Trilt, sorry to hear about your parents. That is very hard to deal with, even if you aren't living with them any more. I also hope your little brother is able to adjust ok and it doesn't effect him too much.
 
most ridiculous rant ever!
i messed something up in Word earlier while writing and formatting my surgery report and now i can't see my top and bottom page margins. i have them on the sides, i can see them if i go to full screen reading or pretend to print, but in normal print lay out they're just gone. the ruler goes from 1-10. where are my margins?!?! all my settings appear to be normal and i've tried tinkering around with stuff to no avail! how can i be expected to study if i'm busy staring at the terrible uneven-ness!

ETA; jk my amazing engineer friend fixed it 😀 crisis solved!
 
I have a cold, and my sinuses are full and it feels like my head is going to explode. I was up half the night with a pounding sinus headache. Now I'm sitting in a mandatory lab, which is just a repeat of a lecture on fluid therapy that we had last year.

I just went all bug-eyed and tried to remember the last time I saw the ruler thing. I'm sure there's a way to make it show but the newer office just has margins settings - 'narrow', 'normal', or 'wide'. The latter is useful for making crap like charts or tables fit better

I'm going through some lectures on muscle pathology and it's just the most boring ppts ever. Blerg.

this is office 2010? ruler is take it or leave it for me, the even margins are apparently a must :shrug:

i usually drop my margins to 0.5 for study guides to maximize the space but whatever thing i hit last night said to eliminate the white space on the top and bottom of the page

Thanks 🙂 it's quite the long story. Basically they want to use my apartment because their daughter is moving in. They offered me BD's old place attached to the barn but it comes with a bunch of stipulations that I'm not comfortable with. In my mind, it's more of a rented room with a shared kitchen/bathroom.

Addendum to my original rant: found what appeared to be the perfect solution. Furnished, all utilities included, same monthly rent, basically all that I have now but closer to school. Aaaaand it's a scam. 😡😡😡

WTF? That soon? They didn't know about this two months ago? 😱 Are they offering you any kind of compensation for the hassle of moving again?

So far, not yet. I only found out yesterday and basically told them I was in the middle of midterms and it was not open to discussion at the moment.

To them, it's no big deal for me to be moving into the other apartment. To me, it's a huge hassle. And, I'm NOT okay with large amounts of people traipsing through there. They use the kitchen and bathroom of the barn apartment for hot chocolate and cookies after sleigh rides. So like I said, it's basically a room rental. A very expensive room rental.

We're supposed to chat about it next week. I agreed to *look* at the other place (I've never seen it in person). I plan to make somewhat of a stink about it but I have to be careful because we have no rental agreement, so I have nothing to fall back on. 🙁

I really need a furnished place and unfortunately the ads listed are either way more than I can spend, or don't allow pets, etc. If you see anything, send it my way!!
 
Technically you should be getting two months notice. That was the agreement when we moved in there. If you put your foot down, you could probably buy yourself another month at least.

That whole place is bad new bears. I'm sorry that I ever recommended it, now that it's turned out to be such a PITA.

Edit: I sent you the link for my new place on Facebook. It says they don't allow pets, but that's really just for tourists. They made an exception for my cat, and they probably would for your bird too. 🙂

DVMD, I'm sure you've tried just about everything to fall asleep but there is a type of yoga breathing that always puts me out without fail when I can't sleep. You just make your exhale longer than your inhale, so if you inhale for 3 counts, exhale for 4 counts. Works every time. Apparently it activates your vagus nerve, but don't think about vet school just concentrate on breathing. 🙂

The Tenants Act says they have to give 2 months notice so if you needed another month to look you're legally entitled to it.

i try to count to 1000. it doesn't always work, but the focus of counting usually ends up knocking me out. on the occasion i actually get to 1000, i count backwards or try to skip by some odd number like 7s

Did you get a chance to look into melatonin or valerian root yet? You should give it a try!
 
I really wish I liked coffee......or tea.......consuming enough caffeine is proving difficult when soda is the only palatable source for me.

Edit: I just said soda.....😱
 
This cold has officially worn out its welcome. My sinuses are screwing with my ears and making me super dizzy. Result? I had to be helped on to the floor and out of my gown and gloves this morning during surgery lab so I didn't faint. 😳 Luckily, it was this week when we were just doing a cadaver lab and not next week when I'm on as surgeon for a live surgery.

Went to the walk-in clinic as soon as I felt half-way okay. Doctor says it is just a cold, but she could totally see how having a head full of rhinovirus and full surgical gear wouldn't be a good mix.

Escalla: POP! POP OR WE REVOKE YOUR CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP! Quick! What's the only coffee shop in the world?!

Sounds like she's very inconsiderate and self centered. First, the **** she pulled when BD was moving in and now this. Sorry she's putting you through this.
 
My favorite Canadian story:

The first two Canadian Thanksgivings, I went to a classmate's family's for dinner. Her mom asked what I wanted to drink and I said, "Do you have any soda?" And she had this really confused look on her face..."you mean...soda water? 😕" And then I remembered that they call it pop up here.

It's soda. Duh.

Really? I mean, yeah, we call it pop, but most of us know that "soda" is another name for it. If someone asked for "soda" I'd never assume they wanted soda water. 😕

I don't like it either 🙁 I use soda from being born in NJ, but I've had to endure "pop" since I moved to PA in 2nd grade. Such a silly word. The first time someone offered me a pop after I moved, I thought they were trying to give me drugs.

Edit: Oh yeah, my rant. Already counting down the days til my lease is up (which isn't til next summer). Roommate issues suck.

As far as I know, only the west side of PA says pop. I've never used it, but only know it from having relatives in MI.

True. Although the UK still has those beat for words used to mean certain things. Like plaster = band aid. Cotton bud = Q tip. Vodka+lemonade = vodka and sprite. And I always had to watch who I said "I have to go change my pants" (like going from sweats to jeans) to since pants=underwear. My bf at the time got a kick out of that one.

I worked in a movie theater concession stand in high school and had a guy order a "regular soda" from me. I asked him three times what kind of soda he wanted, and the response was always "just a regular soda." I ended up giving him a coke. I assume that's what he wanted. 😕

also a biscuit is a cookie, a scone is a scone & a biscuit, a eraser is a "rubber" (can't tell you how many times I laugh at that one - anyone got a rubber?), do not ask for a ride... you are asking for sex... ask for a lift... and craic is a good time, not a drug

Forgot about an eraser being a rubber. That one always made me laugh too. I also got thrown off the first time someone ask "You alright?". Didn't realize that was "how are you?"

This made me laugh because where I'm from a sub (as in the long sandwich) is called a grinder. Sometimes I slip when I'm away from home and say something like "Man, I could really go for a good meatball grinder right now" and people always think I'm referring to some weird sexual act. :laugh:
 
This cough is driving me insane..... this is now over 4 weeks with the cough. Yesterday I thought I was better, but it is back now. (I honestly didn't do anything yesterday so that could be why it seemed better). I am constantly cough all the damn time. Went to the dr. last week and was given codeine cough syrup and an inhaler because the dr. heard wheezing when I was exhaling. The cough syrup doesn't do anything, I do feel the inhaler opens things up a bit, but I am still coughing constantly. I am supposed to go back to the dr. if it hadn't cleared up within a week from seeing him, it will be a week tomorrow. I have mandatory lab practicals from 9AM to 5PM. So it is either visit the walk in clinic at the ER after school tomorrow or call to set up an appointment with the dr. I saw last week for next week. I just want to stop coughing. 🙁

I know how you feel. That's how I was for a good bit of my time when I was in the UK (I think due to the pollution) and I spent all of midterms like that last year. Hope you feel better soon!

Totally! I'm going to stand my ground in the hopes of avoiding moving mid semester. If they give me two months like they're supposed to that would get me to the end of finals. I've got a few places lined up to look at just in case. It's probably not the greatest idea to stick around since these people seem to have a history of screwing tenants over but I reallyyyy don't want to move right now. And I'm stubborn.

New rant: my application for a citizenship certificate (which I mailed in JUNE) just got returned incomplete because my photographs don't match Canada's ridiculous specifications. You'd think a standard passport photo would be okay but no. They have a minimum frame size, and your head has to fill between 31-36 mm of space from chin to crown. I spent 2 hours with the photo person getting the measurements correct. And I just whipped out a ruler to double check. Not sure what else they could possibly want! 😡 :boom:

Yeah it's a western PA thing. In Pittsburgh we say pop. In Philly they say soda. I say live and let live, I don't care if you say soda and you shouldn't care if I say pop!

Oh, I definitely have no issue with it. My parents said it for a while since they're from MI. I get called out for saying "leg" and "egg" weird, so I really can't judge. Not sure where I picked it up from though.
 
The one night of the week that I'm allowing myself a break from studying, and netflix is down. And I've come to the depressing realization that other than Netflix, I actually have nothing better to do. Guess I'm going to go study now. :lame:
