I’d also take this with a grain of salt, but certainly if there’s an insane amount of employees posting diss tracks I’d do a double take.

But generally, you’re still going to see a lot of bias towards negative reviews. Pay attention to if you see trends but otherwise feel it out for yourself.

Ya people only review if they feel strongly in one direction or the other.

Unless you're like me and a local guide trying to wrack up those points and views lol. I'm currently at 1.6 million all-time views. It's actually great because when I leave a review it usually puts me towards the top with a tag saying I'm a local guide level whatever which especially helps small businesses.

omeprazole (prilosec OTC) works wonders. not so great if you're using it chronically, but every now and then is fine.

i love it when family members send me vague descriptions/blurry pictures of whatever’s wrong with their pet and then proceed to degrade me and call me useless when i tell them idk and to go get it checked out 🤩 not sure how even a seasoned vet could diagnose over the phone like that let alone a 1st year vet student ……….

In addition to what battie said, a simple 'I can't really do much for you as 1) this is a virtual conversation 2) I'm several years away from being a doctor, and I'm in my first semester of school.'

Alternatively, if they aren't 'important' family/friends, just ignore them. I've got quite a few unread FB messages from distant friends/family asking me for vet advice/please come look at my pet at 3am/etc and I feel absolutely no guilt just ignoring those. And sometimes going as far as deleting the person off my social media entirely. I've since deleted FB messenger from my phone entirely because it was getting so bad, I was getting messages from people I don't even know because someone shared my name and told them to contact me. If they keep reaching out/suggest it is an emergency, absolutely make them feel stupid (in a roundabout way) for handling an emergency situation via text/FB message/insta DM instead of seeking emergency care.

If someone is going to treat you like **** for being unable to help, I strongly encourage you to throw that back at them when they come around again (because they will). 'Sorry, can't help, I'm useless remember!' and then leave it at that. Include screenshots if indicated. But then again I have no issue being petty and passive aggressive when people treat me badly. You're not a free resource to people and have no obligation to be one.

it's just exhausting. I've been treated like this since high school when I was in a vet science program. Expecting a high school student to give you answers is absurd. It's the constant "can you hurry up and graduate so we can stop paying for the vet" and then turn around and call me names when i don't know the answer. also would like to add that last night one of my high school friends franticly blew up my phone with texts/calls at 1am because she noticed her cat drank a little more water than usual. im tired

Yeah these particular people don't understand the education one goes through to get the degree, whether it is you or another vet, if they think a high schooler can give them answers.

Seriously, set the boundaries and if they aren't respected, just ignore. It isn't going to stop until you do.

While you’re setting boundaries, you might also want to include giving your phone number out to people or volunteering you to answer questions. Questions from family are annoying, but the situations that frustrate me the most are when my parents coworkers or like my brother in law’s extended family (aka not my actual relatives) would ask my parents for my number to ask me a question. If you don’t have my number already, we’re definitely not close enough for me to give you free advice. Luckily my parents are on board and will text me and ask if I’m willing to talk to them or just tell them that I can’t help them and they need to call their vet, but we did have to have a talk about it.

I had someone from high school reach out asking for vet advice while I was in my first year of vet school (she had also reached out during undergrad on a few occasions). She is finishing up law school, so I made the joke of “I can only help you out if you help me out with legal troubles” and she had the audacity to say “Unfortunately, I can’t legally help you if you aren’t a client”…. girl. So close to the point without grasping it.

Yeah the phone number thing can turn into a big problem. One of my neighbors got my cell number from our community directory and has called me Saturday nights when their pet is having problems. I don’t work Saturday nights.

Oof. I don't even have my job visible to non-friends on social media in case a neighbor looks me up. We don't have a directory luckily. At my last neighborhood, my husband let it slip that I was a vet and I was getting messages at all hours from neighbors I had never even met, 2-3 times someone showed up at our house with a pet saying there was an emergency. For the latter, I was always at work and my husband told them they could go see me if they were worried, interestingly it was never bad enough to warrant paying for an exam...

I had an ex-friend whom I had advised never to text/contact me again call me at 11:45pm one night this spring to ask me a question about his new girlfriend’s dog. He left a message that began with, “hey I know you’ve said we’re not friends anymore but you’re a vet,” and ended with, “I figured you love animals enough to help despite everything.”

I didn’t respond. I wasn’t even a vet student at that point, let alone a vet.
