying they found a mistake in my patient form from yesterday and I need to come back to sign it again. I live 40 minutes away and they know that. It's probably my fault too because I had to look through it and sign it, but they were in the middle of testing me for allergies and pricking me, so I was a bit distracted.

Spent a fun evening with my roommate now that he is home from out of town. He went to go to bed and got mad because one of my dogs peed on his bathroom floor. I don't know how they got in there because we always keep a baby gate up when he is gone. Roommate wouldn't let me clean it up and now is insinuating that either my bf or I were in his room when he was gone. We weren't. It upsets me that he doesnt trust us. Now I get to tiptoe around him for a week. Awesome.

Don't you just love roommates sometimes? Hopefully he'll get his head out of his butt and stop making things awkward soon. If not, might as well pretend he doesn't exist if he's going to act like a child. Yes, a dog peed on his most likely tile floor but then refused to let you clean it up. He lost rights to complain about it right there.

On to my rant, I'm sure we all have that one client that you want to smack if you could get away with it. That one came in today and I refused to talk to her before I had to because she's always a witch (changed because I don't want mad moderators). She brought her 100lb golden in for anal gland expression and he was excited so I was helping corral him onto the scale by tapping his butt and she told me to stop in the shortest tone of voice. She then got upset because she wasn't allowed to come with her dog. Why would you want to anyway? It's smelly and it stresses the dog out more if the owner's around and we're doing stuff to them. I knew it was going to happen though because she's the same woman that refused to tell me what was going on with her cat when she brought it in months ago and that she'd wait for the doctor. Um, part of my job is letting them know what they're walking in to and she got all huffy when I told her I needed to know. This is why I like animals more.

I left a needle on my coffee table a couple days ago after using it while experimenting with my macro lens. I guess it didn't want its picture taken and got its revenge by rolling on the floor and hiding in the carpet for me to find with my foot today. Ow.

Just made my first grocery shopping trip for the new apartment. Spent way too much money. When I was carrying the bags in, two of them ripped and out came glass bottles of olive oil, snapple, and queso dip 😡 Went back and cleaned up the glass and food but now I'm in a bad mood. May or may not have gone through a handful of the beers I just bought...:meanie:

I'm sorry 🙁 But you have beer!!!! So that's a plus 😉

We should have an SDN meetup when everyone gets settled!

Yes hmm... beer is good  and wine, but I'm saving that for a rain(ier) day.

And I agree! We need an OSU SDN meet-up.. Wonder if anyone else is living at our apartment complex?

All OSU vet students live here in Heritage apartments in Grandview -- if you're in that complex it shouldnt be too hard to arrange a meetup.

Nope, we're at Runaway Bay. But the Class of 2016 arranged a Picnic/get together for our class and theirs to meet up and they are hosting it here, so that's convenient!

Where is that?! Is it close to the College?

My parents give me hell about getting a dog ... I dont live with them and I'm married for goodness sake

Just outside of Upper Arlington/Grandview area off 5th ave. I think its about a 15 min drive to school, but NStarz would know better than me. I haven't actually driven directly to school yet from my apt. From what I've heard, a good number of vet students live here too.

OH! Okay yeah you're really close to Heritage, all you'd have to do is get on Northwest, turn onto Chambers, left onto Kenny and the right on Woody Hayes then Coffey rd to get to the vet school.

Stb--you should stop by sometime and say hello. 🙂 I'll be around all day tomorrow if you want to take a break from unpacking craziness.

I need more money. I actually have a paying internship now but I'll have to wait another two weeks to get my first paycheck. Since the advent of direct deposit, I don't see the point in this delay anymore. Luckily, I'm making $15 an hour so it will be a nice amount even if I have to wait.

I need more money because I like to shop. Working in an office with a dress policy that doesn't allow jeans and other casual wear necessitated a bit of a spending spree. Can I list "shopping" as a hobby on my vet school application now?

Speaking of which, I'm not happy with some of the changes made to the VMCAS application this year. I don't like that I can't classify my research hours as also veterinary experience. I don't want to mark the "I do not have research experience" box, but I also don't want to lose nearly 500 hours from the vet experience section. Sure diversity of experience is good, but I'm not entirely convinced that vet hours alone won't be used to weed out applicants. VMCAS was not helpful when I queried them about this dilemma.

I am speculating, but I am sure this change was at the behest of the schools.
You are under-estimating adcoms if you think they didn't already notice these details in the past....now they are just asking YOU to do the work of separating them, so they don't have to do it manually themselves.

I doubt there will be much of a change, if any, in how a particular application is treated.

I have worked with adcoms, they SCRUTINIZE every app (usually), and you weren't pulling the wool over anyone's eyes (not implying you were trying to - sorry).
