i was under the impression that BRS path is the best pathology book to get...however, from recent posts on this forum it seems like many have found RR to be the way to go...i just finished our core pathology course and will be starting organ systems in a month....i'd like to get BRS or RR to use along with the class as well as for step 1....i will also use the goljan audio/notes...which book should i get and can anyone list the pros/cons? from reading amazon.com it seems like goljan is almost twice as long as BRS...what gives?

I am currently using both.

BRS is good because it is pretty detailed in explaining the different diseases that are important. Plus the quizzes at the end of each chapter are great for pre-test prep. However, there are no pictures in the actual text and the pictures in the quizzes are of poor quality

Rapid Review is excellent in that it provides very clear color pictures (the new edition, at least) and is in a very handy outline format. It's pictures and a wider font type account for its longness (BRS is in small type and the words are pretty close together) However, I don't think it has the breadth of information that BRS has. How much info you actually need for your class or for boards though will dictate if it has just the right amount of info.

Also, RR seems to follow along with Goljan's lectures pretty well. There isn't a point he has made in his lectures so far that hasn't ended up in the RR Path....but I am only on chapter 2 right now so that might change. Saying that, his high yield notes might be superfluous in those regards.
