not here to throw a pity party because i should be happy i passed but man am i tired of just making it by. my gpa from undergrad was the production of health issues but those habits stuck with me and i am terrified they will follow me through vet school. i dont want to just pass and move on, but im not trying to be valedictorian top of the top either. i just want to do better than i did in undergrad, because i know i can. this is a score i've seen before, and one i'm all too familiar with, and i want to see better because i know i can do better. it's not that i don't understand the material, it's that for some reason, it does not fully stick.

i know now how i have to study, because everything that did fully stick with me for the exam, were things i could vomit up and draw on a whiteboard and explain. happy i passed, because me from 2022 would be so shocked to know we passed our first exam and decently so, but i know i can do better. hopefully that's enough to light a fire under my ass and keep me going, but for now i'm just a little bummed
You got this. If you want ideas DM me. I was not a good student either and have found some strategies to help that may be of use to you!

Literally me on my first anatomy exam:
meme.jpg

And anatomy is one of my favorite subjects lol

Nothing really prepares you for not only the quantity of information you have to retain in vet school, but also the depth/detail you need to have to get a "good" grade.

The great thing about vet school is good enough really is good enough. Unless you're dead set on a competitive specialty, it's okay to do okay, and know that even just getting the minimum passing grade requires you to be a great student compared to undergrad.

Deadass I had a freak out after my mock lab exam. Immediately pivoted study methods to Anki (which I’ve never in my life used before) and then hauling my ass to the lab for group study with a smart lab partner.

This is the first time I’ve had true test anxiety where I could feel myself freaking out and had to self regulate mid exam. Anatomy is a BEAST.

I did talk to my profs after the exams were given back and although I did perform way better than I expected, they suggested 1) when learning the material, think big picture first then narrow on the tiny details. 2) group learning in the lab, ask each other random questions (what muscles would attach to this prominence, if this ligament was transected what would happen, what is the function of the muscle group that attaches here etc) 3) look over the following week’s learning objectives so you know what to hone in on when something is mentioned during lecture

This class is HARD! But many many people have done it before us, so we will all be alright too.

Anatomy friends: CSU's virtual anatomy was LIFESAVING for me when I was a vet student. I think it might cost money though (maybe not for vampy since she's a student there?), it was free when I was a student but that was a long time ago. But honestly, it's worth the money.

Other anatomy resources I've found helpful: UMN's dissection guide videos (free!), VIN has a virtual anatomy that's sort of useful (free!), and iMAIOS is another not-free one but it's fantastic. I don't know that I'd say it's necessarily worth the money for anatomy class when there are so many options out there that are free, but I use it a lot as a resident.

I haven't used CSU's resource, but I can definitely vouch for the VIN anatomy and the UMN dissection guide! Myself and some classmates used the UMN photos to make quizzes and flashcards (since we can't take photos in anatomy) and it was a life saver for the exams

we do get it for free! i’ve been using it alongside studying since we don’t have much lab time nor are we fully dissecting (long story, new curriculum..)

vetflow has also been helpful but that’s a paid subscription as well, and UMN has been great!

oof, that's news to me. I know a few schools use prosections only for anatomy for various reasons, but I'm a little disappointed that CSU has become one of them
yeah we are not dissecting tip of nose to tip of tail. we may dissect specific body systems but we’re not there yet in the curriculum. you can dm me if you’re interested in what we’re doing.

my first exam was on anatomy, physiology, pathology and radiology if that gives you any idea of what “biomedical building blocks” is

honestly, undergrad and vet school studying is like apples to oranges, and I think comparing yourself academically between the two just doesn’t work. They’re so different. the way I study in vet school is unlike anything I’ve ever done before.

I was really paranoid about vet school because I never seemed to be able to “learn how to study” in undergrad. I performed the about same all four years despite really trying to improve my grades. I was just not an “A+” undergrad student at all, which I was really trying to be for pre-vet.

Vet school has not been that experience at all. I definitely had the same experience of getting some surpisingly bad grades back, but the difference is I was able to turn things around and learn how to study. You will be SHOCKED at how quickly you can adjust. And the learning curve will get progressively less steep when it comes to figuring out what works and what doesn’t.

Stay adaptable and be willing to try new things. especially the things you think “don’t work” or didn’t like from undergrad/masters, give them another try bc those have been the sleeper hits for me in vet school lmao.

I don't usually like to talk to deeply about my personal life on the internet, but holy shirt balls has it sucked to suck this last week and I just need to let it out a bit. Going home this last weekend was not a good time and now my entire world is changing over night and I am feeling incredibly overwhelmed and I just don't quite know how I am going to get through it all. Especially since I really need to be able to change my rotations for a few blocks of my clinical year due to my new emerging situation and I was informed that it will probably take a lawyer notice to help move that mountain. I am also really scared that my life changes are going to alienate me from all friends I have managed to make just due to me having so much stuff going on. Not to mention the emotional turmoil going through me and those around me like a whirlwind.

Probably a cliche recommendation but try to open up to some of your friends instead of shutting them out. People may surprise you (hopefully in a good way). For people to be there for you, you have to let them in a little bit. And aside from those in person friends, you have lots of us here also 🙂

Wanted to talk about frustrations with lawyer #1 in this post (I have 3 separate law firms at the same time and it's all new to me and I hope you guys will agree that it's understandable for me to think this is all too much because even 1 legal battle can be soul-crushing.) I wanted to vent about why I feel like the lawyer I'm paying thousands of $$$ for keeps coming across like a completely incompetent person, and I don't know how to fix this and get this person to please stop acting inept please. And actually working against me by doing things I didn't ask and also basically working for the other side. That's what makes me have a WTF moment in my head because it's completely stupid to pay for a lawyer who appears to work for the other side and echoes their arguments even when I showed proof of the lies.

Putting this in a quote block so someone doesn't accidentally quote me, but the downside is it makes the post harder to read and I'm afraid nobody will care.

No quoting for legal reasons said:
I'm now paying for 3 separate law firms at the same time, and I'm overwhelmed beyond belief not just with legal battles but on top of my decades-long lack of access to health care (and declining health) and feeling stuck surrounded by 4 people with personality disorder-related abuse and criminality. In other words, it's not me making mountains out of molehills. It's hard for me to give myself permission to accept that.

The law firm stuff is what I wanted to focus on in this post. Can you guys actually at least literally reply and tell me that it's okay to feel overwhelmed by this? My fear is that maybe I'm just not trying hard enough and that everyone goes through this stuff, but I so badly want people to be on my side and tell me it's okay and 100% normal to be stressed by all of this. (not looking for sympathy, looking for friends who actually can be on my side, since I'm so very alone right now.)

I've talked to 3 people today about this, and all 3 told me that I'm not overreacting and that it's truly ****ty.

It's almost 3 am and I'm overwhelmed. Took 3 aspirin since my chest pains and (left shoulder radiated?) pain won't calm down. My dad-half-brother abuse stuff is one of my leading triggers for stress-induced chest pains. I asked my indigent PCP lady which chest pains are safe to ignore vs. which chest pains I should take seriously, and she gave me a CYA answer and referred me to cards. Cardiologist only met with me 5 minutes or so and I didn't feel heard and she kept repeating things and history that I never said. But I asked her and she didn't have a clear answer for which chest pains are safe to ignore. I did get nitro though but I'm too scared to take it.

Anyway, I digress.

Posting this here since I get exasperated in the Lounge when months/years go by with no answer. I've asked a few friends already and they seem to follow my reasoning and agree with me that it's 100% okay to fire my lawyer, but I wanted more feedback from friends who also care about me and might also have life experience with this.

I'll start with this short clip from Idiocracy. I embedded the timestamp in the video clip so it should start at the right spot.

It's the part where he is dragged to court over a BS crime and his own lawyer is like "Says here you robbed a hospital. Why'd you do that?" and he goes "I didn't do that. I'm not guilty!" and his dummy lawyer goes, "Well that's not what the other lawyer said (pointing to the prosecuting attorney)."

That's what I'm going through with my first lawyer. She's a senior associate attorney (so like middle of the hierarchy?) and about $400/hour that I don't have. On our initial consult she said out of the blue "Well my goal isn't to bankrupt you" but that's a weird thing to randomly say. It's the first lawyer I've ever chosen/hired in my whole life and I just want you guys to tell me it's okay to fire her and replace with someone who can be on my side. I want validation that this is okay to do since:

1) I believe everyone who has more education than me "should" be smarter than me and that isn't the case no matter how hard I try to deny my gut feelings. And I say this without malice or arrogance! I'm not better than her as a person, but she keeps saying and doing really stupid things and misunderstanding facts and I don't know how to ask her to please cut it out and drop the act.

2) I've found a lot of academic/career/personal success in life by pure grit and taking "never give up" to the extreme. So I don't want to give up on this stupid lawyer and want to spend hours correcting her misunderstandings. But even doing that, she still doesn't follow basic facts even when I make visuals and Excel spreadsheets with color-coding and a 20 minute video walking her through it visually (easier than just rambling sometimes). Even then she still is going off what my half-brother's foster brother/lawyer is saying as truth, even though I've showed her evidence that it's lies. This kind of "gaslighting" really messes with my head coming from my own lawyer. Whose side is she on? If that makes sense.

Oh, before I do that, the 3 law firms are:

1. My own lawyer (divorce/family law firm but they said they could handle estate issues) I hired maybe 3 months ago even though she's like 1000 miles away in a different state. Everything via e-mail so far and I uploaded videos and e-mails with highlights and questions.

2. I'm technically paying 1/2 of my half-brother's foster brother he grew up with (who is a lawyer). I do NOT feel like this system is fair because in my opinion an estate lawyer being paid out of the decedent's estate account (my late father) should work on behalf of the person who passed away. That helps remove any bias and treats all beneficiaries EQUALLY. But the way it's set up, my half-brother -- who I'm told by multiple psychologists and psychiatrists has traits consistent with sociopathy/psychopathy and not "just" narcissism -- can lie and steal and manipulate all he wants with my dad's assets and his lawyer/brother will legally protect his lies and his version of the facts. Even when I have all the lies recorded in e-mails and phone calls that show otherwise.

So 1 and 2 are separate law firms working "against" each other, but I'm paying thousands for my own lawyer while he gets his own brother-lawyer for free basically, only deducting from the estate account. So I'm bleeding out twice as fast if that makes sense.

3. Just last week I hired a personal injury law firm here in [my state] over a car accident this summer. Work on contingency/completely free. They only collect 1/3 of whatever I win or settle. They collect 40% if it requires a lawsuit. Either way I'm okay with this because my life is falling apart. This is on a red light runner who caused an accident when I had the green left turn arrow. 100% clear he's at fault, but I hired them because of the injuries and subrogation and I don't have health insurance and I can't move my neck and it's affecting my breathing and I'm scared of dying in my sleep. So they are helping me see some doctors and dealing with his insurance.

I met with 3 assistants/paralegals last week for THREE HOURS FOR FREE in person and lots of talking and pictures, questions, dashcam, etc. I felt heard and understood. Even without the lawyer there, I still felt like they "got" me and we were on the same team and had a gameplan and what everyone's gonna do going forward.

How come they understood me in 3 hours when in 3 months my estate lawyer REPEATEDLY misunderstands me? No matter how hard I try? And dozens of legal questions she just ghosts me on. I thought it was okay to get legal advice from your own lawyer? Please tell me I'm not stupid for thinking it's okay to ask your own paid lawyer legal questions.

She just ghosts me and doesn't reply, and the unanswered questions add up.

----------------

Here's what I'd love feedback from any pre-vettie/vettie friend who can at least say "Yes, I follow you. You're making sense." I need that actual validation so I don't continue to think I'm the dummy here.

The main issue is my dad told me he has over $500K in cash (from his own inheritance). He gave me a breakdown of checking, savings, CDs, 401k, cash on hand, etc. He also said the same over a phone call I recorded (legally).

I'm entitled to 50% of that half-million and 50% of his house and everything in it that's not already my stuff. The plan was either TOD (Transfer on Death deed) the house to me immediately (which he didn't do). Or the backup plan was I would simply buy out my half-brother's half of the house with my half of the $500K+ in cash.

Dad passes and I get a small CD. Several thousand. I e-mailed half-brother politely and say I'd love to buy the house as soon as I get the half of the cash.

Half-brother says:

1. "I don't know what you're talking about. Dad's never had that much money. You're mistaken." type things in e-mails (I have all this in writing). I reply in December 2025 but he ghosts me for 6 months which I feel is wrong and against his responsibility as an executor!

2. He then changes the story in writing and goes "Oh yeah, Dad liquidated all his CDs and transferred them to the money market account which is part of the estate account now."

(I show with my Excel spreadsheet to my lawyer that this is 100% a lie because the $100K in the estate account doesn't include $240-310K in CDs that's missing.)

But even going with lie #2, if my Dad really did liquidate the CDs, then logically they are part of the estate account, no?

3. After my lawyer contacted his lawyer/foster brother, they state the CD does exist but it's not part of probate and thus N/A and won't give me statements or details.

So the facts change yet again! So they DO confirm the CD exists but I'm just not POD on it anymore even though my Dad said I was.

I also spoke with the bank tellers and they confirmed the CD does in fact exist, so all his lies and gaslighting I can prove.

My video to my lawyer a couple months ago showed (first column is what my Dad handed me in writing with his breakdown and 2nd column is what is filed inventoried with the probate court:

* CD (POD) --> disbursed in December to me and half-brother
* 1 or more additional POD CDs --> missing anywhere from $240-310K or more not counting 2 years of interest <-- this is what is missing that I wanted my lawyer to investigate and focus on and do her lawyer magic.
* Checking --> Checking
* Savings --> Savings
* 401k --> 401k
* Money market --> Money market

Cash on hand --> not listed? -- my half-brother e-mailed me he found cash in the house "but hasn't counted it yet". My dad has thousands in cash on hand, but half-brother didn't report it to the court. I feel like this is immoral and maybe illegal. But I do have proof this cash does exist.

In other words, everything in green I already ruled out and it's all accounted for and I have zero issues with. It all adds up and transfer correctly into the estate balance. Math works.

The stuff in red is what I narrowed down for her to focus on. I tried to be super duper clear and organized with the color coding and video and spreadsheet and multiple e-mails.

What I'm confused/livid about is: my lawyer asked for my dad's checking and savings statements, and my half-brother's lawyer was happy to oblige and send her the PDFs. She then had the audacity and stupidity to spend time going through them in detail (at $400/hour I'm paying her) and it's just my dad's normal life stuff. Groceries, utilities, etc.

She then replied a couple months ago, "I didn't see anything fishy in those statements. Have a look." and I'm sitting her thinking to myself like "Why the **** did you ask for them when there's no issue? Spend your efforts investigating the CD that is $240-310,000 which is a crap ton of currency!"

But to correct her she'll just bill me 30-60 minutes reading my e-mails. Plus her assistant also bills me for organizing my e-mails into my client account. The assistant is $110/hour.

Why should I have to spend thousands of $$$ to get her on the same page when she constantly just does whatever? Is it reasonable for me to lose faith in her and think "What's the point? Waste of time and money"???

She meets every couple weeks or as needed with her boss -- one of the law firm's partners -- just to go over my case or to ask him for advice. He's $500/hour.

So if they meet for 30 minutes to talk about me, I have to pay for both of them at the same time. That's $400 (her) + $500 (him) = $900 for an hour. Or $450 for their 30 minute meeting. Then $110/hour for the assistant to organize their notes.

Can you guys please throw me a bone that I'm being unbelievably patient and it's okay to fire her without being the bad guy? It's not personal but I have $0 income and I'm desperate and scared and my half-brother has a life-long history of attempted murder, fighting, violence since he was a kid. Actual sociopath/psychopath material. He brags to me about his ability to manipulate people to get what he wants. I have that recorded and WILL show it to the court to demonstrate his character and I have most of his lies and outbursts recorded.

1. Is it okay with you guys to find a better lawyer, or should I "never give up"?
2. Do you guys agree with me about the lie that keeps changing being really suspicious in a Wolfy way? From "I don't know what you're talking about $500K. Dad never had that much money. You're mistaken." to "Well Dad liquidated the CDs into the estate account I opened." to "Well the CDs do exist but we won't tell you any information about them so nyeah!"

Can you please agree with me that it's very wolfy? And that because it's so much money that my Dad promised that it's normal for anyone to be confused that it's "missing" and it's some big secret? Why not tell the truth and be transparent?

Some psych people I talked to said to be careful because "he is telling you what he is doing or plans to do. If he accuses you of something, it's what he is doing" in other words, my half-brother has:

1. When I asked about my dad's phone and laptop so I can preserve his files and photos forever like my Dad wanted, half-brother rages and flips out "YOU JUST WANT DAD'S PHONE TO BREAK INTO HIS BANK ACCOUNTS TO STEAL ALL HIS MONEY!" Paranoia and projection are both something that ASPDs (sociopaths and psychopaths) have.

2. When I drove 1000 miles to see my dying dad and also clean his house and to also get my stuff out, he went "NOPE YOU'RE NOT GETTING IN THE HOUSE BUDDY. DAD'S FINAL WORDS BEFORE HE DIED WERE THAT YOU WERE GONNA BREAK INTO THE HOUSE, STEAL EVERYTHING, AND CHANGE THE LOCKS. HAHA HAHA YOU'RE NOT GETTING IN THERE BUDDY, I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE PLANNING. I GOT CAMERAS EVERYWHERE BUDDY." I'm not exaggerating with his unhinged and sinister and aggressive he was talking. Serial killer vibes. But it's the same paranoia and projection again. My father was an abusive NPD monster who was sometimes paranoid, but I can't imagine him saying those things on his deathbed.

3. When I asked about if dad's death certificate was done being processed by the State/County on the phone when I was about to meet him in person again the next day. He went, "There's no ****ing reason you need the death certificate. WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING, HUH? ARE YOU GONNA USE THE DEATH CERTIFICATE TO STEAL ALL OF DAD'S MONEY???? LISTEN HERE YOU LITTLE ****. HERE'S WHAT I'M GONNA DO. I'M GONNA FORCE THE SALE OF THE HOUSE--" and that's when my self-help kicked in and I hung up on him since it was futile getting a word in.

Do you guys see what I mean? He has repeatedly brought up me stealing all dad's money out of nowhere, and multiple therapists have told me to be careful that his accusations could actually be confessions, because narcissists, sociopaths, and psychopaths' brains work like that. I've also just asked random regular people, and they went "Yeah, bad people tend to think that everyone else around them is up to bad things too and think like them, so they project who they are onto others. Good people also project their good traits onto other people, which isn't always accurate either."

My point is: he is an unhinged, emotionally and mentally unstable person with a history of violence since he was a little kid, including when he was 12-13 trying to murder me when I was a baby, leading to my Dad choking him and him running away from home. These are facts. Not me being dramatic. I can prove everything with recordings or e-mails. He is PROUD of his ability to manipulate people to get what he wants. He is superior to everyone around him and talks down to everyone, including doctors. He knows everything.

NPD at the least, but I'm told by PhDs that he likely has ASPD with all his violence and zero remorse, empathy.

@ Caia asked me maybe in 2025 why I'm even dealing with this but I never made time to reply to her. But after struggling for 10 years now with ZERO access to health care and my health getting worse, getting 1/2 of the $500K or more + 1/2 the house is life changing money. Even more: It's life saving money since I do NOT have access to the health care (and specialists) I need to get better, and I've tried for years and years and years. And I've documented that in the Lounge but get dismissed a lot as if it's my fault. I think people who have never had life and health kick their butt take health care for granted, especially if they live in a state or province or country that's not 3rd world.

So not only can this money be used to see doctors and get back on my feet, but it'll pay off all my student loans and then I can get married and know what it feels like to be a good husband and father. And it'll pay for the wedding and moving expenses and grad school and... I'm on the pathway to an early death (that sounds dramatic) since I'm getting nowhere with health care. So that's why I'm not willing to roll over to a bully.

My half-brother ghosted my dad and the family for like... 30+ years and mysteriously came back when my Dad was old and got cancer, and the timing feels... suspicious and wolfy. He became the "golden child" and my dad's bestie and I've seen them talk in person and it feels fake. My dad eats it up because he is so desperate to have his first son be in his life perhaps. But then my half-brother tells my Dad lies about me behing my back, and my Dad calls me angry as hell at what I said (that I didn't say), and I have to play defense.

So a part of me wonders if my half-brother tricked my Dad to write me out of his will. It's either that or he forged my dad's signature OR he used his Power of Attorney and signed his own name when my dad became unconscious. Because why would he lie so aggressively about this one topic as well as randomly become enraged and paranoid of me stealing Dad's money? I'm taking professional psych advice seriously and considering the possibility that he has somehow taken a huge chunk of money and just didn't realize that Dad told me all about it before he died. Because why lie so much about this CD not existing, then say it does exist but it's all good and part of the estate, then lie again and say it exists but since it's POD that it's outside of the probate court? (Duh, I know how POD and TOD works). I feel like a reasonable and prudent person would also be confused and also question all the lies, no? And accusations of me stealing all the money. I've also read that rage is one of the wolfy "tells" when someone is lying or manipulating. Because from December 2025 to May 2026 he ghosted me, but when I e-mailed him again at the end of May about the $500K, he lost his everloving **** in e-mail for a 2-day period of rage e-mails. Thank God it's in writing. Can you guys at least please reply to this specifically (no quoting) and say you follow my reasoning? Especially if you have experience with liars.

I'm so grateful for y'all's time. My gut is wanting to replace my first lawyer, but I wanted you guys to at least tell me that it's okay to do that and it's the smart thing to do. I want to be believed when I say she keeps acting really out of her element, and it really confuses me since lawyers are educated and supposed to be super smart and aggressive. It's just super damaging when she echoes the lies of the other side and it makes me go "WTF" in my head.

I replied yesterday as professionally as possible but sort of thought out loud about me hopping on a flight to meet with her face to face just so she would stop misunderstanding me so we can be a team and be on the same page. But it may just be wiser to change lawyers even if that hurts her feelings.

If this is too long of a post, I'll happily PayPal people like $5 or something just to read through all that. I have no income/savings but I'm desperate for more feedback that I'm doing the right thing and that not all lawyers are created equal. I can also freely consult my time on a few things too instead of paying $$$.

Got fired from my vet assistant job last week. There have been a lot of negative changes in the last few months, but they fired me for bs reasons (including me challenging the stupid changes they've made). I'm really embarrassed and mad and I just feel like I can't catch a break. I'm also really sad about not working with the vets anymore. I really loved most of them and they really helped me learn a lot.

The main upside was that it gave me four days straight to finish my vet apps, though, so I've been less stressed about that!

@vampyrica I’m sure you’re disappointed, but things will be okay. You’re doing a new, very hard thing for the first time. And with a new curriculum to boot and make things even more difficult. Make some changes, get some help from available resources, and try some new study techniques. I almost failed out of first year too because of physiology and made it through by the skin of my teeth (literally passed by like 0.5%). It doesn’t mean anything about you as a person, and I have full faith you can do it next time!

Also @Stroganoff I don’t have any personal experience with a similar situation, but I agree that finding a new lawyer is reasonable if you’re not on the same page. Even if it’s just because of a personality clash it would be reasonable. You’ll spend some money getting a new team up to speed, but that’s probably better than feeling like you’re ‘wasting’ it on the current team.

If I remember correctly you’re getting assessed for ADHD soon, yes? It can make a huge difference to get the appropriate accommodations +\- medications. Everyone struggles with vet school, but you’ve got it extra hard if you’re trying to do it without controlling for the adhd processing differences. You’re really smart, just as smart as your classmates, and this one setback doesn’t have to be the end. :cares:

my assessment is next week but she told me i dont even have to take it because i fit the full criteria for ADHD, but if it would make me feel more comfortable, we can still do it. she called me after i frantically emailed her about my anxiety and just like ful blown melt down and she sent in a script for me to try, so let's see how this goes

(Let me know if you don't want me quoting this btw! I'll delete the quote.)

I'm really sorry you went through this. You're not alone and please try to not necessarily internalize or take that BS personally, even if it's still a significant "Aaaaa!" or "WTF" moment with strong emotions. I've had a ton of entry level jobs and many of them are... dramatic **** shows but I was too desperate for the minimum or other low wage that I dealt with a lot of BS.

But yeah, challenging stupid changes messes with egos, retaliation and power games sometimes do their thing, blah blah.

Just sending good, happy energy and know that you're not alone. 💪

Fire the 1st lawyer and hire an estate/probate lawyer who knows what they're doing. You aren't crazy, you just need an actual expert to help you.

Thank you for this! It's still on the table, but she replied to my e-mail frustrations today with some [legal strategy things] and inside I'm thinking to myself "Friggin finally! That's what I've wanted this whole time!" So lots of typing tonight and gathering evidence and quotes and proof of lies so she can do her thing.

So can't replace this lawyer at the moment since I want this [thing] to happen to get us more information.

Probably a cliche recommendation but try to open up to some of your friends instead of shutting them out. People may surprise you (hopefully in a good way). For people to be there for you, you have to let them in a little bit. And aside from those in person friends, you have lots of us here also 🙂

They do know what is going on. It's more of a fear of the continuing nature of my situation will start to wear on people after a point. Because it isn't a one and done, it's a change to my entire life. But I do know that is me projecting my fears out there and so far they have been supportive and understanding. I also have been having to talk to a lot more people (outside my friend group) than I normally do about very personal things and it is making me feel incredibly vulnerable when I would love nothing more than to pretend everything is fine.

you know what would be nice? If my boyfriend panicked the same way I do about the future.

He’s in law school it’s chill, but he’s not sure what law he wants to practice, and keeps saying he’ll just go work for his dad. I’ve made it clear multiple times that there are no equine jobs near his hometown. Unless I’m solo practicing which if I do, I should do an internship. That’s not my first choice career wise

Plus I’m not sold on an internship, when there’s racing jobs open in Kentucky. So I’m very conflicted about where to live and such, and he’s being no help.

I know I should just do whatever I want, but a major part of me is anxious about it because I do want to be married to him in the future.

Took the VEA today despite being sick as a dog. 240 questions took less than 2 hrs and I didn’t even have the wherewithal to go back and reread the questions and my answers on the second half like I tried to on my first. Feeling incredibly stressed that pharmacology and bacteria/parasites was soooo much of it because that’s the stuff I’m worst at. I’ve always been stressed about the NAVLE but now I feel like I’m never going to pass. I test horribly and am much better with clients and hands on application.

I know the answer is I have plenty of time to study, I’m not supposed to know everything yet, everyone has their weaknesses blah blah blah. Sick brain just doesn’t have the processing power to also emotionally regulate.

Speaking from experience with both an ex-boyfriend who I was with for a long time and didn't know what he wanted in life and my husband (different person), who is very ambitious in his own career and also very supportive of mine, I'm sorry for the situation you're in, but also this sounds like a serious conversation is warranted.

I am not someone who's like "just trash the relationship and do what's best for you", because I'm a firm believer that having solid relationships is just as critical for happiness as a job. But also, you've worked very hard to be where you are and vet med will continue to be a very consuming career. It's not just a job you walk away from and stop thinking about at 5pm for most people. Life is give and take, and sometimes we have to compromise, but if marriage is the end goal, you definitely want to be with someone that has ambitions and supports yours too.

I agree that it's worth a serious sit down over. You plan to move OOS, he plans to go back home. There's nothing wrong with either plan at all, they just aren't compatible. You either find a compromise or someone yields to the other entirely. If neither of you are willing to budge, you're at an impasse unfortunately. it sucks but both of you deserve to feel happy/fulfilled. I also agree that one needs that feeling in both career and personal life. The latter holds more weight for me generally, but being reasonably happy in your job really does matter for QOL

We definitely are planning to have a conversation. It’s just hard when you’re the only one panicking because your end date of school is approaching faster than his.

day 1 on new meds update: are you telling me...there are people out there who do not have racing thoughts at all hours of the day...and that your brain can actually...be quiet?....😵😵😵😵

It comes in waves for me depending on how much caffeine, lack of sleep I’ve had and pressures / expectations on myself LOL it fluctuates throughout the day. I am not on medication though

i normally crash by 1/2pm, and the rest of the day just sounds like charlie brown's teacher. today was so crazy different???? my primary concern was blocking out the noise i experience quite literally 24/7 (mind races from the moment i wake up, to the moment i go to sleep) and it leaves me so mentally exhausted. i didnt even have caffeine today because i was scared of combining it with the new medicine, and i was productive and getting things done with no nap from 10-10.

maybe this is just day one, or placebo but i may actually have a shot here!

Sounds wonderful 🙂 I hope it continues to have a positive effect 🙏🏼

@vampyrica does your new curriculum have an academic mentor/ coach program! We can make appointments to be coached on learning strategies, and it was super helpful! I’m so sorry your first exam was rough and so excited that you’re getting help! (PS I LOVE psychiatric medication it’s so so good)

we have built-in coaching into the curriculum, we only meet once a semester and it's less for academics and more for wellbeing. because we're on a new curriculum, we currently dont have many tutoring options available (we're learning things now that 2nd years will be learning in the spring, so it's very flip-flopped around).

i may ask to meet with the curriculum coordinator as well as they said they were our best POC for study tips and questions. but im also meeting student services folks to get more support

New curriculum sounds hard too. We’re using PBL cases from the 90s😂

it's like pseudo-flipped classroom. we do pre-work which is doing a basic overview of the content at home, then the next day in class we go in more detail, and then after class we have post-work activities and assignments to reinforce our learning. i honestly really like it, but there's just so much information!

Okay my own rant. My stomach issues have gotten to the point where I basically have to go home, cancel everything, and lie down if I eat ANYTHING. Tuesday and yesterday I fasted all day and felt the best I’ve felt in months, despite being really hungry. Today I attempted raspberries and a protein shake and now I have to be horizontal for the rest of the evening. It’s so sad cause I love eating and the raspberries were really good.

have you been tested for allergies or food intolerances? do you take any medication? i've been on the same medicine for the past 4-5 years, and it will still cause me stomach upset if i do not follow my routine closely. tummy issues suck :c im sorry you're doing through this.

(it may be worth speaking with a gastroenterologist to make sure everything is going okay internally)

I'm seeing a gastroenterologist in October for an endoscopy. They're very weird symptoms and no medication helps and my PCP could't figure it out. and I'm sick of it. I had to cancel tutoring on Sunday and Monday and had to leave class to throw up on Monday. ugh.

I don't know if this will be true for you, but I spontaneously got similar symptoms just before summer started about a decade ago. They eventually diagnosed me with stomach neuropathy. I'm on daily medication now and it has returned me to being able to eat and participate in life.
