RANT HERE thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My main issue with mice is that they poop in my house. Cats do the same thing. Litter boxes are gross 😛

This is not at all related to your rant, but your avatar is bringing me waaay back to your pegasus knight one years ago.

I still have the pegasus knight on another forum! I've been playing a ton of Fire Emblem lately (plane rides) and maining Roy in Smash so it seemed appropriate. 😉

I made the mistake of putting a GBA emulator on my phone a couple months back and definitely burned through many many hours playing... and a subsequent solid hour or so arguing with a friend on the relative merits of Fire Emblem vs. Advance Wars, just for good measure. Really good game. I'm sure your residency interviews are going fabulously and you're going to be a beast of a neurologist. 🙂

Holiday spirit today got a bit ruined. It was a screw up by multiple people (myself included) but my mom's dog and my guy got into a fight during present opening. My mom let her dog open his gift (box with toys and treats) while I held my guy so he wouldn't go over. A few minutes later both dogs are just lose and my mom's dog starts sniffing the empty box (toys and food have been removed) and I didn't react fast enough to prevent my guy from going over. Mom's dog snaps at him after a second, he tries to get away but ends up getting sort of trapped corned and a fight ensues. Neither dog is hurt but my mom got a fair bite on her hand because she grabbed her dog's collar. Just sucks. I mentioned about removing the box and it didn't happen, but then I also feel at fault for not preventing my guy from going over there in the first place.

Toilet flooded the house while I was asleep. Had to shut off the water to the house, literally used every towel in the house to mop up the water and I'm running laundry because I ran out of towels. SO is out of town so it's just me and the broken toilet...which broke for no reason whatsoever. Grrr.

$400 emergency vet bill for my horse today. Right after all the Christmas shopping expenses. Sigh.

Must be the day for that. We had a toilet leak at work...went downstairs to use the restroom and about fell on my behind.

Having family issues during the Holidays stinks 🙁

Horse ate grain pellets too quickly before I was done soaking them, it got lodged in his throat. He panicked, drank water and ate more grain (because horse logic), water caused the grain to expand and block his esophagus completely while he coughed up saliva/mucus globs the size of a softball. So he got a nice slug of drugs and a tube to flush it all out. It was a mess.

Yikes, sounds like it. Sorry you had to go through that, glad he's okay.

Got called in for a second surgery today. Normally wouldn't care but I'm starting to feel like I'm coming down with something, and of course it's a down dog and hasn't had imaging done yet. By the time that's completed, it will likely be close to when my shift ends, yet I'll have to stay for the procedure most likely.

I hate this.... do they not think.. hmm, we should call the surgery student after imaging is done and we know that the dog: 1. definitely needs surgery and 2. the owner's want to go to surgery.

So annoying to sit around waiting on imaging and then either have surgery fall through or to just sit there for a couple hours twiddling your thumbs.

I think they definitely want surgery because the dog has progressed in the past 12 hours and they originally presented to the rDVM and then were referred here. But I wish the imaging was already done. But mehh, I don't want to be here until like 10 PM.

Yeah. We just get a lot of our ER service calling people in way too early without even discussing things with the client. Then we spend hours there when an honest discussion beforehand could have saved everyone time.

Went and bought snowshoes today with the gift card I got for Christmas (not a rant), got them home, started working on fitting the bindings and the plastic piece at the end of a pull tie (to adjust foot angle) just falls off rendering the adjustment function impossible. Now I have to find time to go back to the store to exchange them (instead of spending that same "free time" actually using them).
Hopefully mine are just a defective pair, since for the money these things cost you, I'd expect them to at least get some use outside before they fall apart.

What kind? I've got the Atlas Electra and love them

It's flooding like crazy here... I'm pretty sure that the entire southern half of my state is underwater now. Sucks not being able to really go anywhere. 🙁

Into STL? Or MCI? Either way, you're probably going to have some issues, unfortunately. Looks like most flights are on time right now, at least, but with the second round of the storm coming in, that could change at the drop of a hat. KC is dealing with ice/snow/sleet while STL is dealing with some flooding (though it isn't as bad as it is here in Joplin from what I've been hearing). Not sure how COMO itself is doing. 🙁

I really hope that you're able to fly in and get back safe and sound! :xf:
STL, and there is currently no delay, but I have a stop over in Detroit, and I would absolutely love it if I didn't get stuck in Detroit for the night lol.... Apparently COMO isn't terrible, but my roommate has informed me that STL is supposedly pretty bad right now...

Yeah, looks like STL is pretty bad in terms of road closures and the like. Thankfully, I-70 appears to be fairly clear for the rest of the trip to COMO, so once you get out of St. Louis and St. Charles counties, I'd think it wouldn't be too terrible. I know I-70 was closed in both directions around STL earlier, but last I heard, the westbound lanes had reopened. So you should be okay on that front!

Hopefully your flight stays on schedule and you don't have to have a lengthy layover! That would really suck.

I don't know what the plumbers did, but I now don't have hot water in my bathroom at all. Took a fabulous sponge bath in my kitchen this morning. I'm hoping that the maintenance workers are back on. Otherwise, there will be no one else on campus until January 4th. I could deal with sponge baths for the next week. I just don't want to.

That sucks. If they don't fix it in a timely manner kindly mention to them that lack of hot water likely violates a city health code.

A cat with a potassium of 1.9. WTF, cat. That's not really compatible with life.

I considered those, but the guy at REI said he found those bindings frustrating because they're cloth and they freeze. I went for MSR Lightning Explore - spendier than I would have bought for myself, but the 'rents gave me a generous gift card, so I went for the ones with the Axis gait adjustment over the Revo Explore.

The last cat I had with that ended up just being a very bizarre case.

Hopefully you can find the cause of the hypokalemia.
We think it was renal failure. The cat ended up being euthanized due to poor prognosis 🙁

The problem is that there are only four actual staff members (4 of 5 RDs) on campus until the 4th. Even if I call the maintenance building/submit a maintenance request, there will be no one there to hear the call/see the submission. I could also see them argue that I do have hot water in the apartment, just not in my bathroom (sink or shower). I'm going to shoot my boss an e-mail in the morning to see if they'll spend the overtime/holiday time to send someone to check out my hot water heater, but I'm not hopeful. Like I said, I'm willing to deal with this for a week. But I've been debating whether or not I want to stay in this job after my contract is up at the end of June and this is a strike against that.

Ugh being on call for anaesthesia was the worst. I remember one down dog I got called in far--fortunately in the morning on a Sunday--and I was stuck through the whole bitter process. Started out taking an hour to get a catheter in, blew every leg. Then the long ordeal of CT followed by surgery, and the whole recovery afterward. WHOLE day. My very last day on call for smallies. Started equine rotation that Monday x_x.

I'm dealing with something similar, it is really not fun and it causes so much stress.

Multiple dogs with pericardial effusion not all euthanized. 1 mom wants to wait. Parvo pup went to heaven after first playing with me, giving me hope and than taking a health nose dive. Many other euthanasias, one dog drove from Texas to show up with IMHA....

I worked through lunch and stayed late on a 10 hour shift and my kiddo at home has a fever. I've got a sore throat and a baby who wakes up to little noises and likes to use mom as a pacifier. It's gonna be a long night.

Thank heaven for orange juice! Sugar, nice on my throat and it tastes soooo good!

Fever and gotta take the 5 year old to the hospital again and... bear with me because I know it sounds like my priorities are wrong at first glance...

So B woke up with blue limbs. She had a fever yesterday and I think this am but the forehead thermometer is busted and she's uncooperative for the traditional style. She had what looked like 5th disease about 1.5-2 weeks ago. So this could be 5th running the course to decreased O2 perfusion (as it is prone to do), it could be that she is just sick so perfusion is not great, or she could finally be having heart problems. When we go in, this is going to be a major head ache even if I wasn't sick and dragging baby sister around too.

So where you are going to question me: I ordered her a new tablet and missed the delivery yesterday at 1 pm. It would be very handy to have with us at the hospital to distract her from scary medical tests. Calling they say it will be delivered by 8pm. I'm trying to wait until 1 at least, but I keep going back and forth between cursing myself as an idiot and thinking "if I wait just a few more minutes, the truck might show, and she's dancing right now..."

Urgh, I'm too sick for decisions like this...

Update: she was pink by the time she saw the Dr. She hadn't been having trouble breathing, so we just get to keep an eye on her. And as the Dr said: kids, particularly those with Down Syndrome can survive hypoxic conditions and cardiac events for very long periods of time.

It's exactly what I expected and why I took pics of her hands and legs earlier. This child is trying to drive me crazy this year! (At the same time, she's turning into quite the awesome little girl and a great big sister, so I can't complain about a couple of weird breathing things too much, right?)
