My sister planned to have a distant relative who is a judge do her ceremony, but they got sick just two days before the wedding. Cue a mad scramble and my cousin got ordained by the Universal Life Church or something in order to be able to do the wedding.
Oh that’s absolutely stressful 🫪
I had a family friend perform mine but he wasn’t able to make it to the rehearsal the night before (and HE was stressed about telling me this bc he didn’t want me to panic) bc his hay baler was acting up and he had hay on the ground and rain was coming but I was not at all worried that there would be any sort of issue even if he couldn’t make it since there were no less than 4 other people who were gonna be there that were ordained 😂 definitely also always good to have backups bc it’s free to get ordained

Bought some boxes of cereal for weekend guests.

Not gonna lie ... shrinkflation left us really Cheerio-less at breakfast.

This brand new box of overpriced cereal contained more air than oats!

as I daydream about it, I’m enjoying the tiny elopement idea better— I can still get the dress I want (it’s not like a ballgown) and we can just go to the state park near our house with a justice of the peace. We’ll see how my mom feels about this but I’ve got no grandparents left to complain about it and half my cousins didn’t even come to my brother’s wedding a year ago (my brother is also like… weirdly against me getting married? I’m 24 now which he thinks is too young but also he’s kinda like gatekeeping marriage).
We had a tiny wedding at a local offbeat art center, bought my dress from a resale shop with all proceeds going to women's charities, and were catered by our local taco man. Focus on what matters to you. For me, it was making sure that the money spent helped the community. My sister went to the courthouse and then hosted a boardgame night with med school friends. Connecting after a tough school year mattered to her.
Whatever way you celebrate, it's the community that surrounds you that you'll remember

Pretty sure my ear drum ruptured "out of nowhere" last night. Headed to the dr later. 🙃
Update: no rupture but foreign body that they could only partially get out after tons of irrigation and curretting. Also possibly a mass butbit was so bloody after visualization was poor. Sending me to speciality. Will update tomorrow.😅

link saying vets arent real doctors actually shattered something in me.
YES. We watch GMM all the time and that shocked me. I mean I know he's supposed to play the idiot angle (or he really is just an idiot 95% of the time) but come on. The man has dogs. And you had to know you were saying something spicy when you **** on an entire profession like that.

I did appreciate Rhett's absolutely stellar defense of us though.

I didn’t know how loans work completely since I didn’t take them out for undergrad, but kind of frustrated with my school and idk if I have the right to be lol. So I didn’t realize the loans cap out at whatever the COA is, I thought it was the federal cap for everyone like the 50k/year. But my COA didn’t include the student health insurance I’m going to be paying 3.3k for per year, so I capped out at 44k. It should be enough with my savings, but I just wanted to be on the safe side and take out more then return what’s unused. My school pretty much says I can’t do anything at this point because that’s my federal loan cap. Wdym you can’t adjust COA, everyone just gets the same one? What about people who have off campus health insurance?

I'm pretty sure my school included student health insurance in the CoA even though it's optional if you have other coverage. That is really frustrating. If it's required to enroll it should be included imo

It’s annoying they left that out of the COA calculation. Seems like that should definitely be included in it, whether a student plans to use it or not. I’m glad it’s something you can cover, at least this year.

It’s really like anything…if your rent is more than they “budget” or your car payment is more than they allot, you have to make the money yourself somehow or find a private loan. Most of the schools are pretty generous with their cost of living estimates and yes it is the same estimate for everyone (though I’ve heard Iowa may have been pretty stingy in the past and kept really tight COL estimates). Used to, you could sometimes petition the school’s financial aid office, show proof you needed more (higher rent, daycare costs, etc), and why, and they might approve you for some more. I want to say maybe @DVMDream did that back in the day? But that was pre-BBB and I don’t know how that would change things. But maybe DVMD or someone else who knows about that can chime in?

Just checked the website and the insurance isn’t included (bc it’s often waived) but you can appeal to have it added + there’s a line for “misc. personal expenses”. I think they told us that the listed COA at our school is a high-end estimate to account for extra stuff coming up. I’m also not sure how COA contributes to loans now with the new limits, but ig I failed to consider the possibility that an estimated COA could be under the limit 🫪

I quit today.

Ty @vampyrica for talking me off the ledge.
Good on you for making that decision, I know it must have been really difficult and even scary. I hope things work out and you find a better situation quickly :cares:

It doesn't mean anything now other than for you to know what level of private loans you need. You get 50k for the year, that's that, regardless of estimated COA.
Wouldn’t that mean I get 50k though? I will probably call my school questioning the COA and everything- so far I’ve been emailing and they just say I’m at the federal loan cap at 44k and that things can’t change because federal law requires that I do not receive more than I’ve been offered. Estimated personal expenses come out to be $816/sem and transportation ~1300/sem but there’s nothing about miscellaneous like insurance. I asked about an appeal but they keep re-emphasizing that I can’t change it…

No, the government is not going to loan you more than what your school tells them your program costs. You just happen to be at one of the very few programs where the COA is under the federal limit, so in your specific instance, your cap is lower than the limit. Most vet students won't be in this situation because their COA is well over the 50k/yr federal max. Hopefully you can convince the school to include insurance and more of a COL buffer in future years' COA, if nothing else.

Edit: Source for the loan limits being the COA is in the original Higher Education Act of 1965, section 451 subsection c, which says "MAXIMUM AID.—The maximum dollar amount of financial assistance provided under this part to a student shall not exceed the cost of attendance for such student." This is the original act which has been modified over time and by the new language in the OBBB.

Are you talking to the vet school specifically or your school's financial aid office? often the actual vet staff don't know as much about the loan process as they need to and I'd make sure you're talking to the financial aid office.

I see thank you for the clarification 🙂 I have been talking to the financial aid office also

Much love @katiemcat 🧡 Let me know if there's anything you need
Thank you guys.

It’s been a really difficult time but luckily I have a lot of connections in the field so I’m gonna be just fine.

Iirc there are some hearing impaired ppl in here. Suggestions for Bluetooth stethoscope things? If/when I get the tympanoplasty I cant wear my stethoscope for a few weeks since my ear will be packed with stuff.

and the fact they clipped it and posted it EEVERYYYWHEREEE. they knew what they were doing with the engagement bait....

i posted a stitch to it on youtube shorts and all the comments agreed with link saying that doctors only work on humans, and that vets are animal doctors. if they go to the vet they don't refer to the dvm as a dr, but address them as "vet" instead :dead::dead::dead: so naive to be like "i wouldnt want a vet working on me or my family!!!"

my face when vets learn human medicine in vet school but human drs dont learn animal medicine in school. my face when a dvm could literally help save a person.

The saga with my incompetent apartment complex continues.

They’ve already screwed up pest control once because the manager is incompetent. My spidey senses went off today and I thought you know I should check with pest control to make sure they’re actually coming out tomorrow. As it turns out, dumb manager didn’t do her job again. Shocked pikachu face. So I went back and I’m like dumb bitch you need to CALL THEM THEY CLOSE AT 5. Wouldn’t you know it, she missed them

I’m actually livid. I told her that if pest control doesn’t come tomorrow they aren’t coming at all and it is no longer my problem as I am moving out in less than 2 weeks. And this dumb bitch is still saying i have to pay for all 3 treatments

Is there any legal recourse I can take to avoid having to pay $450? Like I have done MORE than everything on my end, but the apartment complex can’t hold up there end of the bargain. I shouldn’t have to pay for a service that I am not even present for.

What I feel like what will happen is that my parents just pay the fee but on principle it’s just WRONG like I’m being punished over trying to be good and report a problem and nip it in the bud before it becomes an actual problem and instead I’m just continually being ****ed in the ass. Just 11 days and I am OUT of this **** hole

That sucks so hard. My apartment complex we payed $10 a month for the pest control services. Granted, pest control never worked and we still had a massive roach infestation the entire year. I really hope they don't make you pay. That said, I feel you, as Uhaull billed me $800 for damage we didnt do today. Everyone's a scammer!

Babymcat got very ill after his latest vaccines and so this morning sucked x 2 but Tylenol is magic and made him feel so much better #stfuRFK
I'm sorry for baby!
Industry standard for cross country moves is delivery within 7-21 calendar days… apparently the expletive expletive expletive moving company we hired does business days instead. Meaning they could take up to 3 more weeks (5 weeks total) to deliver our stuff.
And be careful... I do have a friend that didnt get hers for 6 weeks and a lot of it was damaged. :/ Stay on top of that company!

hi hi I am here.

I have 2 stethoscopes I use (I have more than than but this is all that matters). So for reference I’m in CC and also completely deaf in my right ear

Littman and EKO have some great stethoscopes. I have both of theirs, the CORE and the CORE 500 - I got the CORE in 2021 when I finished vet school and the CORE500 in October when I finished residency.

Both stethoscopes are noise amplifying up to 40x, decrease background sounds, will let you link up to your Bluetooth headphones to play the sounds. They even will link to my Bluetooth hearing aids and play that way (I don’t use them like that because I need it to be a little less environment noise and more heart noise).

I’ll test them when I get off the couch and see if they sound good with my over the ear headphones but it’s definitely possible. I used to actually disconnect the adapter, put it in a glove, and then use AirPods when I want to listen to my iso puppies so I wasn’t contaminating my stethoscope.

The inconvenient aspect is that you will have to pair the stethoscope to your phone and then your phone to your headphones, so it’s a few more steps but it should work.

As for the stethoscopes themselves, I really like both of mine. After 5 years of abuse, my OG core is falling apart but I also never put it in the case to leave/ would just throw it in my bag, but it still works really well. The Core 500 is really cool because instead of the sound getting transmitted up the tube like a normal stethoscope, the ear piece itself actually just has a speaker in it that picks up the sound from the bell.

I don’t use the ECG feature of it. I will say it gets a little busy in teeny tiny animals because I feel the bell is quite large for them but I don’t have any trouble using it. They both block out sounds well, the CORE500 is much better at it and very easily toggles between heart/lung/wide sounds, whereas the core needs the app to do that.

Precisely why I put airtags in multiple boxes when I moved with a vanline. I moved west coast to east coast and they picked up my stuff May 2 and delivered May 28. At least I could have a vague idea of when they would arrive based on the airtag location; they only gave me 1 night's heads up before they arrived.

Things are much worse than I even initially knew about
I hope there’s a solution, whether it be management shift or you find a better programme. And when I was a new mom, idk how you feel, but I’m like f this s*** if I’m somewhere that isn’t aligned with my vibe, I know better than to try to change what can’t be changed now — I used to try to push my ideas but that isn’t always helpful. My priorities are on my family first and foremost, so where I spend time outside the home I want it to be fun, challenging, engaging, inspiring, and supporting curiosity and fair work. 🤍 Keep us updated. Good luck! 🙏🏼 you got this.

So luckily my boss has a core that I revived so thankfully dont have to buy one for a monthish worth of use. I have it paired and downloaded to the Eko app. I have it also figured out for pairing with headphones so it is officially functional!
Idk if its a glitch or if youd know. I pressed record just because itd be fun to share murmurs with owners but im finding its not recording correctly. It has my first recording I did but every subsequent recording isn't actually recording and playing. 😅

They weren’t willing to provide what I agreed to, so I made the decision to leave.

I feel that same way. At the end of the day, my family is my number one priority and I’m not going to put myself in a position where they aren’t, especially when I didn’t agree to it.

Thank you for the support.

Not so much a rant but we had two dogs with heatstroke arrive in critical condition 20 minutes apart. Our feels like temperature is 115 today and we aren't even the hottest in the country right now. I can't imagine what the ERs are looking like.

Please be safe during the holiday weekend y'all
