Pretty good! 4th year sucks butt so far but I think that's just the nature of it lolHow have you been?
Trying to write my senior paper right now since the rough draft is due Thursday. (I signed up for the first slot thinking it would get me to get it done earlier. HAHAHAHAHAHA you'd think I'd know myself better after 31 years) It's slow going even though there's a lot to say about compassion fatigue.
How about you, you doctor you!!!
Haha Hey TT!I had to come in here and see it to believe it.

Yeah, 4th year is a mix of sucking butt and awesome.
I'm good, back home finally, all board exams taken, job secured. Just enjoying some time off before I begin working. I'm planning on heading to Vegas soon.
Ooooooh, traitor! (Reno native here lol)Yeah, 4th year is a mix of sucking butt and awesome.

Yeah, I remember that you don't like Vegas.
You'll be glad to have that paper done early once everyone is really deep into studying for NAVLE and you don't have to worry about it anymore
Oh I'm just joking! Vegas is fine. And yeah. Just trying to freaking focus on this stupid thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BlarghYeah, I remember that you don't like Vegas.

Thanks! You're almost there! Only a year left! 🙂
Yeah. I just kicked it off with the worst rotation here is allThanks! You're almost there! Only a year left! 🙂

Yeah. I just kicked it off with the worst rotation here is all![]()
What rotation?
I did that, you'll appreciate it so much later. 😀Yeah. I just kicked it off with the worst rotation here is all![]()

Ortho
I'm learning a ton just, the lead clinician tends to scream at people and the student minimum is supposed to be 5 and there's only 3 since no one wants to take it. (The 3 of us were PCA'd into it) It's ok. Just intense

Gross.
🙁 I feel like I started on one of the best rotations (besides all the horse ones of course 😉) and am ending with the worst...not by choice. Those were randomly chosen for me.I did that, you'll appreciate it so much later. 😀
Abney lives!!!!!!!! I miss 2017 even moar now!!
I was actually going through drunk SDN thread and thankful I might have deleted a couple posts. haha
On an unrelated note, I broke my rule and started dating a classmate and it's dumb.
Dumb in a good or bad way?On an unrelated note, I broke my rule and started dating a classmate and it's dumb.
With that said, starting with all the hard ones and ending with many of our dumb BS ones about made me want to shoot myself from boredom/frustration the last month or two of clinics... so I don't think it's the worst thing in the world to do it in somewhat reverse order.🙁 I feel like I started on one of the best rotations (besides all the horse ones of course 😉) and am ending with the worst...not by choice. I tend to enjoy jumping headfirst into things so it worked out well for me. Lots of classmates eased in slower and it worked for them, too. We're all vet students and get **** done no matter what, I think. 😀

Both? lolDumb in a good or bad way?
We wants to be board cert in sx so you know, all that crap. And he's super busy too and can't wait on me which sucks 😛
I just parked myself in small animal internal medicine for most of 4th year. There were some other rotations too, but none nearly as fun.
Haha! Well, I suppose that is fun to add the extra element of thinking of another person into the mix. I have isolated myself to the max, so I can get a little, um, self indulgent often. But it works for me I think. lolBoth? lol

I just keep adding extra years of difficulty that are supposedly going to offer me even more freedom at some point.
We have all sorts of crappy rotations we have to take. And if some of the crappy rotations don't have enough students to make them run they PCA us into them. Mine was ortho.... 😕
Next I have LA ICU overnights, which we can split shifts and I hear is super chill so

Also it's HE, he wants to be board certified. Not me. I am so done with this crap. I just want money!!! lol
Colic sucks. Majorly🙁
c/o 2021?! Holy crapoly
IKR?!! I'm not ready!
Oh, wait. Yeah, I am. At least, that's what all the "make a plan" talk was for. Can I add how super weird it is to be prepping for the next round of applications while on the waitlist?
Both? lol

Feel free to PM me if you want to talk about the dumbness of it. The boy also wants to be board certified in sx. I'm doing an internship, but that's about as far as it goes right now for post-school education.
About had it with my shoulder saga. I finally had an appointment with my orthopedic doc today. He diagnosed me with something he's never said before, even though he's had these x-rays for about a year. Apparently I've got a non-union of my left acromion, and a pretty big one at that. I just don't like how at the last appointment, he "didn't know" what was wrong, hence the scope surgery. Now he's telling me I have this issue. I'm going in for the scoping next Thursday. He then tells me that he can do an acromioplasty then depending on what he sees, but it could make everything worse, including destroy my bone. He can't place a pin or fixeter through the bone because there isn't enough research/attempts on it to make him feel it's worth trying.
Oh, and my recovery is only two weeks supposedly, not the original 6-8 he told me. So I could have had a lot more planned for my summer, including going back to work somewhere. He also said it's likely my right shoulder has the same problem, but is asymptomatic. Apparently a non-union of the acromion is really common, just very few end up with pain from it.

Just got a super nasty voicemail from our bitch of a landlord. Apparently our dogs barked at our neighbors for 2 consecutive hours today. Funny, because they were inside all day, except when they were outside to potty with my husband out watering the garden. Animal control can come and issue us a citation too, as anything greater than 20 minutes is considered "nuisance" barking. This accurately describes what it's like to live in this ****hole of a city. Ugh.
My mom just called me to tell me she wants to put my cat down Wednesday. 🙁 She's had behavioral issues with peeing outside of the litter boxes which we've managed by keeping doors shut and kenneling her at night, but she's started peeing on the floor and shoes and other things on the main floor right in the middle of the day now. It's such a sucky situation since we can't find anything medically wrong and we've tried so many things to curb the behavior. 😢
After a night from hell trying to save a one of our horses, we ended up having to put him down. To be honest, I think I'm still in shock about the entirety of the last 24 hrs. Feels like a bad dream.
That's rough. So sorry. 🙁
I've been there! It's difficult because you're not ready to look ahead at the next application cycle while still holding your breath about the last one. But you can do it!IKR?!! I'm not ready!

I know the feeling, I lost my heart horse to colic three years ago. Coming home with an empty trailer is a sobering memory that I don't think I'll ever forget.
Virtual hugs. It is never easy, and sometimes all we have is the thought that we did the best we could.

I'm so sorry. We were almost to that point with one of my cats two years ago, and it's awful. Do you have any cat behaviorist a in your area? My veterinarian referred us to one, and it made a huge difference. He has an occasional mishap now, but I understand his triggers and can more effectively manage the environment for him. Since you said you can't find anything medically wrong, maybe your veterinarian knows a behaviorist near you.

we recently had to rehome our cat, George. The only thing we can think of is that he hated us...he is doing awesome with his new person, and is using the litter box like he is supposed to! there was nothing medically wrong; we think he was missing our houseguest. (she had moved in with us in September to help while my husband was recovering from bilateral knee replacement, she moved out in January). George started acting up when she moved out; so he went to go live with her the first of this month.
One of my cats had this problem with his original owner (although it may not have been as severe as your issue). She brought him in to be euthanized, my boss made a different call and offered to give him a second chance in her clinic. He hasn't gone outside of the litterbox since, and he's been rehomed since (with me). I'm not saying it's a definite 'cure' for every cat, but maybe rehoming is something you could look into, although trying to rehome a cat with litterbox problems is far from easyMy mom just called me to tell me she wants to put my cat down Wednesday. 🙁 She's had behavioral issues with peeing outside of the litter boxes which we've managed by keeping doors shut and kenneling her at night, but she's started peeing on the floor and shoes and other things on the main floor right in the middle of the day now. I just had to explain 8 long pages of a complete autopsy of my grandfather to my grandma. Not really a rant, but it's hard to describe a rupture of an internal iliac artery aneurysm

Damn it! Attached my transcript that didnt have two lines saying my degree was awarded to a internship application, that's now closed, and because it doesn't show I graduated I got rejected. Even after pleading my case to the point of contact there's nothing I can do I redeem myself. ****.

Got one last move to make. Gonna call the congressman who's continually emailling me about what he can do to help make the government work for me. But I'm less than hopeful at this point.Damn 🙁

We've talked about rehoming, but neither my vet nor anyone I can find is willing to take a cat with her issues. She is a former feral that lived by our house when we moved in (she lived outside the first several years she was around - it was almost a year before I could touch her) and she's just not a cat that enjoys most people. She likes my family and will sometimes cuddle and loves to be brushed by us, but has never warmed up to any other strangers. I don't think she would do well with a rehome because she does get stressed with new people. She's also at least 17 (have had her almost that long and she was an adult when we first saw her), and she's a tiny cat, and it wouldn't be fair to return her to an outside kitty either - she's been an indoor cat for over a decade now and we have coyotes.
Not a board certified behaviorist, but I work with a tech who is working on her certification in behavior, and our vets have talked with others about possibilities. She's been on meds for behavior before - can't remember the names off the top of my head, was a few years back. We've rearranged furniture to try and break habits, keep all doors shut from rooms she has habits of peeing in, keep the litter box clean, and try and keep her life pretty stress free, but it just isn't working anymore. 🙁
A friend who does dog rescue took in a litter of boxer mix pups, and one just tested positive for parvo. The friend in question is stressed, as she has a small-scale rescue and a bad outbreak could sink them financially. Trying to be helpful, I asked if her local clinic had an isolation unit big enough for all the pups (with the intention of helping her find another clinic if not) and she took it as me questioning her ability to handle the situation. She asked if I thought she was treating it herself and if I thought she didn't have a vet for the rescue. This was not what I meant at all, but she took it that way and while I know her snarky response was 100% due to stress, it's still upsetting. I was trying to get information so I could help.

Would your mom be willing to try meds again, and adding Feliway diffusers and more boxes around the house?
Sorry you're having to deal with this, I hope you can find a solution 🙁

We've had Feliway for years (hasn't ever done anything for her), boxes around the house in several places, and last time we did meds for inappropriate urination/not getting along with another cat, it took almost a year to see any real improvement, and she spent much of that year in my brother's bedroom because we couldn't trust her out throughout the house and it took that long to change her habits. My mom isn't wanting to do meds again because of how long it took last time - she wants the furniture/carpet/shoes/backpacks to stop smelling like cat urine *now*, which I can understand, since cat urine isn't fun. It just sucks.
Two unrelated rants:
- My city is in day 5 of a water boil advisory because the infrastructure here is terrible. The city manager (who my family personally knows and who is also an abhorrently awful person) resigned over it, then told the city on the news that expecting to not have to boil our water occasionally so it's safe to consume is an "unrealistically high expectation".
- I graduated with a 3.977 GPA... which is apparently not high enough to earn summa cum laude at my university.

Fuuuuuu......
I came back here to procrastinate writing this paper. I should know better

Trivial rant, but when I go to order an 8 piece jalapeno bites and I'm given four jalapeno bites, one of which is just deep fried cream cheese with no jalapeno, I'm going to be upset. When it's from the drive thru at night and I can't accurately check the whole bag of multiple people's food to ensure accuracy, I'm even more upset.
I paid $4.50 for three jalapeno bites and a deep fried piece of ****ing cream cheese. Rawr. Rawr. Rawr.
(I sent a note to corporate because this wasn't the first time this location screwed up my orders and gave me less food than what I paid for.)
