Today my 50lb pit mix got attacked by an 8lb mini dachshund who bolted out of her front door, crossed the street, and came up ~15 feet into my property to get to him. 200000% unprovoked, my dog wasn't even so much as barking outside. He's okay, but this dog was going after him so viciously that we couldn't pull it off until my dog gave a warning bite (luckily he didn't even draw blood, so she's okay too). However, with him being a pit mix, I can't help but sweat it a little despite it clearly being the other owner's/dog's fault. I have a friend whose dog was euthanized by animal control after a nearly identical situation, except the little attacker was killed in that story.

I hope so too. The owner was very apologetic and even said 'It's my fault' several times but people change their minds really quickly if they decide they want money, don't want a pit around, or if she is actually hurt right now. I tried to get a look at her myself after explaining that I'm actually a vet student, but this dog is so damn aggressive I couldn't even get near her. I'm a pretty paranoid pit mom, I went through a lot with my previous pittie in terms of being judged, physically blocked from entering a public dog park, etc. People hate this breed and any individual that falls under the 'bully' category, so I do get nervous.

I mean really, can you imagine if a pitbull bolted out a front door and went for a dog across the street? Euthanasia the same day, especially if your local AC people don't like pits.
 
Man, for CYA we almost need 24/7 security cams recording everything along the perimeter so that there is proof the dachshund attacked unprovoked. And a bodycam with audio to record the owner saying "It's my fault."

I thought about that. I'm hoping that if it ever comes to court, one of the nearby houses has a camera up and got a view of it. We don't have any unfortunately.

I'm honestly in shock about it all. My dog was peeing outside and her dog literally broke out of her house to come attack him. How can you not see how severe of a behavioral and aggression issue that is? That's not normal! I don't care how little your dog is, aggression is not okay! I don't even know what to say. This dog has always talked mad **** from across the street, I never thought she'd actually come at him with absolutely no fear like she did.

I feel really bad for laughing out loud at this. :laugh: "Hay bitch! YEAH YOU! I'mma kick yo ass some day! Punk ass roid rage wanna be OG bitch!"

I hope this doesn't escalate and happen again and that nothing bad happened!

Besides writing about it in this thread, can you document everything you remember happening and save it somewhere safe (computer + print it out) while it's all fresh in your mind, in case this recurs? I mean, you're the one with the pit mix, so the deck is stacked against you already. Include your recollection of what the other owner said. (I am not a lawyer, this is not legal advice.)

Good idea, I'll do that right now. I know this isn't the worst thing in the world that has ever happened, but I'm kind of devastated. I've always been so careful to keep my pits out of sketchy situations to keep them safe and I feel like I failed, even though I couldn't have prevented this. We were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Also, it is funny. The dog is maybe the size of my foot, but talks **** to every dog and person in the neighborhood. You can tell she's talking smack by the tone of her bark :laugh: She is a cute dog, but lord. She needs a behaviorist.

Honestly, I feel like anyone from the Mitten State is too far north to understand chili. Moose wrestling expertise? Sure. Pointing to your hand to give directions? I guess, dork. But chili? Fuggedaboutit.

My neighbor Skypes someone at 10pm like every. Single. Night. And not like soft conversation Skyping, it’s raucous catching up complete with laughing and excited yelling. Every. Night. And I don’t even get to eavesdrop because it’s in Chinese. Like, if j have to overhear every conversation you have, I want in on the juicy deets. (Although, I do know his bank information from him yelling with the bank on speakerphone last month).
This neighbor also makes weird comments to me when he sees me. Like, I think he thinks he’s being friendly, but this is LA... We don’t speak to our neighbors, please don’t tell me I look nice when I have lipstick on, or tell me that my cooking smells good when the only reason my window is open is to vent the kitchen, not to converse with people through the screen.
Typing this out I realize it sounds ****ty, but I actively avoid leaving my apartment when he is outside and close my blinds if he goes back and forth more than once. That is how often he tries to corner me into a conversation.
But back to the rant at hand.... 10pm is too. Damn. Late. To be yelling at your computer when walls are this thin.
Sometimes I just want to turn porn on full blast to get back at him.... but then my roommate and I would have an awkward next morning too.
